This is a super helpful video. Your flathead lure suggestions were great (and worked), so when I decided I'd go chase tailor I looked to see if you had a video on that too. Can't wait for my first session tomorrow :D Thanks muchly
@@ks1179 I usually do well at blacksmiths...I don't mind giving up the locations. You need to walk the beach and find the fish though it's not all plain sailing. Time of day for tailor is crucial. Dawn and dusk are best and if that coincides with a high tide turn even better.
I had a go today but my rods are super heavy! Older style beach rods. (Had the right lures, but the wrong rod). I am going to buy a seabass as I like daiwa, do you find the 10'6 is much heavier to hold all day? I.e. if you were targetting Tailor and could only have one rod, would you recommend the 8'6 or the 10'6 do you think? Thanks so much for all the help!
Great video. I'm going to use your advice and do my best to catch some tailor over here in Perth. I've found it's quite difficult fishing in the evenings because of the strong SW prevailing winds. I guess I'm going to have to set the alarm clock and brew some coffee. I'll try walking the beach while keeping an eye out for schools which should be visible as the light comes from behind in the mornings over here.
Hey Ryan, don't stress too much about looking for the schools, quite often, the fish are very active under the water with no sign of it on the surface...
Hi Stephen, the black/silver works well in bright sunlight. Pink/white works well on change of light. White/glow works well on change of light as well, and works the best after dark.
This just come up in my suggestions, any title with the words spinning and tailor instantly get a click from me, its my favourite thing to do and I am always open to improving my technique
Regarding the second part of the question, the action of the lure is more important than the colour, but both aspects work in unison, so if the action is realistic and the colour either resembles a known food source (silver/black=bait fish) or white/glow = can be easily seen due to contrast against the dark water....that is the theory
Thanks for the reply, I normally use Halco twisty or Savage gear missile lures in sardine colours and at night put a glow light about a foot in front of the lure with some success, I will try the Iron candy glow this week coming. Hi Alluring Fishing Thanks for this report and all the information you have put into your videos. They are really really helpful. Can I please ask your opinion re the 86ML vs 96ML rods. I have a 3000 size real that I would like to use to spin for Taylor and salmon. I like the idea of the 86ML being super light and easy but I'm wondering if there would be any gain going up a size to the 96ML. Do you find the 86ML's casting distance is at all limited by size or lure weight? And which of your two rods (8'6 or 10'6) do you find you use the most? Many thanks in advance for your time and advice. Cheers Matt
Hi Matt, Great questions. More recently I found the 9ft6 at Freddie's (BCF have never stocked the 9ft6), so I tried one paired to the stradic 5000. I would have to say that this is most probably going to be my favorite combo (although I haven't had much time to fish this year at all, so I still need to use it more to confirm that), but it does have more casting distance than the 8ft6 and almost the power of the 10ft6, and it's much lighter than the 10ft6. However because you have a 3000 reel, that would be better matched to the 8ft6. So in summary the 9ft6/5000 would be the way to go. I guess I need to do a video on all this. 😁

If you got iron candy glows at half price, you did well. I would have stocked up. Do they have any more...which store is it?

Tackle HQ is not far away I will go and have a look later next week after fishing with the ones I have. Will let you know how I go with the Iron candy lures. Cheers
Hi, do you tie the lures onto the line directly or use a snap swivel. A snap allows you to change lures quickly, not sure if it effects the lure action. Interested in what you use, does it make any difference? I actually use a snap without the swivel. Cheers.
Hi Duro. Only lures. I am also getting into live baiting, using sliders with live tailor that I have caught on lures but I'm still new to it, so still learning...
Hi Stephen, Yes you are 100% correct, the Spanyid 40 weighs just 31g with the single hook and swivel as used in the video. I would love to know what the manufacturer says about that! Thanks for pointing this out. Would you like me to make a video where I put the lure on a scale to show what you have mentioned?
@@AlluringFishing There is a video by TNT fishing Australia that shows this, it is only the 40 gram that's is the problem. I saw this video when checking the internet for similar issues. Cheers

Thank you so much for the video. Just have a question on the reel. I have the Shimano Sustain 5000XG and the Shimano Stradic FK 5000. Will either of these reel work on the Seabass rod ? Thanks. What type of lines and weight do you use? Thanks once again.
Yes, either of your shimano 5000 size reels would suit the seabass rod, though I would recommend the 10ft6 seabass for a 5000 size reel. If you want a really light rig use a 4000 size shimano reel on the 8ft6 seabass. On both of these setups, I would use a main line of 10lb power pro braid on the moss green colour and 20lb mono leader with an FG knot between mono and leader.
Help! How can I catch tailor in the estuary? I have tried so many metals (Halco twisties, palms minidax, guillies baitfish). Slow retrieve, medium retrieve, fast retrieve and jigging. Only had abit of success jigging. Any tips? I see them busting up during sunset but just cannot catch them 😡😤
Interesting 🤔 its difficult to say without observing your technique, however my best guess is youre retrieval speed, as hungry tailor chase shiny things and are incredibly easy to catch on lures. Are you sure they are tailor busting up? Are other people catching them? Where abouts are you located?
Hi Vasili, thanks for watching, hope you get a good Tailor off the beach. I use mustad Kaiju offset hooks size 2/0 or 3/0. Swivel is black magic, not sure on the size but it would be medium. If i find the size I will post it later . Cheers

@@VasK2016 Thanks for your interest. I use an 8ft 6 (3-6kg) or 10ft 6 daiwa seabass rod. 10lb power pro braid with 20lb black magic leader with an FG knot between the braid and leader. The best colours for the iron candy are glow (dawn & dusk) and silver flash (sunlight). The tailor are very active on the NSW beaches right now up until april/may. Tight lines..
Hi David. I only use clips. Prefer those with swivels. Fish don't really study the knot...I'm pretty sure of that. I got a box of clips off ebay for $5 - all different sizes. Don't waste your time tying knots, whenever you have a spinning session you have to change lures quite a lot sometimes before you isolate the lure that works best for the conditions on the day.
Hey mate, I was just wondering how you cast heavy lures further away. I'm always scared my rod or line will snap if I try to use too much momentum from the weight of the lure and I always end up chucking high and not forward, especially with a lure with a weight that is the max lure weight on my rod. thanks
Hey Terry, thanks for asking. If you take the example of a 8 ft 6 seabass which I think is rated to 28g, using a 28g lure, 10lb braid and 20lb leader, the line should never snap. You should be able to use the rod exactly as it was designed I.E. as a catapult, the correct action would be similar to a whip, your rod will make a distinctive whipping sound when you get it just right. If you have to lob it (which is what it sounds like your describing) either the lure is too heavy or rod tip is too flexible. If line snaps when casting, that's usually dueto a wind knot or a badly spooled reel, any resistance on the line feeding out will snap 10lb line quite easily, even if the line gets fouled on the guides during the cast. Casting a lure should also never snap your rod, unless you hit something during the cast action....hope this helps and thanks for watching the videos.
Hi Adam. I haven't tried the 11 ft. I think the main things to think about are; can you cast with the setup for a prolonged period of time without getting too tired and then how does the rod cast the lure...does it flick it or do you have to lob it... The only way to know for sure would really be to test it unfortunately
Thanks for the reply. I might go for the seajigger, I think they will go on clearance soon as the new range is about to be released. The 10’6 8kg model can cast up to 60g which is quite good.
@@adamhatton7579 Just be cautious of the sea jigger, I had one of those and although its rated for a 60g lure, it was way too weak to even flick a 40g lure. I took it back to BCF and they very kindly swapped it for my first seabass....which was just right. If you have a practice flick with each in the store you will see what I mean. I think the sea jigger would be a great rod for whiting off the beach (with bait) or for flicking light diving lures off a rockwall though...
Hey mate, in your video your 10foot 6 rod says a lure weight of 10-40g but you paired it up with a 47g lure? How does the rod hold up when you do this?
I would suggest to get them from South Africa from Basil Manning in Durban or Mia's in Woodmead. I can get some for you if you want. if enough people want, I will get some sent over to Australia. Side project :-)
Hi. I generally don't keep any fish. I Just take a photo and put them back unless they're badly injured in which case I just put them in a plastic packet that I carry with me in a pocket and then give away to whoever wants them.
@@shorteeayy i take a soft cloth, soak it in warm water and wipe the rod and reel down gently after each use, making sure that I clean all the salt off the guides. Then I use a daiwa reel oiler that I got from anaconda to oil all the points on the reel, like the bail arm bearings, line roller bearings and all bearings and joints on the crank arm and all the exposed screws....
Hi Sean, I bought it from BCF, but they dont seem to stock them anymore. You can buy similar vests on Ebay though for about $40. I think it's intended for fly fishing
It all depends on the weight rating of the rod. If it's designed for flicking lures with a lure weight of 20g to 40g that should be fine. Daiwa have a 12ft crossfire rod priced around $80 that can be used with the lures in the video, however, for extended periods of spinning a 8ft to 10ft rod will be less tiring than a 12ft.

Hi Peter. I use snap clips. They're in the other video I did on tailor. They're available on eBay from China.
Great videos, just wondering if you ever use pilchards or only lures ?
Hi Duro. Only lures. I am also getting into live baiting, using sliders with live tailor that I have caught on lures but I'm still new to it, so still learning...
Hey Stephen, that's a really interesting comment. I will go and weigh one and let you know what I find.
Cheers
Great video mate. Thanks for sharing you hard earned knowledge. Have you ever tried the Busted 45s. I have heard a lot of good things?
Hey Glenn, thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked the video. II have a few new videos lined up, just need to find the time....pretty busy right now. I haven't heard of the busted 45s so will certainly have a look at those.
@@AlluringFishing they are made by a bloke in Carrum downs I'm Melbourne. Picked a few up the other day and they look good.
@@glennvandenberg3912 sounds like a plan...I would love to take one for a spin😉...do you have a website or contact details for them?
Thanks the informative tips.
Dude! Epic vid. Thanks
You're most welcome
Hi Stephen, do you get good results at night with lures. Is it essential to use fluro lures at night.
Who is Stephen? Yes, night fishing with lures is very productive, and flouro do seem to have an advantage
Very useful video. Could you please tell what size of single hooks and swivels do you use? Are they from bcf or from anaconda? Thanks.
Hi Vasili, thanks for watching, hope you get a good Tailor off the beach. I use mustad Kaiju offset hooks size 2/0 or 3/0. Swivel is black magic, not sure on the size but it would be medium. If i find the size I will post it later . Cheers
Alluring Fishing Thanks a lot. You are really helping others to avoid wasting money for useless fishing gear.👍
@@VasK2016 thank you. Yes, I bought a lot of useless fishing gear too, to get to this point. At least 60% of the lures I bought to date never caught a fish....
@@AlluringFishing I just ordered a couple of Iron Candies, going to fish some tailor soon. Could you please tell what thickness of braid and leader do you use for 47g set up? Thanks.
In the peel estuary ive trolled through the water and caught heaps
Hi, getting into lures and I am wondering if
I should get quick change lure clips. If it is tying knots all the time don’t you run out of leader?
I can buy lures too but didn’t see you catch a fish?
Lekke Stephan, very informative
Thank you
Hey mate, I was just wondering how you cast heavy lures further away.
@@AlluringFishing ahh okay thank you so much for replying :) your videos are great ! haha
Hi is it necessary to use a swivel on your leader? Or can you just attach straight with a clip?
Swivel reduces line twist, highly recommended
What are you your thoughts on the 11 ft medium model of sea bass? Too heavy? Ive got a 5000 twin power and I’m looking to get a heavier tailor set up.
Hi Terry. The 10ft 6 seabass casts the 47g lure just fine. In fact the 8ft 6 seabass casts the 47g lure fine as well.
@@AlluringFishing ahhh i see. cheers for the reply appreciate it
What are some alternatives to the iron candy that you could recommend now they aren’t for sale any more ?
I would suggest to get them from South Africa from Basil Manning in Durban or Mia's in Woodmead. I can get some for you if you want. if enough people want, I will get some sent over to Australia. Side project :-)
What size hook do you use?
hey mate, looking to buy that vest to fish at the beach, where/how do you store the fish you catch while you fish?
Hi. I generally don't keep any fish. I Just take a photo and put them back unless they're badly injured in which case I just put them in a plastic packet that I carry with me in a pocket and then give away to whoever wants them.
@@AlluringFishing okay thanks for the quick reply.
and how do u keep u your rod and reel clean after a day on the beach?
@@shorteeayy i take a soft cloth, soak it in warm water and wipe the rod and reel down gently after each use, making sure that I clean all the salt off the guides. Then I use a daiwa reel oiler that I got from anaconda to oil all the points on the reel, like the bail arm bearings, line roller bearings and all bearings and joints on the crank arm and all the exposed screws....
Hi was wondering if you can tell me where I can get that vest
Hi Sean, I bought it from BCF, but they dont seem to stock them anymore. You can buy similar vests on Ebay though for about $40. I think it's intended for fly fishing
Is 12 ft rod alright to use for those lures?
It all depends on the weight rating of the rod. If it's designed for flicking lures with a lure weight of 20g to 40g that should be fine. Daiwa have a 12ft crossfire rod priced around $80 that can be used with the lures in the video, however, for extended periods of spinning a 8ft to 10ft rod will be less tiring than a 12ft.
where did you buy your lures?>
Lots of places...tackle hq, anaconda, BCF, eBay, tackle world....all over really
