Tried Anthem to up grade from Emotiva XMC-1, I owned the previous AVM 60 but sold it.
Used with Monitor Audio spkrs, it was too bright, not a natural sound.
Ran ARC multiple times, changing mic positions slightly but it was still too bright and came to the conclusion the AKM dac was not a match for M.A. spkrs or they design it to be clinically flat with no warmth at all. Even adjusting the treble negative (-) dbs didn't help with the harshness.
If you have very warm (rolled off high frequency) speakers or like "in your face sound" Anthem is for you

I run two AVM70’s in two different systems with zero problems.

There is plenty of complaints about its software on the AVS Forum. Guess you got lucky. It hung on me several times while setting up ARC. Sometimes there is no sound from the center channel.

I have the AVM 90 and I get what you’re saying - I found it to be finicky and difficult to get set up to hear amazing sound - but I finally did after months of working with it. My personal BKM was to also use a miniDSP so I could get that low end punch in my movies. I ran 5 microphone positions in ARC in an X top down pattern with MLP in center at ear height and then the front two about 1-2 ft forward and 6 in lower than MLP and the back two positions 1-2 ft back and 6in higher than MLP. My room I think is acoustically bad and is a functional living room so my settings are maxed out in about every way in ARC (I think I lose a lot of bass in the room by its nature so to get it back..) and have the bass shelf setting at 10 and then in ARC a bit of a house curve at 700 start with a -4dB slope downward from there. It sounds fantastic now. Full rich bass, not boomy, very even, super clear dialogue. I did set up a +10db (85 dB) increase at 20-30Hz in the miniDSP and then sloped it down to 75 dB at 100 Hz and have my dual subs treated as a single virtual sub by the AVM 90. I don’t let ARC adjust the bass below 80 Hz to preserve the miniDSP settings. My only gripes now are audio can be a little slow to play / be picked up by the AVM 90 and the fan noise does bug me some. I don’t always notice it but no other AVR I’ve ever had was as noisy with their internal fans. It’s livable and 80% of the time I never hear it running though.

" My only gripes now are audio can be a little slow to play / be picked up by the AVM 90"
I just got an 1140 and if I rewind/forward in Plex then it takes 2-3s after the video resumes to hear the audio! Likewise playing music on Plex (misses the first second of every track) - admittedly Plex isn't my preferred music app

@@andrewlee7228 I know, it’s annoying. My AVM 90 is that way too. A full 3-4 seconds before audio starts playing from my Panasonic 4K player when you first start a movie. Sometimes it even gets confused between the default audio I selected for all channel or stereo when I manually have changed it to say Dolby Surround instead of DTS Neural:X and my subwoofers and speakers start popping like someone is jiggling the input to a loudspeaker and it scares the crap out of both me and my pets.

I was not aware there were fans in the avm70 ? I knew they have fans in the mrx540 since it has amplifiers inside, but I never expected them in their processors ?

For the price point, I have heard lot of issues where this falls short or issues that just should not be the case for this level of processor

I have the AVM70 since they released it, no issues at all. You have to know how to calibrate with ARC. There are plenty of youtube tutorials, from several power users. I am still waiting for the HDMI 2.1 upgrade. I use it with NAD m28 for LCR and main level effects speakers and emotiva basx 7 for atmos speakers. Base is serve by 2 REL T9X. Your not lukey with Amthem.
I had for several years a pre/pro 80.2 INTEGRA, had to replace the HDMI board after a year and a year later it had blowned my 7 ch amp w4S mc7150. I had to have the amp repaired twice by W4S. Plus It cost me because no resell value for both pre and amp. I still use the remote from the 80.2.

I heard Integra has been bad for many people. My integra is like a rock. If it had ATMOS I would have still kept it. It does not have switching delays like the Trinnov or will not lose the center channel like the AVM70. Input selection is a single click. If Athem had PEQ which we can manually adjust, I would have probably kept it.

you had AVM 70 or AVM 70 8k? Maybe 8k version is better?

I ended up getting a Trinnov altitude 16. It has it’s own quirks like slow startup and missing audio for a few seconds but at least it works.

Will you be doing a review on the Trinnov Alt 16? I would love to hear your thoughts on AVM70 vs Alt 16. I own both and agree both have their quirks.

With AVM70, I was not able to tune it with ARC. Trinnov, I ran sound setup once and haven't touched it since. The bootup time and missing audio for few seconds during track change is a negative. I prefer the Trinnov over the AVM70. I wish I had tried Lyngdorf.

Don't buy this POS! I will never purchase anything from Anthem again. The unit is out of warranty and HDMI randomly stops supporting EARC. Never have unplugged the unit or anything. What a PO!

The more functions you want in a reciever the more that can go wrong you have to expect it or if your lucky you get one that is functioning correctly all these surround sound stuff its all junk you only have two ears think about it. I have a 9.2 ch reciever and only use the front three channels i found its sounds more accurate than all this crap around and around .
