A fun fact is that Chiang Kai-shek had a good relationship with Nazi Germany until 1939, and the Nazi Germany sent military advisors to advise Chiang and supplied arms to his nationalist army. Chiang's adopted son, Chiang Wei-kuo, actually served in the German army until 1939.

Then on 17-th of September Red Army invaded Poland from the east. That's how Stalin avoided fighting 2 fronts simultaneously. But this delay was the cause of signing a new treaty between Third Reich and USSR on 28-th of September, which changed their new border in Poland. Awesome video. At 13:45 the invasions of Denmark and Norway are covered, followed by the May 10 invasion in the West including the Netherlands. These three invasions impacted the Pacific war significantly: Denmark, Norway, and the Netherlands were major commercial ocean shippers (still are: Maersk, for example). Once Germany invaded, all these countries' shippers stopped carrying for Japan. These shipping embargoes, which Japan did not anticipate or plan for, greatly strained Japanese logistics as suddenly Japan, resource poor and engaged in major continental war, had to do a lot more of its own carrying and critically lacked enough shipping to do so.
