      I have an old sony camcorder with the little tapes. I’ve started looking for a new one that I can copy videos onto my laptop. So far I’ve had to send them to a video service company and get them converted to mp4 format so I can copy them. Had old reel to reel home movies that were copied to a dvd (not mp4) & then the reel to reels were destroyed in a flood. So now I’m worried about any losing videos of family that have passed away. But it costs so much to get them converted. It adds up.Since it sounds like you have this camcorder, my question is would this be a good camcorder to film home movies and transfer onto the windows 8.1 laptop? Yes I keep things until they die. My mother is 87 and has cancer and I would like to start reordering her answering questions about her and her parents’ lives. Maybe attach an external microphone so we can hear her better and stand it on a tripod to keep it still. So many old home movies that my grandmother took in the 60s moved so much it made me sea sick 🤪 Sorry to ramble on but there is no one to give true recommendations like taking a used car somewhere to get a non biased opinion before you buy. Thank so much.

    I enjoyed your review - it's hysterical. I don't do streaming. I do professional video, and I usually use a Panasonic GH5. I've used the camera for over 8 years for filming things that I know I need something quick and automatic for. (Some documentary materials etc.) But I just want to update. You can buy chargers for the batteries. I've never charged using the AC cord. The camera has a WB setting (not very professional but it's something) and if it's not on a tripod it actually stays fairly stable without a gimble. But again - I don't use it for streaming so I can understand your frustration. The one problem with the camera is that at this point (after 8 years of usage) it has developed a problem in which after about a minute of filming a black screen appears on the monitor and tells you "Error occurred. Please Turn Unit Off and Then Turn On Again". Extremely frustrating. Is it fixable? I don't know... I decided to forget trying to fix it and buy something new... But that is a real downer...

    Well, I went out and I acquired a second V770. Just a quick note for those using it. If you select the MP4 record mode, you can quickly import and edit in iMovie. On my days off, if I happen to shoot something that is newsworthy, I can quickly edit and upload it to the dropbox back at the station within minutes. Still love the camera and now I’m seeing them in the 200-300$ range. Picture is fantastic.

    I do want to point out that I’ve always been told microphones are an after thought on camcorders. Their might be a difference between consumer and pro models. On the pro end it’s expected to use dedicated sound equipment and edit them together in post.
    Also you pointed out a usb inside by the screen. That’s likely the multi port for a remote control to zoom and record functions.

    • @kishascape
      @kishascape Год назад

      Yeah that USB port is normally how it’s done on camcorders and there’s plenty of models that put good mics on.

    The menu turning off while the screen is flipped is not a firmware bug, its a feature. I have other camcorders from Panasonic and they all have this stupid feature. They had this feature even over 10 years ago. I guess that adjusting the camera in selfie mode on a tripod is a use case that Panasonic does not care about. I see this as part of my daily squatting routine in the meantime. Stand up, turn the screen, adjust with straight spine bent forward, turn screen back, squat down. Ok, lets to 4 more reps in this set. Luckily the camcorder will forget manual focus settings all the time to ensure that I stay fit.

    If you set the record format to AVCHD it produces a .MTS file at 30 FPS (1080). If you go with the MP4 format it is 60 FPS, But since I record from OBS i set OBS to 24 FPS and it doesn't seem to matter what the camera does. Or does it? The still pictures it takes are quite serviceable for the web and can make a great starting point for a thumbnail.

      I think the image quality (1/2,3 type (1/2,3") BSI MOS-sensor 6,03 megapixels [16:9] ) is the best for its price class. Also the fact that you can get a clean 1080p hdmi out, connect external microphone and headphone are positives. Of course the camera has also many negatives but show me one camera in its price class that performs better?

  • @georgefliger3120

    I have no problem with the review itself as there was some very good info and advice in it. Honest reviews of merchandise are always welcome as it (hopefully) informs consumers on what's out there so they don't make a decision and purchase something they're not going to be happy with. My point was you seem to prattle when giving your review. Some people do that just to lengthen the review, feeling that longer is better. Some just don't know how to structure their review so the viewer is fully captivated by the wealth of knowledge being passed along. And then there are those who wander off and have to find their way back to what they were originally trying to convey. Just some personal thoughts on the matter, hoping it helps to improve the reviews posted. After all, we're all human and can constantly improve ourselves, myself included.

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  2 года назад

      Your gentleness is much appreciated in your critique! I have dealt with far worse opinions on my video. My goal in all honesty of this video was to be comical and angry on purpose. If you see any of my other videos none of them take this level of "brutal" negativity of a product. Including another review of this exact same camera where I actually spoke of it quite highly for all its pros. You can see that one here. ruclips.net/video/Hu81hihKLN4/видео.html

    got this used on Amazon in 2018 for 340 used for church streaming. It does its job set and forget, only complaint is very lowlight it fails. probably the 1/2.3 inch sensor to blame. If this came in a 1inch sensor its would be perfect for small churches needing a camera say 30+ feet away needing a good zoom in lower light. Prob is any camcorder like that will run you quite a bit. All of the R&D is in mirrorrless now.

    I understand your gripes..but the problem is, this particular model is clearly targeted at the consumer level..someone who just wants to pick up the camcorder and shoot it "as is". Hence why the manual controls/custom features are left to be desired. Unfortunately, for what you are asking from a camcorder, you won't see until you spend double that or more on a more professional line of camcorders. All that aside, I think the image quality is pretty good and should suit the needs of most game casters. However, I will say that it is indeed strange that the camera only allows for 60fps.. VERY strange indeed. While this camcorder might be marketed towards game casters, why alienate the camera from a greater volume of sales by allowing for AT LEAST 30fps. I personally wouldn't purchase this camera for that limitation alone.

      1080P is still the most watched format across any platform. So if you want a better quality picture, invest in lights so the camera wont have to work as hard to get the image. The harder the camera has to work the more grainy and "bla" the video will feel. Using lights to compensate so the camera can work at its most comfortable settings will help you have the greatest success. An action camera is expected to be outside, bright sunlight, with a lot of wind blowing over it to keep it cool. That's not what you need for your product. :0) Good luck and send over some work! Also, I'd like to have the manual controls (aperture) more handy. Another problem is, when you shut it off, you do not have the option to save your manual settings. Really annoying.

      Thats not a terrible price. If I saw this for maybe..... $350-400 I would absolutely consider it. I believe I paid somewhere in the ball park of 400-500 for it... For $600 I could buy a used Mirrorless and lens as long as I wasnt looking for a "long form" camera. Even if I need long form i would consider an HDMI capture card and record into a computer and not have to worry about time limits. I just picked up 2 Fujifilm cameras for $250 a piece and a lens for $130. They aren't perfect and may not have all the features, but there's a lot of options on places like Facebook Marketplace and Ebay.

I have and still will use my Panasonic HV C180 but wished it had external mic input and wifi. However the 180 has incredible zoom capabilities for $230.00! I really don’t see why anyone would ever need to make adjustments while recording in documentation style without testing first. bullshit. The HC-VX981 is also not a professional camera. It is also just a consumer camera. I use the HC-v770 professional as video is my main income. Yet these cameras are not professional camera's. For some gigs I rent professional cameras. My guess is that you have no idea what the difference between a consumer camera and a professional camera is. But that said, You do not need 4K. 4K is another price class of camera's. You only need 4k if you are a bad cameraman needing to crop in post production.

    Great honest video! Camera is frustrating. It has a manual focus feature but the scroll wheel is impossible to operate. Basically a decent point and shoot that you can get lucky with, if conditions are right. The best thing about this camera you did not touch on is that it is great for recording live and loud music with just the built in camera. If you like recording live bands, this is a great camera to have that bypasses the need to bring an external mic or audio recorder or to sync audio in post production.

    • @LegacyStudio

      Hmmm I dont think you would have a probem with that. Good question. Because your cutting your video by half then I think you would be ok because it would simply evenly remove a frame here and there to get you to the 25fps timeline. Usually that wont effect your audio output.
