Beautifully done as always. I really enjoyed the nod to Joe Pass. Very nice choice on the ending chord and swinging throughout.

Another wonderful performance. The warmth your fingers generate is really special. Is that really a 17-inch body or did you have a larger one made? Maybe it's the camera perspective but the soundbox looks (and sounds) HUGE.

Thank you (again) Alex! So glad you that you're enjoying my playing! About the guitar you're completely right, it's actually an 18 inch, and of course it makes the sound have that different character, but having said that I think there are many things to take in consideration when making a choice about the size of the guitar. Make sure you try both a 17 and an 18 inch with a similar construction or at least look up good audio examples, I would say that the character of the sound is different and bigger is not necessarily better (size doesn't matter hahaha..), it's two different sounds and I would absolutely love to have 17 inch one too. I mean just listen to the old L5s, right!(?) Than there's also the issue of comfort, I'm a very tall guy and for me I can comfortable wrap my arms around the guitar but I've had (shorter) friends play it and not finding it very comfortable, so that also something important to take into account! I hope this helped out a bit in your search for you next guitar ;) take care and let me know if you finally order a guitar (I don't think you will be disappointed, Frans is an excellent builder and such a genuine guy!)

@@EmanuelSonka Really helpful reply here and on the other thread, thank you so much! I was torn on the 1100 versus 1000 on the pickups so your insight is invaluable, as are the clips for comparison. I am looking for a dark sound as my other guitar is a selmac style and as such very bright - not sure if that affects things. I guess you can achieve much the same effect by rolling the tone dial off. Do you use round or flatwounds, by the way?

Hi again, I'm glad that I can be of some help with this :) it's been a journey for me too, trying out what works for me and it's still very much ongoing!
First about the pickups, from my experience the 1000 is a bit more microphonic than the 1100, something I really like in both of them, they tend to pick up the sound of the instrument a bit more (my opinion) than let's say a humbucker. For me, the deal breaker with the 1000 is that it doesn't have individual pole pieces (for me being able to have good volume balance between the strings out ways that I slightly favor the sound of the 1000). Having that said for a darker maybe more Wes-type tone I would definitely go with a humbucker/mini humbucker. I actually wanted less darkness in my tone that's why I changed to the Rhythm Chief in the end.
Now to the second question, strings; yes I'm using flatwound, Thomastik-Infeld 13's Jazz Swing, in the video of Out Of Nowhere and Night And Day, and actually recently I've went down to 11's and that's what you hear in the later two videos.
Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to help or bounce ideas, so don't hesitate!

@@EmanuelSonka careful what you wish for, I'm going to take you up on that offer :)
Yeah - I heard that about the 1000s, other folks have come up with various workarounds: heavier E/B/unwound G strings, a cardboard shim on the treble side, you name it!
What caused you to drop from 13s to 11s besides comfort? Was there a noticeable drop in output from the pickup, or did the acoustic tone change in any way? The difference in tone between 10s and 11s is massive on my gypsy guitar (which may have a lot to do with scale length as well: at 670mm it's way more than your typical archtop at 635); unfortunately, they're not built to take 12s. Ah yes, scale: do you notice any meaningful difference between 25" and 25.5" in tone, or is it just a case of go with what you're used to?
TBH the Elf - and it's practically 100% I'm going to place an order with Frans next week - is as much with the next generation in mind as for me. My then-11-year-old had been playing for about 18 months when we recorded this in the summer, and I think he's set his mind on doing this jazz thing for real. ruclips.net/video/UV5qgArdhyo/видео.html . When did you start playing, and what was your musical journey (studies, self-taught, influences)?

Thank you! Well, it's a song I've played for a while in different situations, both with bands, in jams and also solo, but well for this recording I prepared maybe like a month before or so, mostly just making sure that I played it a bit everyday so that it would be fresh the day of the recording. All the best!
