Fire Alarm Test #36

  • Test of a Simplex 4002 system in an old behavioral health facility now used as an activity venue/conference center. The pull stations seen marked "FIRE PULL" were custom spec'd by the facility years ago so patients wouldn't pull the alarm. With the key, only certain staff had access.
    Also, I apologize if I sound out of breath in spots as prior to this, I was running up & down stairs numerous times helping the sprinkler guy who was there with me.

    Walk Test On? Smoke Detector? And Fire Key?

    I just worked (acknowledging and resetting) duct detectors and pull stations on a panel like this one. In a old steel company that has been around over 100 years. There were no smoke detectors in the facility. Oh, there were two key switches. And is funny, cause the key switches activated two duct detectors that were reachable. We had to skipped one duct detector because of hard to reach location. One of those key switches should of have been relocated to the hard to reach duct detector.

    Now that this place is a public venue, are there any plans to replace the key switches with normal pull stations?

      Not that I know of that's up to the property owners.

    Does Simplex allow the use of a magnet for functional testing? NFPA 72 requires a method to ensure smoke entry. Table 14.4.3.2 item 17 (g) (1) in the 2013 edition.

    • @safetech
      @safetech  7 лет назад +1

      Cameron Wilkins
      Yes. I used this method for purposes of this video primarily for signal testing. All the smokes get functionally tested via smoke at other times throughout the year.

    • @djjammindave
      @djjammindave 6 лет назад +1

      Magnetic use only on Duct Detectors Wall Switches requiring a magnet. Smoke on all Smoke Detectors and duct detectors.

    When you had it in walk test why was the panel and annunciation going into trouble after testing each device? I believe a continuous beep indicates trouble on a simplex system.

    • @MisterBroadnax
      @MisterBroadnax 7 лет назад +3

      Gary Beltz Walk test often throws a simplex system into trouble. However the panel didn't show it, but the annunciator did. I believe that the 4002 panel issued a System Reset after each device was tested. Thus causing a Walk Test trouble to reoccur

    • @safetech
      @safetech  7 лет назад +4

      Gary Beltz
      These older style annunciators on 4002's will not acknowledge when the unit is in walk-test. And yes, Walter you are correct in your comment. 4002/4001's will drop voltage to all devices for a few seconds upon each reset.

    • @Vulpix4025
      @Vulpix4025 4 года назад

      Isn't that annunciator also compatible with the Simplex 4005 panel as well?

  • @futurealarms121

    Never knew the 4002 had a "walk-test" feature like that. Is that linked to one of the auxiliary switches on the panel? And is that a standard feature on 4002's?

    • @sirensofsoutheastmichigan
      @sirensofsoutheastmichigan 5 лет назад

      You are correct, they are standard features, the 4001 and up have the walktest feature, im unsure about the 2001s but the others do

    • @GaryBeltz
      @GaryBeltz 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah once a year ALL devices on a fire alarm system have to be checked. Some places will do a monthly test where they ring it for a short time while pulling devices or tripping smoke/heat detectors in a specific area i, e, lobby but the annual tests EVERYTHING has to be touched.
