This is for everyone who is getting “AN EXCEPTION OCCURED” on a Pokémon game:
1. Save your game before entering a new area and save after as well.
2. Save before and after cutscenes.
3. When you are selecting cheats through the Rosalina Menu, deselect it if it changes color to red when selected; that cheat doesn’t work.
4. Make sure the cheat that you chose matches the version of the game you are playing: e.g. Walk through walls v 1.2 should be used with Pokémon Moon version 1.2
5. If a cheat you want to use doesn’t work with the version, you can delete the update data through system settings.
Hopefully this helps and your game doesn’t crash literally every minute like mine did
Firestorm Maybe that selected cheat is buggy or something. I tried walk through walls and 100% shiny rate and they worked fine. PC Box in options menu is a supper buggy one, you shouldn’t do that one.

Which game are you playing
Firestorm I’m playing on Moon, maybe it doesn’t work for Omega Ruby.
Firestorm It should have the version at the bottom screen after you press a at the Title screen with the primal Groudon. Make sure the version number matches, and also update to the newest version of Omega Ruby.
Tbh the 3ds is what got me back into hacking. It's so cool because it gets me thinking "hm, if I can make my 3ds do this what else can I make other devices do?'
Thats actually pretty cool. Also, trying out other devices is a cool way to learn about how strong your devices are! For example, trying to emulate n64 on a 3DS causes tons of lag and graphical errors, but doing the same thing on a Wii U works great! In that case, the Wii U is stronger than the 3DS. Keep trying different devices and learning how they work!

PSA : if your console crashes after using the cheat, then maybe the cheat is not compatible. And it doesn't work for all games.

And actually you can put all the .txt file inside the cheats folder on your sd card, no need to use checkpoint, just use Luma3DS Rosalina menu afterwards.

Thanks, I had checkpoint and I thought I just had to select the cheats from there, didn’t know about holding L down and select to actually activate the cheats

as usual, love your videos man! thanks. just in case it can help anyone, while using checkpoint, if you press SELECT and hold B it should also refresh your game list! in old version of checkpoint it was written in the command list, but in the newest version is not. hope it can help! Ciao!

I was totally stuck with some of my installed titles not showing up in Checkpoint. Your advice to delete the "titles.sha" file through FBI totally solved the issue. Thank you for providing this helpful information!
I tried that still nothing held down refresh button open and saved games several times only 1 games shows i have 11 games installed

It is a good idea to backup the save of the game before activating the cheat, it is rare, but cheats might cause glitches in games.
Hey man, I was just wondering if I could save my progress in my pokemon games which I downloaded when I got my Homebrewed 3ds just like any other genuinely bought pokemon games?

Thank you... got my N3DS hacked a bit ago and was trying to figure out the chest system via FTPD. I had to manually load my Rosalina menu and edit how to open it during a game. but then it worked.

Cheat probably not compatible with that version of the game.
use older luma release 9.1
download the luma boot.firm and rename it with other name for example "9.1.firm". load the luma with start plus power button. choose the file name from the boot menu. it will not crash on my 2ds xl. hope it helps

When i try to use the cheats on pokemon Alpha saphire i get the "AN AXCEPTION OCCURED" error when i use the "All medical items x99". after i activate the cheats i go out of the Rosalina Menu then go into my bag and then the error happens.

Yo, so i did 3 cheats for pokemon and my 3ds went into a random screen and said something about a expected error occurred. What does that mean? Can i not do cheats?
It mean that the cheat isnt stable for pokèmon

u can use checkpoint, then go to 3ds/checkpoint/saves folder.. its there.

I've gone through majority of the cheats and none of them seem to work for pokemon Alpha Sapphire. The system crashes and a exception occurred.

Does anyone know if it's possible to upload or create Gateshark (Checkpoint) cheats? I noticed for the Pokemon games like Crystal, Fire Red, etc. Checkpoint doesn't appear to have the cheats to set the wildlife encounter to the pokemon of your choice like how you would with a Gameshark, the only one close that I've found it called "capture" but so far it has only spawned Squirtle and there's no indication of a button press/sequence to change the pokemon spawned so I would really like to know if it exists or if not, if it can be added

None of my cheats seem to work, for example when i activate something in Terraria I get the option between V1 as well as V1.0.1. Is that in reference to the games latest update or the version of the cheat? Either way they both do nothing. Are my cheats out-dated or something? I really have no idea lol

no matter what game, from fire emblem to pokemon mystery dungeon whenever i use a cheat, at some point it crashes my entire system. it crashes similar to how puzzles and dragons super mario bros edition crashes upon startup (that crashes when i hit the start button for some reason i havent figured out yet and i havent even activate cheats) but unlike that game it makes me restart my entire system. any fixes for the cheats? and maybe puzzles and dragons too? ive been dying to play that game

Hey I have a question. I have successfully installed FBI among with the luma menu and everything I have even started using cheats. But now I want to transfer all the memory to a new SD card. Can I just drag all the files to the new SD card and the FBI will still be there or do I need to repeat a proccess?

When I use checkpoint certain cheats crash my console and says arm 11 error and I don't know why can you please help I tried I tried multiple different ways of doing this but it crashes every single time when I haven't been able to even if I haven't even put the cheat bind in or anything like that if I try to for example but Shiny Pokemon on in in Pokemon Y it crashes my game please help

hey sthetix, if I reformat my new 3DS with cfw aand luma installedwhat happens exactly? I have 2 corrupted NDS cia files installed on my 3Ds'es vitual nand and theres no way to actually delete it off of my data management menu (wont show up, but its on the main menu screen). I just want to get rid of the 2 corrupted NDS cia's I installed

everything works here for me, BUT sadly the key combinations dont do anything

I have a problem with Checkpoint, I can't use any of the cheat codes available for Fire Emblem Awakening. From the money cheat to the infinite move cheat, nothing works and I don't know why...
Edit: Turns out I activated the wrong "money" cheat code, I wonder why there was even two of them in the first place. The "infinite move" cheat still don't work however.

i been having issues, i was tested to see if it work so i had stored just one cheat, once i saw that it works i wanted to store more. however after it ask do you want to store cheats, i check yes, start the game then go to lumina then cheats, it only has the one cheat i had tested before and didnt store the other cheats, is there a reason for this?

- what's the difference between the usual backup data and xtradata
- can i salvage the savefile when using backup xtradata by using citra

Every time I do the cheats it always goes to a black screen with error on it. Lots of words on it too. Says to press any button to turn off system

For anyone who wants cheats in Pokemon but your game keeps crashing? I think i found a solution:
If your 3ds is on, Turn it off.
Now, press and hold Select and press the power button.
You should boot into the Luma 3DS Config.
Go down to "Disable ARM11 exception handlers" and this should fix the problem. This does disqualify you from submitting issues issues or bug reports to the Luma3DS GitHub repostitory.
So, i guess this method is like 1 way. But, it's the only way i know
EDIT: Oh, i forgot to say the next steps, lol.
I assume you already have the cheats you want (if not, watch this vid or the other vid sthetix has about checkpoint if you dont know how)
Load up the Pokemon game
Press L, Down on the D-Pad, and Select.
Go to cheats, press on all the cheat/s you want to use.
Press save.
Exit the game.
Go back into the game (lol)
Now, check the game again to see if the cheat worked
Hopefully, and it should have worked.

oh, i should prob say, pksm works a lot better instead of doing this. just search up "pksm cia." and it should come up. just install it with FBI and load up pksm. You can basically do like, anything with it.
