Well, I never had to do that in cars made in the 90s. At least not when letting people into the back. Actually... I don't think my Trabant had that problem...
Bought the 74hp version. It's brilliant fun and is more than capable of getting up to motorway speeds and overtaking people. Even though it's not designed for motorway journeys I got 57mpg. I think James was enjoying the turbo a bit too much hence the poor fuel economy
I own a 2012 Golf mk6 1.4 16v and the factory says 6.4lit/100km average consumption and my calculations based on the amount of petrol I put on gas stations says 6.1 lit/100km. So VW does not lie but people don't know how to drive

I think this car is having an identity crisis. Is it basic, bare-bones transportation with VW badge - or is it supposed to be a cute, fun, and customizable niche car like the Mini? The manufacturing line needs additional flexibility. The cost is passed on to the consumer, resulting in a econobox costing as much as a near-luxury vehicle.

As for the Up GTI, I own one... absolutely love it! 😍😍 fun, quick, sounds amazing & in terms of fuel economy well after a few thousand miles on the clock got 61mpg out of her on a long run, didn't want to go any higher but that's still fantastic.
Great review. I have pre facelift one and it's great car. it's joy to drive and consumption is great, driving on the motorway over speed limit and it's hard to get it over 6l/100km

S Brack Agree with you and for that price and laughable MPG you could have something like a used Ford Focus diesel which would be better to drive, have loads more room and you would get over 50 MPG with hardly anymore money in road tax or insurance.
Why would it cost you more? I could get a car with 20'000 miles (barely used) far cheaper and far more interesting, which is just as reliable if chosen wisely. Also there are such things as free lunches, my grandma gives me them all the time haha.
Just a few points then32mpg.....ASG single clutch automated transmission (why not use CVT?)Interior - is it a big step up, or any step up from the pre-face lift? Weak mpg. Likely to improve as the engine is run in. These small 3 cylinder 1 litre turbos (vw/ford) seem to get quite poor mpg in real world. Given I get 46mpg out of a leon estate (and the absolute worst of 36 in heavy traffic) unless the journey was really short I'd expect at least 50mpg from a light city car like this.
does the basic up get a steering wheel?

as regards design it looks almost identical to an hotpoint ariston washing machine.
I'll wait for the GTI
My base Up with the weaker 3-cylinder lacks grunt, especially in summer with AC on and a passenger or two. Turbo 1.0 would remedy that.
Never had any trouble with mine . It was quite happy on a main road doing 70 mph !
STOP INSULTING MY BEAUTIFUL CAR.
had a up! in the family for 3 years, the transmission on the manual is the most noisy rattling pile of junk I've ever experienced, certainly a car built down to a price.
Tell that to that thin-skinned BrateTebra123, she's ranting at anyone here who dares criticize VW lol
G Rodriguez Vw just another car brand to me, they stink of self arrogance whilst churning out middle of the road predictable boring cars, never really understood the love.
Meanwhile in Australia, (speaking of VW arrogance) you should read these articles lol...

David C Agree with you, would rather have a two year old bigger diesel car which is not a tiny tin cheap euro box and would hardly cost more to own and run and you would get way more MPG.
The phone cradle is on upside down in this video.
THIS VIDEO IS NOT LISTED
Talk about the panoramic roof!!!
My GTI gets 32mpg wtf
if you are not qualified to drive a manual you obviously cannot save on an automated transmission..... and buy sticker s.......
32 mpg and body roll, think I'll look Aygo.
now watch this again and count how many times he says AND!
cadê os BR ?
you forgot the 0 - 60 time and top speed 😝
10 seconds on the turbo version (mentioned on video), top speed 115mph.
EinkOLED was just jokin. but thats pretty good for a 1l
It wasn't designed for performance, but it is faster than the toyota aygo.
i had a 107 and that was agonisingly slow. 13 seconds to hit 60 on a dry day.
My ford focus is a measly 10 or 11 seconds but I own a motorcycle that can reach 60 in under 4 seconds.
No 4-cylinder option? 3-cylinders are invariably unbalanced and rough sounding, not to mention woefully underpowered.
Estate by the way is 1.4tsi 140 4 cylinder so a lot more power yet way more mpg even if driven hard. Either your up is broken or it's not run in.
£11.000 is cheap for Dutch standards like we can't even buy an ATV for that money
32mpg, so the same as my 3.0tdi 280bhp Audi A8 then. What a joke!
If your Audi was driven the same way, he drove the Up, it would do 15 mpg. And if he drove the Up the way, you drive your Audi, it would do 50 mpg.
Bare paint on the doors and in the boot....nah !
Don't fancy driving a box
Pretty expensive washing-machine
good looking car and fucking engine
