Fantastic series guys! I can see in Ron's eyes the frustration of the Murray-Darling Scheme that the government absolutely made a mess of. It's a damn shame and criminal behaviour! Really gets my blood boiling. What was once a thriving place in the outback has now turned to crap because of a few idiots. Anyway, keep up the great work guys, i'm loving these videos!
Sorry, Wilcannia is 70,000 thumbs down. It is the epitome of when it goes wrong in the bush it is friggin bad. Do your self a favour and make sure you do not need to stop for anything in Wilcannia. I have done 20 out so tours in the area and outback NSW (always salivate as we near Emma Roadhouse for the best Pulled lamb rolls in the country between Broken Hill and Cobar) and its so sad what Wilcannia is now. Thats why I see the selective high shots in the vid of the cop shop, the only business still operating and thriving and the bridge to get the hell out of there...... Excellent series though. Cheers Gaz
I know what your'e saying but still an interesting place to stop and have a look around. Many classic old buildings although yes most are boarded up. We stop each time we come through. The camp ground on the river is actually quite good. Nice grassy areas under shady trees along the river and the amenities are quite OK and the fees are cheap. It is popular for the over night stayers. Give Wilcannia a go, it's part of the character of the Outback.
Stopped at Wilcania last year, did a night in the council camp on the river, all good. This was our first stop since a trip in 2010 it's come on heaps since then, we had a chat with some locals in town very friendly people. Wilcania, Thumbs up from us.
Very depressing place. Passed through there recently and it's quite a shock to see the vandalism and measures taken to keep scum who want what's not theirs out of private property. The servo attendant was extremely rude to my wife after a failed eftpos transaction, accusing her of taking the card out too early and expressing discontent at having to do it all again. I didn't even really need the fuel but thought I would help the locals by topping up. The only interesting thing I found in the place was the collection of old cars just out of town.
