- Elly's restoration work continues. With the bodyshell in Yorkshire, I bring home the chassis for a checkover. I'll be preparing a shopping list!
I've just noticed that I appear to have two Part Fives. Oops!
Nice to have someone provide a real look at engine and transmission in a 2CV. Hubnut broke it down into laymans terms so someone like me could really understand how it all functions and works. I love this channel. WOOOHHOOO.
How marvelous! In all the years I owned a 2CV I never had the chance to see either of mine as bare chassis. If only I had the knowledge and facilities I have now 😔
you could do with a clean up in that garage
The clean up of the garage stays with us till 2021.
This will go well, the most important restoration piece is already on the chassis: the trusty *WD40* Can 🤭✊

It wasn't a runaway Citroen this time. It looked cool when you driving the chassis.

Where is the differencial located? It should be somewhere in the gearbox.
It is within the gearbox - it's a transaxle.
Just a question, never seen a 2cv this stripped. Can you polybush this style of suspension? Or do race 2cv use the same system.
There's nothing to polybush really. Racers use the same system but with stiffer springs and dampers, and reinforced front arms.

2:40 I'm REALLY not a mechanic... but couldn't you put some kind of silicone sleeve over that to stop grease going out and muck going in?
How come beds don’t have Hydropneumatic Suspension?
One of the things i dont understand well about this ca ris the steering. Does it change camber and tie as the suspension moves?
Yes, the camber changes a lot. Very similar to a W124 Mercedes in fact.
Looks like a big go kart. I prefer body on frame to monocoque cars So many advantages over them. Is the chassis getting repainted as well?
Nope. No need for paint. It's galvanised and is holding up well.
All seems in working order. How much does a 2CV weigh 600kg?

HubNut I think its the first time ive ever seen a deux cheveux rolling chassis.
Its the law You have to drive the Chassis around the block but did you use a Beer Crate or the Rarer Milk Crate( In London )
+Johnny Psycho Alas, I didn't actually drive it in that state, only down the driveway with gravity.
Don't they make a circular pin for the suspension and a connecting rod with a grease nipple?
No. People have tried to fit grease nipples but then the eye fails. There are sound engineering reasons for using a triangle section.

I thought I saw a picture where you had a tow bar fitting? what happened?
She did have a tow bar for a while. I towed a little caravan. It was horrendous. Tow bar now lives on a friend's 2CV. In Italy.
Hows the work coming along on Elly?
Welding is finished. Waiting for a paint slot now, though that may not be for a while yet.
Do you think that a rusted chassis can be saved?
It just isn't worth it. Back in the day, people would go to heroic efforts to repair them, even removing the top and bottom skin to repair in the internals. But, you might as well just buy another chassis today. A lot less effort, and likely to last an awful lot longer.
