People say it's a very technical weapon and they're not entirely wrong ... but they absolutely overestimate its overall complexity. It's a weapon with a fairly simple core and a lot of fluff. Sword: basic combos, a charged slash, phial charging Axe: slow strong attacks, discharging phials That's the core and you don't really need to know anything more to use it. You will add new moves to your repertuar eventually but the base is simple - charge the sword, discharge the axe. There wasn't anything more to the weapon in its original form - in MH4. But then came MH4U and it added some important features to the weapon - you could now transfer your phials to the shield making it stronger. Now your block is better, your axe is stronger and untill the buff wears off you have an access to a super finisher in the axe form. Bonus fluff feature: Now it has a parry mechanic! When you morph the weapon there are moments when you put the shield in front of yourself - if you use it to block you get a quick shortcut to the finishers AND a charged shield stuns monsters a little bit. It's fluff that you don't necessarely need but you eventually get a good grasp on and becomes very useful MHW - hey, now you have a sliding slash in the sword form and can apply a new buff to the sword! More fluff! Iceborne: Hey, you now have even more fluff! You can make the axehead spin! There were more small scale changes on the way but they were either details in how moves link into each other and one off mechanics that got dropped after one game.
Charge Blade is one of the 2 weapons I main'ed in Rise, and is easily for me the most complex weapon out of all the weapons I main'ed since I started playing MH games back in Tri. It's truly the fighting game weapon :D
It's the hardest one to learn, but after that it's pretty much repeating the same patterns until you can unleash your most powerful attack. So once you learn it, it's actually not too bad. Basically the reverse of the Switch Axe which is very easy to pick up, but one of the hardest weapons to actually master.
Capcom likes to sneak in bits of arcade/fighting game style game design in their non-fighting game releases, and MH is no exception. Picking a weapon is basically like finding a character.
@@pirig-gal Well, it does require some investing if you're doing it late game. You're gonna need some materials to upgrade your weapon since otherwise it'd be 2-3 ranks behind your main one (though I suppose you could also go back and beat rank-appropriate monsters to get some practice in).

Just in case you read the comments, here are a few things about charge blade you might not have known: there’s this thing you can do with it called “guard point”. To perform it, as far as I know you have to have the shield in front of you, outside of guarding. At the end of the Y+Y+Y combo where you end with a spin, you put your shield in front of you at the end of the spin. During the time that your shield is in front of you, you’ll block any attacks monsters do to you better than you would if you were just holding up your shield. A couple of other moves that give you guard point are RT when your weapon is sheathed, the basic transition from sword and shield to axe (RT+Y), and at the end of the slide move. The last thing I wanted to mention is called Savage Axe. It’s a mode for your axe that makes the axe head spin whenever you hit a monster. To enter savage axe mode, I believe that you have to have red shield (Y+B in axe mode plus RT during the startup animation), and then from there go for an elemental discharge and press LT. the best combo in savage axe mode is probably something like just a basic Y input plus a B input on repeat. Sorry that this is long but I hope it helps, assuming this is all new information to you. Happy hunting!
@_Rerr_ Haha, it's more an in-joke due to how technical the weapon was (but I wouldn't be surprised if there was one),especially when it was first released in Generations, 4U and XX, so players didn't know about spacing, phial charges, using regular discharge instead of SAED when your shield is charged, and guard points etc. That was also when CB was most broken, apparently. Good times.
I'll always hate this game for underplaying and mislabeling the Sword and Shield like that. The shield is not for guarding, the shield is for punching :D Also, especially in Iceborne, it's the most balanced and versatile weapon in the game while still having OP/broken damage on Perfect Rush. Its only weakness is the range/reach.
idk what koe's style is like yet, i found the timed blocking stuff on lance and such that have a shield really cool, and hammer just felt easy for my brain to handle
Man's got good taste in weapons. Though I had to give up on CB, just did not understand how it worked. Went with Gunlance in the end, but also strongly considered switch axe. Hope Koe's having fun!
It's not the amount of moves or even the charges and that you can charge the blade, the axe and the shield that makes this weapon the most technical. It's the guardpoints.
Bro it is so nice to see someone pick up chargeblade and not immediately balk about how "complicated" it is. Most people just complain about how much you need to think lol
To play the charge blade, you only need to hit > charge phials when red > hit > charge shield > hit > charge phials > hit > use finisher. Quite simple, no?
Goated weapon, have been using it since it's creation in MH 4 Ultimate, and have never stopped maining it (I can play almost every weapon but CB is my favorite by far! Great choice, Koe!!)
@procow2274 it's not that deep my guy XD It was just a weapon in a game that we got in a different version of the same game, cuz that's all 4 Ultimate is, the SAME GAME, with maybe very miniscule differences between the two.
I think you'll like switchaxe too if you like Charge Blade. It's essentially the same but instead of defense + offense with the Chargeblade, it's Offense+Offense with the Switchaxe. They basically share the same Morph/Charge mechanics too.
Nah, they're extremely different weapons. Charge blade is about micromanaging until you get the big hits in. Switch Axe is about constant dps. Its most damaging attacks pale in comparison to the strongest attacks of many other weapons or come with pretty much the longest recovery animation in the game (the ZSD).
I've been waiting to hear this as fighting game player who has recently picked up the game properly and play charge blade and just had u confirm all my thoughts 😮😮
I personally think that the Kinsect Glaive should only be used later when you can make a faster Kinsect to go out and attack the monster and get you an extract. When I first started playing Monster Hunter World I didn't use the Kinsect Glaive until I beat Zorah Magdaros.
As a charge blade main, its always amusing to see someone blind pick it to try. But it's always vidicating to see the satisfaction in someone's eyes when they realize the power and capabilities that this weapon provides.
Monster Hunter Wilds announcement at the game awards started a bit of a chicken and egg word of mouth pinball effect; Streamers and content creators immensely pop off experiencing World, MonHun fans jump back into World after being on Rise for a while because Rise was the (SO) tasty side dish to World's true successor, and something I'll also mention on a wider scale that Capcom has been doing nothing but popping off this past entire generation. Street Fighter repaired itself after 5's release was one big stumble to the point 6 was a landmark title *on release,* Resident Evil post-RE Engine has been nothing but bangers (maybe except 3R, but that's just it being short and less replayable), Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection proved among the other collections that Mega Man fans are still around chomping at the bit for more, and MonHun because of World catapulting the series to full-on mainstream success. Not to say Capcom hasn't made mistakes (SF6's cosmetic DLC and THREE WEEK BATTLE PASSES is just plain toxic for example), but Capcom built up an immense amount of good will last gen going into this one and it really shows in MonHun's explosion.
I think there's a correlation between someone that plays fighting games a lot and monhun weapons that have relatively complicated combos. My brother is someone that's quite into fighting games and plays a lot of them, and he plays the likes of charge blade like it's just another greatsword. He can do the bow combo where he shoot on the ground, fly up, rain down the arrows, then drop down and continue shooting. Me, I'm just a gunlance turtle where I poke and shoot once in awhile and keep the shield up the entire time.
SnS (my beloved) and hunting horn are definitely top tier support weapons. Always glad to see a hunter with one because I know I’m getting heals and buffs for days
As a stubborn MHW HH main, I don't go all out healing build (sorry) but I do make sure to buff my team up to the gills, and keep them up while dishing out the bonks.
That one guy in his chat that said the ranged weapons aren't viable is definitely wrong. There are no bad weapons, everything depends on user preference
I'll at least be fair and say, as a bow main, the ranged weapons really struggle immensely in the early game. Bow NEEDS certain skills to not feel awful and the bowguns I believe heavily rely on the items you need to bring with you to create more ammo, though I never mained either bowgun so I might be wrong on that. Late game they are fantastic, but early game and for a new player, probably not a particularly fun experience.
@@Chillz_OG I'm more familiar with the bowguns than the bow, but most of them have enough ammo variety that crafting more is unnecessary until early high rank or master rank, especially if you use spread ammo over normal or pierce
As Yeah, I tried to main Charge Blade when it first came out in MH4, but it was too much for me to remember in a fight. I’ll take my Switch Axe over it. It’s basically a Zero-Brain-Cell version of the Charge Blade anyway; a lot of the damage and transformative goodness, but lacking in a lot of defensive options to compensate. And Zero-Sum Discharges are very addicting to land.
Just started playing today before work and also chose charge blade XD Its definitely complicated and i definitely need to learn more about the movesets so i can block and attack more smoothly For now i would see myself as a guy that swings his blunt overheated defender Sword around while sometimes forgetting that there is a axe form to release all that charged up energy XD

It's fluff that you don't necessarely need but you eventually get a good grasp on and becomes very useful
MHW - hey, now you have a sliding slash in the sword form and can apply a new buff to the sword!
The best part is that you can switch any time.
@@pirig-gal Well, it does require some investing if you're doing it late game. You're gonna need some materials to upgrade your weapon since otherwise it'd be 2-3 ranks behind your main one (though I suppose you could also go back and beat rank-appropriate monsters to get some practice in).
@@thenonexistinghero true, but that's not all that different from switching weapon trees. I'm now trying to get to Viper Kadachi's CB, and I'm blocked completely by one Majestic Horn that just refuses to drop.
What I like the most is that there's no mechanical barrier from suddenly switching weapons, which in other games would be entire different classes.
@@pirig-gal Depends on the game. Most RPG's, sure. Platformers, action games, fighting games, etc... usually not.
Also yes Majestic Horn... supposed 65% or so droprate in most games from 2x horn breaks. Drops almost every time until you need 1 more, then you kill 5 Diablos in a row and break both horns and get nothing. Then on the 6th run you gets like 4 in 1 go, but not a single one from the 2x horn break.
Gunlance are not that stupid with all the explosion you can do😂
True its stupid...
Stupidly AWSOME hahahah
As a GL Main stupid explosions is the best hahahah. Also when you relod the gunlance sound, feels good
@@ph_12gunlancehunter64 and when multiple iceborne gunlancers are in the same hunt and get their wyrmstakes all on the same area of the monster....
it is *GLORIOUS*
Koe playing charge blade nice!!
I don't wanna miss your stream now XD
there are two weapon types in monster hunter. The sword and shield and the wrong weapon type
Welcome to Charge Blade. 200 hours to learn the basics a whole life to learn it fully
Yes... Another one to the collection. Welcome to the club Koe, there is a complimentary PDF on how to play the Chargeblade.
I never realized there was a pdf and just learned all the combo strings myself 😂
Good times.
@@kaofee yeah that's fair, i mained CB in 4u and didnt know about saed until world
I’m really glad a lot more people are getting back/into MHW it deserves the love
Good choice. I always pick like 5 weapon classes to focus on every game and charge blade is pretty consistently in there
Long Sword so you can be like Kson
I am convinced that all charge blade users are the most dangerous people on earth, but the most respected as well.
I'll always hate this game for underplaying and mislabeling the Sword and Shield like that. The shield is not for guarding, the shield is for punching :D
Also, especially in Iceborne, it's the most balanced and versatile weapon in the game while still having OP/broken damage on Perfect Rush. Its only weakness is the range/reach.
No oils though.
@@blackjacktrial give it up man, they were a thing for one game only. I would really like a comeback, but i've made my peace to never see them again.
It really is more like Sword and Club. Sometimes Club and Club.
@@gmkgoat Two differently shaped clubs that sometimes club a tail so hard it pops off.
But that's the thing i don't like about it, why give it a pathetic shield that can't even shield properly? Should've called it Sword and Club lol.
Where can i watch the full vod of these mhw series
I'm a fan and i really want to watch it aaaaa

idk what koe's style is like yet, i found the timed blocking stuff on lance and such that have a shield really cool, and hammer just felt easy for my brain to handle
Man's got good taste in weapons. Though I had to give up on CB, just did not understand how it worked. Went with Gunlance in the end, but also strongly considered switch axe.
Hope Koe's having fun!
You picked Charge Blade. As a Switch-Axe user I now have to consider you my enemy.
Aight New cb main ok bro I respect it
I picked charge blade but i didnt have someone to tell me how complex it was
It's not the amount of moves or even the charges and that you can charge the blade, the axe and the shield that makes this weapon the most technical. It's the guardpoints.
Bro it is so nice to see someone pick up chargeblade and not immediately balk about how "complicated" it is. Most people just complain about how much you need to think lol
The hunts begins
The Charge Blade beckons to him
To play the charge blade, you only need to hit > charge phials when red > hit > charge shield > hit > charge phials > hit > use finisher. Quite simple, no?
More! ❤️ I love MHW and I switched to CB from the Insect Glaive a while back. Best decision I've made. Such a great weapon.
Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance are some of my favorite weapons. While the Lance is Slow, it can SHRED an enemies head like no other when used well.
Goated weapon, have been using it since it's creation in MH 4 Ultimate, and have never stopped maining it
(I can play almost every weapon but CB is my favorite by far! Great choice, Koe!!)
Technically it was created in 4 not 4u
@procow2274 ok, that's the Japanese one, in Western standards it's 4 Ultimate, so I'm still right
@@mystoganabaddon6717 that's not how it works. Regardless of where you first played it its creation is set in stone
@procow2274 it's not that deep my guy XD
It was just a weapon in a game that we got in a different version of the same game, cuz that's all 4 Ultimate is, the SAME GAME, with maybe very miniscule differences between the two.
@@mystoganabaddon6717 by that logic world and rise are the same game
Chargeblade is definitely not the most technical weapon… has a slightly higher starting curve but a pretty simple gameplan
0:11 ah hell nah who said that. Bring up the hame footage to show them the truth
heard this clip is what started the monster hunter community privilege on koe👀
WE GOT EM BOYS
Please upload vod I love to see
LET'S GOOOOO KOE MONHUN
Welcome to the Charge Blade family, Koefficient. 💚💚
"This would make Guts jealous."
As a GS main i have to dissent on that. ☝🏼😲
Sad Gunlance noises...
wait till he learn how to guard point, then he'll solo everything from then on
I think you'll like switchaxe too if you like Charge Blade.
@@thenonexistinghero I was more meaning with the charge/phial sort of mechanics but you do you bud
I have never heard someone call a moveset a "movepool"
Hope homie learns to guard point, it'll help
Oh, Koe is also hopping on the world train? nice.
Of course he picks flowchart the weapon, the most fighting game oriented weapon of the whole bunch.
I've been waiting to hear this as fighting game player who has recently picked up the game properly and play charge blade and just had u confirm all my thoughts 😮😮
You can craft a dante devil charge blade
I wonder if you'd check out hololive MH stuff (Luna's proficient weapons? Yes)
Aki's fond of the corn cob gunlance in MHR
I personally think that the Kinsect Glaive should only be used later when you can make a faster Kinsect to go out and attack the monster and get you an extract.
When I first started playing Monster Hunter World I didn't use the Kinsect Glaive until I beat Zorah Magdaros.
funny he say that CB is a the dante of the weapon pool, cause dante's weapon IS a CB in MH World.
Longsword ("the katana") and charge blade are both my mains. Ive been playing LS since the ol' crabclaw psp days
As a charge blade main, its always amusing to see someone blind pick it to try. But it's always vidicating to see the satisfaction in someone's eyes when they realize the power and capabilities that this weapon provides.
Why is everyone playing Monter Hunter World again? Did an update happen? I feel like i missed something.
Because of the coming Monster hunter wild. Many old and new players play the mh games. Its like preparing for the new hunt hahah
One of us! Join the charge blade brotherhood.
I loved going around responding to SOS flares with my SnS Mushroomancer Wide Range build.
As a stubborn MHW HH main, I don't go all out healing build (sorry) but I do make sure to buff my team up to the gills, and keep them up while dishing out the bonks.
Looking forward to seeing Koe work out sword and shield boosts. :D
You gotta join the hunting horn crew!
KOE PLAYING MONHUN LETS'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO
I remember first using charge blade I went right into a hunt completed failed didn't understand the weapon at all. Now it's one of my main weapons
We've Gained another Charge Blade main. REJOICE
Lance hath been forsaken again
If you wanna be a true chad its alway hunting horn.
Love that you picked up MHW and CB. Looking forward to your MH adventure
I see an Around the World in your near future.
@@Chillz_OG I'm more familiar with the bowguns than the bow, but most of them have enough ammo variety that crafting more is unnecessary until early high rank or master rank, especially if you use spread ammo over normal or pierce
we did not get a new hammer bro, sad
Sword and Shield may be "meh" but it's my baby how dare you :(
Some of these weapons remind me of God Eater. Though maybe it's the other way around.
Clicked because of the charge blade in the thumbnail.
choosing weap on mh its like choosing wand in harry potter
yall i successfully taught CB to my friend who's new to world :') the chadblade club is growing
Just started playing today before work and also chose charge blade XD
Its definitely complicated and i definitely need to learn more about the movesets so i can block and attack more smoothly
For now i would see myself as a guy that swings his blunt overheated defender Sword around while sometimes forgetting that there is a axe form to release all that charged up energy XD
I would advise you to not use defender weapons and set, there op and are ment for veterans to get to the ice borne expansion quickly. If your new it can ruin your experience in the game
@@h1ghken yeah it's only my second day, and I noticed it too
You can upgrade the defender weapons way too fast and they do way to much damage for someone who is just starting
I switched back to my bone weapons
