I think it's such a shame the public's opinion of his acting abilities was blemished by the Twilight series, but I think the last few projects he's been in he's clearly showing to possibly be one of the greatest actors of his generation.
I cannot speak for other people but i could not see much of his acting abilities in HP because he didn't have much screen time and Twilight i don't think any of them was able to show their talent but after that series am happy he has picked movies and interesting roles where he can show he can act
I don't know what you saw, but he was acting great in the Twilight Saga. Twilight was based on the Books. Acting outside of the books would not have been good and it would not have propelled him into doing even more better roles.

This is a really good interview. I've noticed that Rob contradicts himself interview to interview, perhaps he tells a few fibs here and there to avoid invasive follow up questions in more predatory environments.
He has admitted during some interviews that he tells fibs here & there, he can't help himself, but for fun, not maliciously. He said they just come out of his mouth before he realises, and he just runs with it. I'm paraphrasing, but that's basically what he said. 😂
Maybe he's just kind of introverted and nervous and isn't good in unnatural interview situations, so he kinda rambles and improvises and says things without thinking. So, even if he comes off well, he might not be saying quite what he wants to say in that moment.

Some people dislike Twilight, but Kristen gave everyone legitimate reasons to dislike her. Most people aren't fans of women who choose to cheat with their married directors. She also always had the reputation of being ungrateful, and in 2008 she called Twilight fans "retarded" on videotape. Language like that, combined with arrogance and constant swearing was a huge turn off for a lot of people. Her dropping out of 7th grade, incoherence in interviews and her habit of saying dumb things is not a plus. She's always lacked warmth and has never been able to attract an audience for her own films. People need to stop lumping Rob in with her. He's had nothing to do with her for the past 4 years, they aren't even friends any more.
