What is needed here is further research though I don't know how many early mosques there are left to find. I'm willing to bet heavily that Gibson will be vindicated and his work is about to become the new paradigm in Qibla scholarship while King and his work will be relegated to the sad list of outmoded establishment irrelevancies hopelessly defended by famous last words!

Very interesting. Academic work should be accurate, fair and reasonable on conclusions. I know some universities put a moratorium on Ph D theses for as much as 50 years. Way out of this is to write a separate book on the subject in a diplomatic way., keep it mild. Nowadays you are doing well by the youtube and short papers. Dr King's own recommended ideas for further research should be also discussed. I think on that front Mr Gibson is well ahead. I think Mr Gibson is due for an honorary Ph D.

When you can actually discuss the subject with some level of intelligibility, then you might find yourself having a decent and enlightening conversation. Until that time comes, one cannot expect you to be able to use the mind that has been given to you by the Almighty Holy Creator God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

@ your idea is not new and has been used by other Muslim apologists. It implies to me that the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are three distinct persons. An analogy is you consider three rods of steel and ask me if they are one or three. I answer in the Hill Strong's way by putting those three rods in three orthogonal directions and I have a summit of a cube. That's the product of 1 by 1 by 1. It's only an analogy. The Hindus have distinct rods of steel, millions of them. They never ever put them together in one god. Your answer put Zeus and Athena into one god. Ask the Greek mythology about it!

@@didierfavre2356 Dimensions require space (of some description) and God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) are "outside" of space and time. This particular aspect is not what you would call comprehensible to someone who is inside space and time. We can say such things, we can communicate such things, but we are not able to actually comprehend such things. That's the nature of the beast of being a finite trying to comprehend the infinite.

On one of the voyages Captain James Cook undertook, a clock was built to accurately determine his navigational position. As luck would have it, the clock broke down midway through. Cook was able to reset the clock within a second by using the stars. If that ability existed then, it would come as no surprise that long distance directions could be accurately determined.

We did talk about this. They were built facing south as a political statement. Look at the dates when they begin, not until 732 AD, when the Abbasids are coming into ascendancy against the Umayyads. Therefore, the authorities of the mosques in Spain and North Africa were waiting to see who would win out, and so, in order to not offend either power, built their Qiblas along a parallel line to a line between Petra and Mecca (facing south by south-east). Once the Abbasids took over, in 749 AD, all of the mosques in these areas then were built with their Qiblas facing directly towards Mecca.

@@Simon.the.Likeable false equivalence. Anti-Semitism has led to the persecution and slaughter of Jews, and that continues right now. There is actual data to back it up, and those who are anti-Semetic brush it off or use Islamophobia as a distraction. While people moan about the "rise of Islamophobia", there actually *is* a rise in anti-Semitism. I have seen hatred of Jews rising virulently in just the last few years, and while most of it is still coming from leftists and the same people who cry about Islamphobia and homophobia, I'm seeing a dramatic rise among those who identify as conservatives or politically on the right.

@@Simon.the.Likeable The term "anti-semite" is not a weaponized term. It is, sadly, way too accurate. The typical response to being called an anti-semite is to justify or deflect the bigotry in some way. The new weaponized terms are typically used to distract away from real discrimination and hate, including hatred of Jews. So no, it's not the precedent.

@6:44 I hesitate to Correct Jay but I do so as it proves King is wrong! Nabeteans may have been the only ones ON LAND in that region of the world to navigate the desert. But The Pulawatt Natives did it in canoes!
The Third of these "East is a Big Bird" ( the Big Bird being what we call the constellation Orion) is worth a read. It shows haw very "low level "technological societies CAN and DO develop extremely accurate ways to measure things! King is wrong! and there is a large volume of published work on this!
Literacy is apparently also not necessary for the acquisition of sophisticated conceptual structures. Neisser (1976) was one of the first to make this point. Drawing on the work of Gladwyn (1970) with the Pulawatt, Neisser pointed out that the navigational competence of this group was remarkable. With the knowledge acquired from their elders, young Pulawatt men traveled thousands of miles across uncharted stretches of ocean in small outrigger canoes and arrived precisely at their intended destination. This remarkable achievement did not appear to depend on any formal logical system of the sort that Piaget postulated or on literacy or the use of modern Western artifacts such as a compass or a map. On the other hand, it clearly did depend on the acquisition of a complex knowledge structure: one that entailed principled and sophisticated understanding of celestial movements in the region and that utilized this understanding for navigational purposes (Oatley, 1977)

A storm took some cap stones off a wall 30 years ago and when a doccumentary interviewer asked why they didnt put them back he said they dont know how to. Trying to get a crane up a 100 foot cliff is prohibitive. Like the pyramids the victorian lighthouse builders with say ten men has ways to move these blocks thst ee have forgotten.
Another point is the koran comes from an oral culture. People in oral cultures have ways of memorising eg music, metre, repitition. Once writing comes in these techniques become forgotten. The whole isnad idea is a later artefact. Preserving the story is more important in an oral culture than remembering who told it to you. But Islam puts more emphasis on chains than on what the hadith says. This is another reversal of cultural tools used.

Sir, I do love your idea. You're telling me it's possible to think outside the Piaget's box. You're allowing poetry. You're allowing creativity in the thought process. You're showing me that the human brain is more than only rational. Your observation is more important than I can't say it now. Remember a controversy that started sexual liberation! You're here on such a thing. No clear thought for the moment but the idea is great. Those people tell me it exists ways out of the present-day situation of the world.

@7 mins modern technology wasn't necessary as long as the Nabeteans had developed a culture to make accurate measurements! Just as ancient Celts did or Egyptians did for religious reasons and Pacific natives and desert travellers for trade and survival reasons.

what is happening in this, i think has happened in christian church-societies in the past centuries, when science doubted the religion, there have been warnings, killings, forced silence and massacres. Possibly it's the natural evolution of religions in time, when people advances (themselves in knowledge and technologically-archeologically) Old Religion and Rulers didn't want things to be debated, changed, overturned, because that would have been a starting point that would negatively affect them (you even see how Jesus was undermining the priests-term- of its time) and how the romans were afraid of this 'Jesus', heavy new things bring a change, a change that might overturn things heavily affecting priests and rulers (in the Vatican they know for centuries, even when the Pope used to be like an emperor, they had a state and collected taxes, decided life or death of misbelievers. Religion has a 'core' a good common 'core' common to many religions, then there are rulers of different times and places, taking the religion in hand, like a sword to use it at their own advantage, i think this is what happen after Petra, the guys down there wanted the holy site to be in their backyard, those ruling guys have kept for centuries the site, 'down there' and want to keep it down there. there is no islamophobia here, as core of islam, but rather, questioning who is keeping with energy the places, the artefacts, the control. (before was the abbassids)

hello everyone, jay, al fadi, i only have one question:
If God gave the Torah to Moses on mount sini, and Moses gave it to the people of Israel, why would he give other books to other prophets, when as a God, The God, The creator and not created, he does not make mistakes, does not need corrections, does not need to add or diduct anything from what he already said? he is God, perfection!
p.s. if Jesus was jewish, and never said to leave jewdehism, and kept jewish laws, why are christians christians and not jewish? aren't you supposed to follow your messiah?
just some points to think about, all the best, the head of the tribe of judah, the lion king, head of all the judah lions, king of israel.

Do you suggest that this is all a fake story or did Muhammad covered more than 750 km from Petra to Madinah?!!

Good question by my Gut feel says what Islam refers to as Medina it might be likely Damascus, this I say because early Caliphate that is ummayad had it's capital as Damascus, it was one of the most important centres if trade, scholars, Jews business also the John the Father of church in Damascus had refered to Muhammad.

Great research.. doesn't change Islam at all. If man has changed the qibla then all sins are on him for misleading those of faith. There needs to be a debate and clarification be sought because the Quran urges knowledge and learning seeking truth. . Islam is not at wrong here if true, people are.

@6:32 Actually the north star moves by about a half degree ( as it isnt EXACTLY at the Noirth celestial pole but over long periods of time about 25,000 years... the axis of the Earth "precessess" In 8000 years time Deneb will be the pole star/ But the change in 1400 years isn't much. And their way of calculating north would take it into account anyway to accuracy withing a few degrees. Which ironically is what they had!
It is now suggested that at some point in the distant past this cycle was determined by astronomers (A process requiring the prolonged and precise observation of the equinoxial conjunction of the rising sun and the 'suns carrier' behind). Such a discovery goes a long way to understanding the prehistoric fascination with astronomy and the apparent 'will to move mountains' exhibited by the builders of many megalithic monuments. Lockyer observed that prehistoric astronomy was started on the horizon, which would go a long way towards explaining the early development of the English structures called 'Henges', with their built-up banks creating excellent artificial horizons.
The Precessionary cycle is measured in 'months' named according to the constellation visible behind the vernal equinox sunrise. We are presently finishing the 'age of Pisces' and will be soon entering the 'age of Aquarius'. It is suggested (and supported by a growing weight of evidence), that this cycle was recognised at least as far back as the age of Taurus, although there are suggestions of recognition as far back as Leo (as represented by the Sphinx at Giza).

If you don't know where's the Qibla you can pray anyway, the caaba is only a house but God is God, even if you're a bit off direction "not intentionally" your prayers will be accepted , and the prove of that is that Muslims used to pray towards Jerusalem then God turned them towards Mecca, which is a prove that Jerusalem and Mecca are merely places and God wants you to focus on him, even if you're outside of earth you can still pray to God no matter where ever you turn your head to.

and here is someome that has a new revelation contrary to the quran. as it commands the direction of prayer to be toward the qiblah.
if allah got confused with jerusalem, and then muslims faced the nabatea.
then eventually settling on mecca a few 100 years later after mohammed, shows us that the direction was not mecca.
this should make us ask why.

@@jaredpetersen277 God wasn't confused between Mecca and Jerusalem God said to mohammad that's my house Jerusalem then Muhammad wasn't so gald about it, but he kept silent because that's a command from God , so God wanted to show him that he knows what he talk to himself even if mohammad doesn't speak, Muhammad wanted the Qibla to be towards Mecca, not Jerusalem so God honored his prophet by making his city the direction of all of the people who will follow him.
But God put that wish in mohammad's heart, and the prove is that God sent Abraham with his son to build the Caaba thousands of years before mohammad was born.

@@luckygirl1111 so allah was mohammeds genie. like aisha said, his god harkens to all his needs.
well the problem remains though that the qubla direction wasnt mecca in mohammeds time. it only became mecca after his death.
so... when did allah change his mind about the location?
also, if allah send a witness to all lands and mecca recieved the final witness, then thats wrong, because you just said allah sent abraham to build a house there.
so allah already sent a witness to the arabs and he build a sign that lasted thousands of years.
allah made another mistake in sending mohammed to them saying they never got a witness yet.

Did alah ever exist? After 18 years I believe No! Alah was a creation by Nabateans whom were slaughtered by Muhamed and his gang. The man and the book is Islam, but where is alah? Never existed. Let some Nabateans believe their god was married to two of three twin sisters al-uma and al-alat. Maybe a Deamon spoke to muhamed, choked Moe in a cave, causing Moe to try committing suicide. Never alah existed until Moe stole the idea from the same people Moe stole written language, the Nabateans :) they were great, Moe was great at slashing necks in search for prepubescent boy tongues to bless by sucking on. Moe likened to suck on female kids too, how did Moe get his first revelations from al-ah? From Aisha when she was 6yo and Moe was 56 yo
