The music video is clips from Northern Ireland during a time we Irish refer to as the troubles. It was a time of bitter fighting between the IRA and British Paratroopers to seize control of Northern Ireland. Grievous bloodshed was seen around around the time. The song is for depicting war and the loss that always accompanies conflict. A song I think you should react to Grace sang by Rod Stewart it's a cover of an Irish revolutionary who's being allowed to marry his love the night before he was executed for the part he played in obtaining independence for Ireland.

Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan 6 September 1971 - she died 15 January 2018) was an Irish musician, singer and songwriter. She was best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the alternative rock band the Cranberries. The song is about 2 incidends
    1916:
Ireland. The total 429 persons killed, 116 were Military personnel, 3 were policemen and 310 were civilians. There were 38 children - aged 16 and under - killed.
    1993
Zombie" is a protest song by Irish alternative rock band the Cranberries, written by the band's lead singer Dolores O'Riordan in memory of Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry, who were killed in the 1993 Warrington bombings. The horrific part of it was the 2 boys been killed - were a 3 and 12 year old. Jonathan Ball, three, and Tim Parry, 12, died and 54 others were hurt when two bombs hidden in litter bins went off in Bridge Street on 20 March 1993.
It us easy to talk revenge and enter a war, but the realities are horrific.

This song represents the world we grew up in, memories from my youth that I couldn’t understand.
I grew up down the road in a heavily IRA area in the south. A charmed childhood, with the backdrop of violence against my cousins up in the north, that was our norm.
In my childish innocence I didn’t fully understand. But I remember the trips up north, the weight of anxiety in our car when we were pulled over by men with machine guns. Life is so unfair, why other children lived in such horror and I did not. Our fragile Peace must be preserved at all costs.

RIP to the 2 kids. There were alot of terrible things done from both sides. I might not agree with all the things the IRA did but after 800yrs of murder rape and piliging from the British I'm thankful for the IRA. If not for them I'd be British now. If put into proper context many more Irish died in the whole of the troubles. I don't blame the ordinary everyday British person but if I'm honest I can't fathom how a a British person can look back at their history with pride. The amount of countries worldwide who do not like even hate the British. They came took over and mass murdered the indigenous people of SOOOO MANY countries. I'm really not trying to be rude or combative but the historical facts speak for themselves. I have had conversations with English people and the small few that can admit that they are looked upon as a nation of tyrants and are ashamed of what was done have an enormous amount of respect from me. Like I said the ordinary everyday person from those times can't be blamed and the ones born in recent times can't either but you would be surprised at how much healing can come from an admittance that it wasn't right and should never have happened from the ancestors is powerful and can open dialogue for even more healing.

    • @zegh8578
      @zegh8578 2 года назад +1

Sometimes it's hard to tell, since an accents tonality will disappear in the melody of the music. Vocabulary and pronounciation are definite tells though - I'm Norwegian, and our various accents are sometimes as distinct as Norwegian and Swedish, so pronounciations and vocabulary instantly reveal a regional accent, even if the tonality is obscured by the song.
Not commenting to dispute what you said, I'm not that familiar with English accents, so I'm sure you are right in your observation!
It just reminded me of when sometimes people will say an English singer "sounds American" - but that is often simply a kind of bias, in that LOTS of songs are *in* American English - and you can't really "sing in oxford" because the music and tonality will distort the accent beyond recognition anyway! (Unless a whole song goes "u wot, u wot!" that'd definitely be very English)

I have lived in Warrington UK for my entire life and listening to this song brings back a lot of painful and terrifying memories.
I was just 14 when the bus that my friends and I were on had just turned onto Bridge street approaching the town centre when the 1st bomb went off, and before we could comprehend what had happened we heard the second explosion and could clearly see the carnage unfolding.
I will never forget that day.
The Cranberries released the song Zombie in protest to the violence that had occurred that day, and it will always hold a dear place in my heart.
For Dolores O'Riordan to sing alongside the Bad Wolves in an updated cover of this song in protest of the violence which still occurs till the present day would have been amazing, and I'm whole heartedly saddened that she died before it was made possible.
This song will be forever in Warringtons heart.

My father was a drummer. He was magnificent. We are from Louisiana, where Zydeco and Cajun music is from, my dad's band was a Zydeco band and they also did covers of classic rock. When he was on stage playing, he was in his own world, his whole body moved to the beat of the song. He always said "drums are are heartbeat of the song" and I truly believe that. He was inducted into the Cajun Music Hall of Fame a few years after he passed. It was a great honor to be presented with his award.

In Ireland her "yodel" is called Keening and or Lilting. Keening has a lot do with funerals and death /funeral crying while Lilting they think was from the time when many Irish instruments were either outlawed by the english or too expensive for the Irish to have so they lilted (kind of irish version of scat singing) to make up for no instruments

I wouldn’t say it’s more powerful, I’d say each version is powerful for different reasons. The original being more specific to the IRA and Irish history as whole, and obviously being the original it means more to a lot of people. But the bad wolves cover being powerful because it’s a sad reminder that the world is still like that with the constant fighting and wars and it speaks to the world as a whole. They’re both gorgeous and powerful in their own way.

The lead singer’s name was Dolores O’Riordan. The cranberries were an Irish Rock group from Limerick. This song was released in 1994. Dolores wrote this song as an homage to Johnathan Ball and Tim Parry who were killed in 1993 Warrington Bombings and in protest to the violence.
This song also remarks about generational prejudices that started in 1916 and finally ended in 1998. This song and music video are emotionally very heavy. This song covers heavy situations, impactful lyrics, and fear provoking imagery.
    RIP Dolores O’Riorden
