Imagine being 22 years old and being the tour manager of one of the greatest rock bands ever.....basically from their start to finish...R.I.P. Richard Cole.........when i was 22 i was riding around listening to zeppelins music.. :)
I talked to him a number of times at the Log Cabin, never once asking or knowing what he did for a living. I learned of his past some years later while watching Behind the Music. He seemed like a nice chap.
Richard cole seriously fell out of favour with the group in the late 70s , out of all the people the band threw out of the circle no one when out more unceremoniously than Richard cole
They mention "The Shark Episode" briefly when they talk about the incident between the groupie and the red snapper. O.K. But what I found really funny was what happened when Led Zeppelin went to check out from that very stay at The Edgewater Inn in Seattle. Among other things that went out their hotel room windows were a couple of Motorola color TVs. Peter Grant and Mr. Cole here were settling up the band's bill when the Edgewater's manager admitted he'd always wondered what it would be like to throw a TV off the side of the hotel. Peter looked at him with a big smile and said, "Why didn't ya say so?" Then he counted another $500 in cash and insisted the manager "have one on Led Zeppelin." So, smiling like a kid on Christmas morning, the manager rolled a brand-new Motorola color TV from a storage room, took it up to the roof, and dumped it over the side of the building. He waved to the band and called out, "HEY, THANKS, GUYS!" as they were getting into their ride to the airport.
JP said to Guitar World magazine in 1993 about the book: “I’m so mad about it that I can’t even bring myself to read the whole thing. The two bits that I have read are so ridiculously false that I’m sure if I read the rest, I’d be able to sue Cole and the publishers. But it would be so painful to read that it wouldn’t be worth it.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of it is bullshit, just wanting to sell books. Was the band perfect angels, I’m sure they weren’t, but a lot of it was made up to sound more cool.
I like the end of the movie when Grant is leading them to the limo and you can see Plant's broad back and shoulders, and fit waist. Long arms and tall. You didn't wanna mess with this dude in his prime. The whole Zeppelin sphere were like pirates. So great.

I think he at least probably knew what happened, even if he didn't do the actual robbery himself, probably had someone do it for him. Or maybe with how schemy he is, he owed it to someone and told them how to get it
They trusted Cole and he looks the complete SC@M-B@G. $200,000 in CA$H in 1973....the likely people who had that kinda CA$H laying around were Mafia Boss's/Drug-Dealer's hidin' it from the Feds....... and Zeppelin.....

I mean, if they wanted their operation to run smoothly, Richard Cole and Peter Grant were the guys. By any means necessary, protect the band’s interest. Very intimidating guys in their heyday.
Back in the 1970's, you did NOT want to fuck with the Manager of Led-Zeppelin - Peter Grant, OR his second-in-command - Richard Cole. Cole was instructed by Grant to do whatever necessary in order to keep the band safe, and rolling along on schedule, and Cole did just that. Peter Grant had grown up on the mean streets, and took no shit from anyone, and Cole was his hired gun. Cole even punched Bonzo on the nose, during one of Bonham's drunken rages! Bonham later thanked Cole for it, because Bonham had previously broken his nose, and it was crooked, but after Cole broke it again - it had straightened it back! True story. I wish Cole would punch this interviewer on his nose, because he's really annoying.
Peter had Richard and the other guy (I forget his name). They say those two guys were the prototypical henchmen for Peter Grant, very tough and intimidating.
