That part about a dog’s growl reminded me of something I came across messing with wiktionary (no idea if it’s relevant or not).
I forget the full thread of thought but something to do with the constellation Orion and Telimektar and then the constellation Sirius.
Although Telimektar is named in one tale as Orion, it makes much more sense in general that Orome is Orion.
And Orome has hunting dogs, as did Orion have Canis Major ie Sirius.
It’s a messy logic, but Ingil was son of Ingwe in one version, but sent into the sky in another. In that other version, he was trapped in the sky with Telimektar.
So it’s like Telimektar + Ingil = Orome with hunting dog (Huan?) = Orion with Sirius (Dog Star).
Anyway, “Ingil” in Phillipino Tagalog means “growl/snarl” of a dog.
Like I said, very messy! But there’s some sort of connections linking them all.

I love your train of thought! Not messy at all, it's a reasonable cross-reference. Orion was a Great Hunter, as Orome was once was. I was even fooled into thinking Orion is Orome, just as the Dark Elves of Cuivienen once thought. The Dark Hunter assailed the awakening Elves of Cuivienen, masking himself as Orome, just as Orion chases the Pleiades (Elves) across the night sky.

@ lol thanks. I think there’s more crossover astronomy than generally talked about. A while back i joined a readalong of Unfinished Tales and the bit with Isildur stepping out of the river with a light at his forehead made me imagine him as Orion, but then I looked up constellations and it seemed to fit better as Bootes. Which is fun because I had been playing with the name Telcontar has ‘telco’ meaning Leg, and the Egyptians thought of Bootes as like the leg of an Ox
