The part about him talking about his lips and dark skin hurt to hear. No one should be made to feel ashamed of their natural features. I fully subscribe to this comment, especially the part about his lips and skin. It didn't just hurt, it was heartbreaking. And while I'd say the ending is bittersweet - he's still dancing alone, though I feel like there is a hint that there could be a dance partner outside of the field of view - the song is still uplifting in its total message, and in its little moments.

When I was in the 7th grade my dad died from a heart attack. I was mentally distraught and couldn't focus anymore. A week passed and I went to the winter dance with my friends. This would be the last time I ever saw them. We would be dancing or just chasing each other just like any typical middle school dance. Then abruptly, this dark cloud of depression would cast above me and I would immediately run into the restroom where I locked myself in the stall and sat on the floor sobbing grieving about my father. This wasn't only the darkest moment of my life, but being the energetic fun kid I was I had to give that energy to my friends who only wanted the best from me. I've never felt a worse pain than mental grievance and only wish the best to anybody that is reading this. Mental illness is real; age, race, circumstances don't matter. I had trouble understanding who I was or why I am who I am and I think this song made me realise that it's okay to not fit in, it's okay to take time for yourself because I think in this busy world we forget to take care of ourselves.
