The sad part is, the one that hated on him calling him the devil and shit will never listen to the actual lyrics or the full thing. They don't want or care to understand that he's actually a human being. They just click on the video, hear two seconds of it, dislike, leave, then type out 20 paragraphs on why they hate Lil Nas X. Hopefully with all of the controversy it brought some other people as well who are more understanding and ones who will actually listen to it for what it is. Yo this shit hit so different for me. Growing up closeted in a black Christian house hold was possibly one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. Knowing that my entire family would turn on me (and did turn) when I came out to them. Like what fucked up shit is that. My mom use to tell me that “being gay was just a phase, you’re goin through puberty. Pray and ask god to help you get rid of those thoughts” and I really believed that shit right up until I was 18

And this song really just makes me smile thinking about me as a Shy, Artsy, Bookworm in the 2nd grade talking about wanting to hold hands with boys to 18 year old me still doing the same.
