Revisiting this review. I’ve owned this bike for three months now, my first my big bike, bought at 380 miles as an ex Dec17 demo. I’m really enjoying it, the negatives are that it was very hard to find neutral, though with 1000 miles on the clock now, it’s getting better. The turning circle is terrible, above 70mph, the wind buffeting isn’t great. Positives, I just love riding it, it’s confidence inspiring, you’re right, there isn’t any sudden surges in power, it’s quite friendly. It’s very light and great in traffic. The seat is comfy, I personally can see everything in the mirrors. It’s nice owning a Ducati, the paint work on the tank is lovely. I miss a gear change indicator, I’m always searching for the next gear, even though I’m in 6th. I don’t really need a fuel gauge, the fuel indicator light is fine and I know I have 25-50 miles left when the light comes on. I’ll get the termi pipe in time, though no rush, I’m just enjoying my weekend rides. 😊
Timeless classic. Always liked the idea of owning one.. It looks and sounds exactly what my boyhood vision of a proper bike - none of that has worn off!
Had one as a loaner for a few days ... thought it was great at first but found my tailbone sore after 30miles and the gearbox became very clunky when hot. Had issues getting out of first gear and couldn't get neutral until it cooled down. If I had paid for one, I would be very disappointed
learned to ride and did my test on this one, always wanted one again, its nice and low, comfortable and has an old school feel about it. I like the air cooled as it has character
Probably resetting the odometer would be more reliable than any kind of fuel gauge you can economically fit to a bike with that would be accurate +/-50 miles!
The engine is bloody brilliant, I know that much. My dad owns a Desert Sled, which is the same engine (not too sure if they're in the same state of tune though), and being 70-odd brake, it's just got bags of character and it's just so much fun
I've always liked the monster series but they've gotten by me in recent years. I think it's time to have another look. Now I have another fine ride on my list as I seek a new one out. So many great bike's these days it's so difficult to make a choice. Price point on this one gets a gold star. Thanks for another top notch review
Another great review, considered one myself when returning to riding after a long break. Keep them coming TMF, always worth a look to get a vicarious biking fix until the weather improves down here.
Don't like the assymetric rear shock - ie off to one side. Doesn't feel right from an engineering standpoint either, could get some eccentric loading. And as for no fuel gauge...unforgiveable
I found it too small for me at 6ft tall. Liked the sv650 more to ride and it has a fuel gauge and a gear position indicator. Liked it so much I bought one new.
It has about the same power numbers as my old 2001 Monster 900 ie... not bad power considering it’s the entry level for Ducati. Thanks for another informative review
Good to see you back on two wheels ol' cobber! I've changed my name, just got rid of "The". When I went looking at the monster range, I too was impressed at the fit and finish of the entry level bike. I actually rode the 821 along side the 1200, and was impressed how powerful it was against the 1200. The bigger one just had more torque, although the 821 sounded raspier, a little more angrier. Mr Flyer when you ride one of the 1200's, do go for the Ohlins fork bike. Either the S or the R model. The setup is sublime, a bit like that MT10SP you liked a lot. I end up dropping the MT10SP purchase, as I can only fit 2 bikes in my garage :-(. The second will have to be the GS after I get rid of the RR. I got the monster R in the end. Your gonna luv the bigger brothers. They can cruise nicely like a small bike with a small engine, as if they dont have power, nice and cruisey, and when you flick the throttle, they become sport bikes. This is what I loved about the Monster. Not to say that the MT10SP was also sublime to handle through the twisties. Gosh I love Ohlins kit!!! Keep groovin groover ;-)
Great review as always. Now you know why this bike is on my Re-entry shortlist, along with the MT09 and the Street Triple. No doubt the 1200 Monster is a real machine as evidenced by the G Man!! Cold, cold day to be out though! All the best,
I'm thinking of buying a new 2017 my local dealer has for a very good price. I ride Harleys and have an Electra glide and a Night train currently, but have always wanted a Ducati. I think your video has helped make up my mind. I'm going to do it! Thank you sir.
Another great 👍 TMF review, would love to see you do a review of the next model up the Monster 821. Maybe ask the boys at On Yer Bike to borrow one for a review if possible. Great stuff......
Luckily for me Ducati UK are happy to loan me bikes + I have another friendly dealer that is more than happy to let me have a go....so stay tuned! (so many bikes, so little time)
Re no fuel guage, the User Manual mentions - Partial fuel reserve counter (TRIP FUEL) The fuel trip meter counts and displays the distance covered by the motorcycle on reserve (since the lowfuel light turns on) with the set unit of measurement(km or mi)... Better than nothing perhaps ?
Great review mate. That unbelievable sound of a Ducati Twin. The Monsters are an incredibly easy bike to ride. I have a 2014 Streetfighter 848 and it’s an extremely aggressive machine that takes some getting used to. My other ride is the S1000XR and that’s just a little too perfect for my liking . Cheers mate
Personally I would trade a fuel gauge for a proper gear indicator. Trip meters it's all I need to monitor(guesstimate) fuel consumption. Good work, Mr. Flyer !
No one ever teaches people how to adjust mirrors. Cars, bikes, whatever, they should be set WIDE. They are not rearview mirrors. They are there to let you know if someone is beside you before you decide to change lanes. If you see your shoulders, they aren't properly adjusted. I realize that on bikes we have no rearview and we tend to want to use them for that. Perhaps use the left one more for that as it's easier to head check on the side you can let of of the bar. Thing is, sometimes there isn't time to be swinging your head around. Better to have the mirrors set properly. They usually have adjustments down by the handlebar too. If you need to check for someone you've left behind, you can always lean over a bit to see what's behind you.
Never been stopped at a set of lights? That's when I like to see what's coming up behind me. I'd rather shoulder check when I'm changing lanes than sit looking rearwards the entire time I'm at a traffic signal watching for a driver who is texting as they pull up to a set of lights.
Yeah, but when I am, I'm over to the side of the vehicle in front of me so I can boogie around if someone is approaching fast. Also, when I'm stopped, I can turn the bars a bit to get a good look behind me if needed. My bikes actually have mirrors set out far enough and are large enough that they can capture a good view of the sides and back. Sportbikes are notorious for being small and in close, but the riders should be aiming them out to the sides, not at their arms. Then again, I see women aiming their rearview mirror at their lips to apply makeup on their way to work. I'm just telling you how they were designed to be used. Like many functions of human made contraptions; nobody knows or cares. For instance, did you know that the little cups to put ketchup in at the fast food joint weren't designed to be used as cups? The reason they're crinkled is so they can be unsprung and laid flat once you get them back to the table. Much easier to dip like that.
Yup. It is a no nonsense fun bike. It may be priced at a premium, but the components and design make up for it. Also as much as anyone denies the brand 'Ducati' holds something special for an enthusiasts heart.
hey i previously rode crutch rockets then harleys, now looking to get a nice bike for around the city ..maybe odd ride out some country roads. Im 6'1" 220 . Just want something nice that still pulls as hard as a 96" Harley that gets me from point a to b fun and comfortable. Would you say it would be what I'm looking for ???
For reference I am 6'1" and 205. I find the riding position less aggressive than something like a street triple (and less cramped). Being a twin you will not miss the low end torque as much. I would say give it a try.
Nice one TMF, another great little review. If any a bike needed a tail tidy, that Duke is the one. I found it quite comical when you moved infront of the sun, could see your notes in the shadow, i thought you had all the specs in your head mate ;)
It' surprising how trends change back in the mid 80's i thought i was the dogs danglies on my cbx 550 and this Duke is considered entry level , amazes me i must say.
Is the 797 no longer available Andy? Love all your stuff by the way. I think you’re a great all rounder. Nice travel vlogs and spot on for bike reviews.
Nice review of a great looking and great sounding bike. I looked at the Monsters and the Street Triple a few weeks back. Waiting for the weather to cooperate so I can test them out. I'm leaning towards the Triumph though.
The mirror thing makes sense. It's an Italian bike, the mirrors are for looking at yourself. You don't need them to see behind you because you'll be going faster than everyone else anyway.
I can’t believe you’ve not don’t the whole Ducati range being an owner & all. Something to go at in 2018 perhaps. Careful at the tennis club, they could have you ‘birched’ for that sort of behaviour! Great review as always and congrats for keeping it upright ;)
Spot on about the riding position, I too had one of these when my Monster 821 was being serviced. The 821 riding position and comfort is the same. Great bikes for just riding. A few things have been improved on the new models for 2018 not massively but Ducati has listened to feedback and acted upon it. Look forward to seeing a review of the 2018 Monster 821?
Back in the saddle TMF, well done!! Another great review as always!!. Do you find On Yer Bike good for servicing?? Side note when I binned my Blade (diesel on a roundabout) and broke my ribs the only person who stopped and helped me was a White Van Man. ;-)
Thanks TMF for the reply feedback. On another note looking into reviews about Arai Tour X4 and found this....however you may already know? Scrolling down and yours truly appears!!! :-)))) billyscrashhelmets.co.uk/arai-tour-x4-adventure-motorcycle-crash-helmet-review/
Sure, it's not a desmosedici, but does everything have to have mega power and the most expensive components to be of any use or fun? Surely not. Imo this is the perfect bike for doing a bit of posing (hey, it's a ducati and that's what they're for!), riding to have a cup of coffee or just enjoying some twisties at a non-threatening speed. So, a feel-good bike. Love it!
The price difference between the white and the red can usually be explained by the red not having a coat of lacquer over it, while the other colours do.... one of those lovely Italian quirks! Speaking of Monsters in general; if you liked that one, you’d love my black 1200r 😎
Another great review video!! Thanks so much. Would you be willing to do some gear reviews? Things like what you are useing during your reviews/ Gloves, Jacket, Pants, Boots etc. How well they work in the temps, rain protection etc. Thanks again.
Great review as usual TMF. You are the gift that keeps on giving! Beautiful bike, but would love to hear your thoughts comparing it with the Suzuki SV650. Much less money, same power, Characterful V twin, and has both fuel gauge and gear indicator. Well done again sir.
I've had 3 Monsters (620, 695, and 1100S), and they were all great, and I hope to own one again in the future (my current naked is a Street Triple), but despite that, can I get in my usual gripe about lack of clear coat? It's inconsistent, but basically, as with the Panigales, only the top end of the range comes with clear coat on the red paintwork.
The Monster range seems to have been a little neglected of late for updating etc. Be great if you could get a ride on the new HUSQVARNA range,VITPILEN 701 and smaller 401's hats of for cool radical styling!
Good review! This is my second bike after Honda cb500f (wanted to learn on something not intimidating). I’m used to 797 now and it’s a fantastic machine for around town. I’m 6ft 1 and fat lol. The bike is only cramped for me to if I try to tuck in and hang off the bike in corner, otherwise it’s fine for me personally. Neutral sucks lol. Oh and I am THAT person that bought the white one lol. Every Ducati is red, I wanted to differentiate a little bit. I’m happy with white
I'm obviously not familiar with English road rules, but I've noticed quite a few, what I can only call, pinching points in the road. Like the sidewalk extends into either side of the road. What would be the purpose of that when you already have smallish roads?
never had a ducati, would love one, would have to be in red, would spoil it to death polishing it, that and the sound, would love it. anyway, with or without a ducati, can't wait until spring to get out on the bike, my son has a ktm 390, be good to get out with him for the first time and grand tour of Scotland planned with two mates, whatever bike you all have just get out there and live life all the best to the Missenden flyer and all who inspire us
Great review, thank you and have subscribed but can any 797 owner advise how if fairs for motorway riding, cruising speed and tank range? If anyone has taken into Europe, how did it fair over there? What’s your long term view of the bike?
Great review as always Mr Flyer. was interesting as well on the heated gloves you were wearing. Checked out the vlog on the Weiss gloves and noticed the padded?puffa? Jacket that you had on. Do you know the make and model of the jacket as it would make a great summer jacket for the trike I ride. Thanks in anticipation and keep on producing the quality vlogs you're turning out. Best regards. Alan
I have so many of your videos to catch up on. I have been promoted by the r9t review a personal favourite of mine so I better get a move on. Ps I love my white transit van it's the best motor on 4 wheels.
TMF, four things required for a UK based motorcycle. 1) Proper mudguard, this one here is non-existent. 2) Heated grips. 3)Back-lit switch gear.4) Fuel gauge. Cheers. A82 Joe.
I view that exact bike the throwback 'spirit' cousin to the older generations of the Triumph Street Triple; with the Triumph Street Triple being more 'sport' and the Monster more 'comfort' as it is. I love the looks of the Monster range but style and design have not ever an issue for Ducati.
Guessing you still wouldn't swop the Street Triple for one? When I see white frost and snow on the side of the road I'm afraid it completely removes the joy of riding a motorcycle.
I had a test of one today in my quest for my first big bike, thought I would revisit this review. I enjoyed it, stalled the bike first go, though got used to it. I found it very torquey, more so than the MT07. The bike definitely has character. The orange fuel light came on and so I only had 15 miles left in the tank. It’s annoying not having a fuel gauge, though I didn’t miss the gear indicator too much. 😊
TheMissendenFlyer still in the early stages, I have a test ride booking for the new MT07 this month and I’m going to get a ride on the GSX-S750 which I like the look of. The Ducati was nice, finding neutral wasn’t easy though. I’ll report back! 😊
TheMissendenFlyer I had a chat with the guys in BMW Park Lane yesterday as well and they said I could test ride the F800R. I went down to look at the bike, not sure on that one. I noticed you reviewed that bike way back in 2014!
Great sounding bike but for that price you should have a fuel gauge and gear indicator. While I love Ducati I’d opt for the MT07, similar specs, includes a fuel gauge and gear indicator and is less expensive.
I had one of the original Monsters which do have a stiff clutch lever but recently test rode one of the 800 monster variants and it was much lighter and the engine was certainly improved at low revs - less chugging around town - but I always throught such a bike was wasted in town and really for open country roads anyway!
Does the little fairing surrounding the instrument panel offer any bit of protection? Does it deflect the wind? I'm considering getting a monster for commuting but the winters in Perth Australia can get cold, windy and wet too and the thought of commuting daily on a naked bike in winter makes me somewhat hesitant. At the other end of the scale, the summers can get very hot here and I'm not sure how the air-cooled engine would survive commuting through congested traffic. What are your thoughts on these please? Thanks matey.
I’ll get the termi pipe in time, though no rush, I’m just enjoying my weekend rides. 😊
Thanks for the feedback Richard!
Interesting. My name is also Richard and your comments reflect my experience.
Timeless classic. Always liked the idea of owning one.. It looks and sounds exactly what my boyhood vision of a proper bike - none of that has worn off!
I agree!
Really did enjoy my old monster, except when it didn't start, which was quite often
I used to have the 796 with twin Termis. Oh, I loved the sound of that beast. I am now considering buying the 797 or the 821.
Agreed - I really enjoyed this bike....
I think the heating problem is not there since you are in such a cold country. Here the air cooling makes grilled chicken on the inner thighs.
I suspect you're right - any heating hear in the UK is a bonus! Great to hear from you again matey - hope all is well?
TheMissendenFlyer yeah everything is well, was kind of caught up with work.. .
Awesome bike. I bought mine in january and use it on the road and on the race track. A lot of bang for the buck.
You do the best reviews! 👌🏼 Even going out when there’s ice around lol wow.
Cheers Dave!
Could you review the 821 please? Thanks very much.
Shantanu1 Ogale1 +1 on that request. Also, if you do review the 821, please can you elaborate on why it wouldn’t make a good entry into Ducati?
I've always liked the monster series but they've gotten by me in recent years. I think it's time to have another look. Now I have another fine ride on my list as I seek a new one out. So many great bike's these days it's so difficult to make a choice. Price point on this one gets a gold star. Thanks for another top notch review
You’re very welcome - thanks for watching and for stopping by - TMF
Yeeeesss Finally. Got mine last year and I love it !
Any update brother ??
@@byrek8975 No issues what so ever. Have 17.000 KM on her with no Problem at all. She is now 4 years Old. I am still in Love with it
stock rear shock preload and rebound damping adjustable.
Hi mate, I brought that bike on Monday glad you looked after it.
Really!? What a great coincidence....and a lovely bike you have there....did you get a good deal on it?
Yeah.....and it sounds great with that pipe on it . I got quite a good deal on it after a bit of haggling.
All the best
mark bright what price did you get it
Another great review, considered one myself when returning to riding after a long break. Keep them coming TMF, always worth a look to get a vicarious biking fix until the weather improves down here.

Must admit I have secretly always wanted to ride a Monster! 1200 yes please!
I hope I’ll get a go on one of the bigger monsters in due course - stay tuned!
Good to see you back in the saddle 😎🖒
Was there ever any doubt?
It has about the same power numbers as my old 2001 Monster 900 ie... not bad power considering it’s the entry level for Ducati. Thanks for another informative review
Nice, sounds like a very underrated Ducati
Agreed

Very nice bike and it’s sound is a pleasant symphony
As always TMF another great unbiased balance review of a great bike. It certainly did look a bit chilly out there!
Ride safe matey.
Regards
David
Thanks David...
Any review that starts with popping like that is a good review in my book!! :)
Yes cool that isn't it......
USB power socket provided but no fuel gauge. Definitely wrong priorities Ducati.
Maybe it's sprezzatura since it's Italian and all that...
its funny how they have lean angle sensors, multiple levels of traction control and multiple anti wheelie settings. But don't put petrol gauges .....
You have a trip meter and a yellow reserve light though.
T Kaakko munnezza
Bilal Khalid you are so spoiled young man! Better ill give you a spanking in the bum.
(so many bikes, so little time)
Helpful video again I rode one last year my first ever ride on a Ducati I was impressed I was also offered one for £6995 with hardly any miles on it
Sounds like a bargain to me! Thanks for watching.....TMF
Another cracking review and kicked me up the arse to get out on one of my bikes today now the sun is shining 😎
Got to be done - I'm off out for a lunchtime ride shortly......
True...marginally so!
Interesting to hear 797 as an introductory size, was a very good looking thing.
Yes I know, silly really isn't it - 800cc hardly a small bike!
Cheers mate

Stunning indeed - both the bike and the day!
Agreed....
Personally I would trade a fuel gauge for a proper gear indicator. Trip meters it's all I need to monitor(guesstimate) fuel consumption.
Good work, Mr. Flyer !

I have been waiting for this review for soooo long. Thank you for the review.
PS: I bought it.
Nice one - do you agree with my assessment?
Yup. It is a no nonsense fun bike. It may be priced at a premium, but the components and design make up for it. Also as much as anyone denies the brand 'Ducati' holds something special for an enthusiasts heart.

Doesn't it just!
I'm not normally a ducati man but if someone offered me a go on one I wouldn't turn them down
Great conversation with us as usual!
Thanks
Nice one TMF, another great little review. If any a bike needed a tail tidy, that Duke is the one. I found it quite comical when you moved infront of the sun, could see your notes in the shadow, i thought you had all the specs in your head mate ;)
Bother - I’ve been rumbled! (I saw that too when I did the editing, no option to reshoot!!)

Strange Fruit and dodgy camchain tensioners if my memory serves me.
Strange Fruit Never owned one, but had blast on my mates (red/white) it was like a bloody missile.
I am happy that U kept the rubber down on this ride!
So am I! Same roads too....and THAT corner...
Terrific ride along. Very informative. Thank you!
Thank you for watching Daniel....
I was getting worried no white vans. 😳
14:21 - left side of the road.
Cool vid again, I`ve had 1100 Multistrada (in white LoL) Ducati main issue is the servicing cost £££££££££££££££££££££3
Is the 797 no longer available Andy? Love all your stuff by the way. I think you’re a great all rounder. Nice travel vlogs and spot on for bike reviews.
Nice to see you back on 2 wheels after the Zero slide.
Thanks...
You are a phenomenal reviewer...
Crikey! Thanks....
I am deeply confused by the traffic patterns there!
Nice review of a great looking and great sounding bike. I looked at the Monsters and the Street Triple a few weeks back. Waiting for the weather to cooperate so I can test them out. I'm leaning towards the Triumph though.

Cheeky.....
Great review! Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
EekaMouse hello, are the bikes the same physically the Same size?
Back in the saddle TMF, well done!! Another great review as always!!. Do you find On Yer Bike good for servicing??
Side note when I binned my Blade (diesel on a roundabout) and broke my ribs the only person who stopped and helped me was a White Van Man. ;-)
They seem OK - pricey though....
Thanks TMF for the reply feedback.
On another note looking into reviews about Arai Tour X4 and found this....however you may already know? Scrolling down and yours truly appears!!! :-)))) billyscrashhelmets.co.uk/arai-tour-x4-adventure-motorcycle-crash-helmet-review/
Test ride booked for Thursday.
Enjoy....
Hello... it's 2018... a fuel gauge please
Agreed.....
Love it!
Agreed!
The price difference between the white and the red can usually be explained by the red not having a coat of lacquer over it, while the other colours do.... one of those lovely Italian quirks!
Speaking of Monsters in general; if you liked that one, you’d love my black 1200r 😎
I would indeed!
Another great review video!! Thanks so much. Would you be willing to do some gear reviews? Things like what you are useing during your reviews/ Gloves, Jacket, Pants, Boots etc. How well they work in the temps, rain protection etc. Thanks again.
Check out my Product Reviews playlist - I tend to store my kit reviews there...
How does this compare to MT07 or CB650R in terms of power, handling and comfort. I would imaging the MT07 feels quicker?
Thanks for another review!
I'm currently thinking about trading in my Ninja 650 for a (used) 1290 superduke. But it's still a bit expensive.
Great review as usual TMF. You are the gift that keeps on giving! Beautiful bike, but would love to hear your thoughts comparing it with the Suzuki SV650. Much less money, same power, Characterful V twin, and has both fuel gauge and gear indicator. Well done again sir.
Funnily enough I have been in touch with Suzuki UK about that only yesterday....stay tuned!
I’m split between this and a 2018 Kawasaki ninja 650 for my second bike. What do you guys recommend
Great review! 👌
You can carry a passenger too. The little red bit on the back comes off for the pillion....Sal : )
Not sure I'd fancy it though would you?!
No, I'd be driving!
What is that all about! Rubbish isn't it......
The Monster range seems to have been a little neglected of late for updating etc. Be great if you could get a ride on the new HUSQVARNA range,VITPILEN 701 and smaller 401's hats of for cool radical styling!
Yes the Husky chaps have been in touch, I'm hoping to get a go on those in the warmer weather...
Would love to own a Ducati but always worried about cost of maintenance or expensive problems when buying second hand.
Fair enough - thanks for watching - TMF
Good review! This is my second bike after Honda cb500f (wanted to learn on something not intimidating). I’m used to 797 now and it’s a fantastic machine for around town. I’m 6ft 1 and fat lol. The bike is only cramped for me to if I try to tuck in and hang off the bike in corner, otherwise it’s fine for me personally. Neutral sucks lol.
Oh and I am THAT person that bought the white one lol. Every Ducati is red, I wanted to differentiate a little bit. I’m happy with white
Good call Evan be a wolf not a sheep!
That’s right!
I'm obviously not familiar with English road rules, but I've noticed quite a few, what I can only call, pinching points in the road. Like the sidewalk extends into either side of the road. What would be the purpose of that when you already have smallish roads?
Beats me!
never had a ducati, would love one, would have to be in red, would spoil it to death polishing it, that and the sound, would love it. anyway, with or without a ducati, can't wait until spring to get out on the bike, my son has a ktm 390, be good to get out with him for the first time and grand tour of Scotland planned with two mates, whatever bike you all have just get out there and live life all the best to the Missenden flyer and all who inspire us
Cheers Malcolm!
Really surprised they didn't change to the new style like they did for the 821 and 1200, they were a few months behind
New style what?
The monster 821 and 1200
as in, they were late in doing so, should've been more clear.
Alan
It was just a cheapo one called "Blend" - probably from TKMax or somewhere similar...
TheMissendenFlyer thanks for the reply much appreciated. Keep up the great work Rsmf Alan
Nice review. Out of interest what is the battery life on the heated gloves. Long enough for a day in the saddle ?
I wish! On low setting I currently get about two hours ride time....
Nice Ride / Review :)
It’s an awesome package for those narrow roads, and the Termi sounds sweet!
RSMF
Don't they just :0) Good to hear from you again - it's been a while!
Hi I always enjoy your videos, have you tested the Moto Guzzi V7111? Going to arrange a test ride myself in the new year. Cheers.
No I don’t think I have....
I have so many of your videos to catch up on. I have been promoted by the r9t review a personal favourite of mine so I better get a move on. Ps I love my white transit van it's the best motor on 4 wheels.
...actually I'd love a van myself!
TMF, four things required for a UK based motorcycle. 1) Proper mudguard, this one here is non-existent. 2) Heated grips. 3)Back-lit switch gear.4) Fuel gauge. Cheers. A82 Joe.
Can't disagree with that Joe....
I view that exact bike the throwback 'spirit' cousin to the older generations of the Triumph Street Triple; with the Triumph Street Triple being more 'sport' and the Monster more 'comfort' as it is. I love the looks of the Monster range but style and design have not ever an issue for Ducati.
Very true sir....
Where do you get that sunshine from. Here in Denmark we haven't seen the sun in 9 weeks.
Oh dear, sorry about that, sun is shining now as it happens....
Had this bike for about a year. Pretty much everything was great but the suspension, it was just too harsh of a ride.
Great little review as usual; if you get the chance to try the Monster 821 then it would be a very interesting comparison. Cheers.
Yes would love too - and the 1200 :0) Stay tuned....
Guessing you still wouldn't swop the Street Triple for one? When I see white frost and snow on the side of the road I'm afraid it completely removes the joy of riding a motorcycle.
Banditmanuk
watch "the crumble vs the beast"
:-)
C G seen it, fun watch. If you look at my Excel Show vid I do ride sub zero, just don't enjoy it much
I had a test of one today in my quest for my first big bike, thought I would revisit this review. 😊
Nice one Richard, so what's the leading candidate currently?
TheMissendenFlyer still in the early stages, I have a test ride booking for the new MT07 this month and I’m going to get a ride on the GSX-S750 which I like the look of. The Ducati was nice, finding neutral wasn’t easy though. I’ll report back! 😊
TheMissendenFlyer I had a chat with the guys in BMW Park Lane yesterday as well and they said I could test ride the F800R. I went down to look at the bike, not sure on that one. I noticed you reviewed that bike way back in 2014!
Yes, nothing special was my abiding memory! Looking forward to the new F850GS...
@@richardcollins586 which did you prefer this or MT07? I would imagine the MT07 felt quicker?
Nice review (as always)...how would you say this compares to the KTM 690 Duke ?? Thanks.
Very favourably!
Great sounding bike but for that price you should have a fuel gauge and gear indicator. While I love Ducati I’d opt for the MT07, similar specs, includes a fuel gauge and gear indicator and is less expensive.
A point a few people have made.....I think I'd still take the monster though....
Nice review TMF. Does the Monster have the same thin paint issue you referred to on the Panigale?
I don't honestly know....great question!
Entry level here in Australia is the 659.
Lovely bike, but as an entry level bike must have the fuel gauge and gear position indicator ...
Hi, great review! What is the clutch leaver like? Stiff like Ducatis of old? Thank you
Didn't notice it being too stiff no....
I had one of the original Monsters which do have a stiff clutch lever but recently test rode one of the 800 monster variants and it was much lighter and the engine was certainly improved at low revs - less chugging around town - but I always throught such a bike was wasted in town and really for open country roads anyway!
Would love to see you review the 2021 Monster :)
Me too!
please do the 1200s. would love to know your thoughts on that.
Will see what I an do in the Summer....
Great bike, any thoughts on how it compares to the Ducati 800 Scrambler? For me I wouldn't need anything bigger.
I prefer this to the Scrambler, a bit less "toy like" to my mind....
Yes I imagine this would run a little hot in congested commuting....but I don't actually know.
Nice one Flyer, Never really thought about monsters, useable day to day Ducati sounds & looks good. No fuel gauge, but does it have a reserve tap.
....does it indeed! I didn't know that....
