Hello, I'm the owner of the Cobra. I would like to thank Brenspeed for the quality work they performed. Very knowledgable staff, and talented technicians. They handled the entire project from start to finish with exceptional professionalism and care. This is a great company to do business with, and I hope the enthusiast community continues to support them. Thank you Brenspeed!
I you don't mind me asking how mild are the cams? I had Comp 106100s in my MACh1 and did not like them. My car is pretty close to yours with SLP long tubes, 4.10s, UDs, etc. I know I was making no where near what you are. Thanks
@@mikedolley937 fairly mild - still using stock springs and valves. Mild lope at idle. They were ordered through Todd Warren aka NASVT on the forums. Easy guy to work with, and very knowledgeable.
Agreed. Technically "better" than prior yrs/generations. I think its inappropriately overshadowed by the terminator but the terminator also sells at a completely different price point making the comparison apples:oranges.
Awesome. NA 4 valve modular. Let’s port the manifold, add a spacer, some ported heads. These cars are awesome with NA mods. Had a Mach 1 with intake pipe, x pipe and no cats, Magnaflows, tune, aluminum driveshaft. Before I did the 4.10’s, it dynoed 310/324 at the wheels. Would’ve been fun to do ported heads, cams, ported intake, and a 5.3 stroker with a T56 swap.
Thats insanely low. I ran a 2v in my racecar and made 402 before hooking up the charge pipe. Im building another for my old work truck and im throwing the engine out if it doesnt hit 700 with 7- 10 lbs. Hope yall got it sorted out tho. You happen to have any of the ol 2v heads laying around? Dropped valve gudes in my last set and been on the hunt? Life of a 2v i guess
This was great exactly what I was wanting to see thanks man for doing this especially after I had asked earlier to maybe see something like this Brenspeed loyal customer all day everyday 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thx for showing love to the older stangs Brent! Gonna pick your brain a bit. Beside the forged internals of an 03/04 cobra Which engine do you like best out of the 4vs and 3v cars? Seems 3vs make a little more NA and make more power with 9lbs of boost vs a 4v even a Terminator until you really start pumping boost. Is it the 3vs compression and head design? Thanks like always
Theyre actually pretty close to what 4v mach 1s do. Both of em fbo can do 320-330 to the tires. Once you throw in a good set of cams (more aggressive than the ones in the video) they really make good power ecspecially with the 03-04 mach1 and cobra style c head. Ive seen cammed machs doing 380+ with just fbo besides the cams. I beleive they have the edge on 3v cars once you start really modding them like cams and stuff problem is there is more aftermarket available for 3vs they got aftermarket intakes and heads and you dont see that with 4vs. If you have a ported short runner intake and healthy cams a mach can get into the upper 300z at the wheels with stock heads. I dont think a 3v can best that it might compete with that but bettering it idk. The 3v has variable cam timing doesnt it or something similar? It has a little more tech in it helping it to make the power it does. Compression is also higher than an 03 cobra (you made that comparo) but with the mach it had 10:1 ive seen them make 450 rwhp on 6 psi with a pro charger and full exhaust. Again i dont think a 3v is besting that lol. Just sayin.
I have a 1999 cobra with 80k miles. Current mods consist of BBK long tubes, catted BBK x pipe to series 40 flowmasters. I want to add a JLT cold air, underdrive pulleys, and an aggressive sounding and performing cam. I just don’t know what cam that would be, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thinking I’m going to keep the car N/A and run some 4.10’s as well later on
If a follower has some wear marks and the cam is new it is possible, although not likely, you will get that whistle. I have only seen that happen when you have a new cams mated to a follower that his micro small scrapes in it. It is rare, but I have seen that.

so I have a 2001 stage 2 roush mustang, and roush did a cai and mufflers for performance, but I’m adding longtube headers soon so I got the rev-x sct tuner and I’m curious how I get the custom tune for the longtubes and cai now?
Hey Brent, this question is unrelated to the video but for 3v mustangs what’s the most hp capable supercharger (paxton, Roush, whipple, etc.) and no porting either just on a cammed maybe rods and pistons 3v which blower is capable of producing the most power ?
If we are just talking rwhp a Paxton novi 2200 would be the more capable of the 3 you chose if you had a built engine and went max boost. Next Roush, last Whipple.
I have one identical to this, same year with a Mccleod clutch, I got it with this clutch in it about a month ago. Is it normal for that clutch to be EXTREMELY stiff on the pedal? The clutch pedal in my Cobra is like 4 times stiffer than the pedal in my semi, I don't like it at all lol I want to swap it back to stock if it's normal for that clutch!
If you have a twin disk it should be lighter or the same as stock. If you have a single disk it could be heavier depending on which one. I only use twin disks to avoid the heavy pedal I like the stock clutch feeling not a hard pedal.
@@BrenspeedEngineering must be a single cause its stupid stiff, like something may be wrong with it lol I'm not a fan, it's gonna tear my knee up. I ain't a big fan of working on cars like this with everything crammed into them lol probably gonna take it somewhere and have the clutch looked at. It has a vibration in it too like maybe the pressure plate wasn't tightened down evenly or something, I dunno. It's a fun car, just gotta get them couple bugs worked out of it. Where are yall located?
I have a McLeod street level clutch in my 2v and it is a bit on the stiffer side. The problem I have with the McLeod clutch is the thing wants me to shift at 2,800 rpm or else the thing chatters (with stock clutch I shifted at 2,200-2,500 normal driving). My tuner said it’s just the nature of a McLeod clutch. I too am looking to replace it soon.
Hi there. I have a 01 zinc yellow cobra hard top. Ordered it brand new in feb 2001. All stock except for battery and tires. 82k and never seen rain, sno, salt, body shop and garage kept. Clutch is worse that my 6spd RAM diesel. Rear diff has a thump when I stick it in 1st from neutral at a stop light. Been that way since day 1. Let's compare cars?
@paulramsey8187 mine does that too! Sounds like some bushings worn out in the rear end or something maybe, I dunno. I might have a bad U joint too, thought maybe that could be it as well
Yes and no. Mostly No because the terminators have forged internals that can handle stupid amounts of power (around 700-800whp). The 01's will actually make a little more power per pound of boost due to a slightly higher compression but can NOT handle anywhere near as much as a terminator. You can make about 450whp safely, but that's the max limit.
Exactly what Chris Hernandez said, except that 03 04 cobras can handle 900whp on stock internals. There's a guy on RUclips making +900whp on stock internals with Todd Warren cams.
I am in the process of putting together an Eaton swap for my ‘99 Cobra. Would you tune it after I install it? I am right down the road in Elkhart. Do you come to Elkhart or Goshen ever? Because you look very familiar. I know the guy with the yellow gt500 with silver stripes, from a previous video I believe.
Hi thanks for the comment. For at least 3 or 4 years our dyno has been fully booked weekly on cars we build in house so it does not have openings to tune cars not built in our shop. Sorry about that! Yes you may have ran into Brent in Goshen or Elkhart or at OC drag strip.
The underdrive pulleys on these cars is actually a bad idea. Many of them have attributed to oil pump gear failures over the years and they're only worth a few HP. Beautiful car though I love my 01 cobra.
