After Elon Musk, I can’t think of any CEO that has impressed me more than Jim Farley. Very candid and smart. He even dared to say Tesla, unlike Barra from GM. It almost reminded me of “he who must not be named” from Harry Potter, where Jim simply dares.

GM will never be an EV leader with Mary Barra at the helm. She is not credible one iota, and neither are GM's EV vehicles. Making super-expensive EV's for the top 1% is a slap in the face for every average working American. Who needs overweight Hummers and Cadillac's? They won't do one thing to appreciably assist finding an answer to the climate change problem. Citizens should be locking up these people and corporations not praising them. I appreciate the rc Tonka toy truck but it's a far cry from what they should be doing for us 🇺🇸

@@HydrogenFuelTechnologies Nonsense. The batteries that make the current generation of EVs possible didnt even exist THEORETICALLY until the 1970s, and didnt become commercially available until the 1990s, and didnt become energy-dense enough or stable enough until the early 2000s. Not long after those became available, Martin Eberhard infamously approached AC Propulsion with the idea and the funding to put them into the tZero sports car EV concept. When they decided not to commercialize it, he went on to found Tesla.
There is no alternative universe where that would have happened faster. There may be an alternative universe where we still have electric street cars in the US or one where GMs EV1 went into full production... but lead-acid powered EVs were simply LITERALLY not able to keep up with ICE powered vehicles for most of those 100 years.

The answer they provide will tell us if they are really taking this transition seriously, but more importantly, if they have the right STRATEGY to do so. Jim's answer IMO was good - he seems to understand why EVs are so game changing. It's not the propulsion - it's everything else that you can do with an EV and the benefits they bring. It's the TRUE differentiation between their existing line up, and the next generation. Great to see it.

He was charging on an EA station and said that half of the EA stations there were down. All the Tesla chargers working fine. And Tesla is adding what looks like another 50 chargers at the site. I feel that Ford has to talk to Tesla and be able to charge on the Tesla system. They are adding massive supercharging stations along the interstates. You don't have to find a Walmart to charge. Jim Farley should take a road trip in a Tesla and have his eyes opened. A bad charging experience might kill the truck.

I think you hit it on the head. I have a model 3 and I like to think I’m not a Tesla fanboy. I do like the car and it’s great for what it does. My dad is older (72) and decided to go electric. He bought a bmw i4 and decided to pick it up in North Carolina and drive it back to Florida. He helped me pick up my Tesla in Ohio and drive it back and we didn’t encounter a single problem. That was a huge mistake on his part. He wanted to sell the car the second he got home. He almost ran out of charge and couldn’t get the charging working at the very first station he went to. He told me that there was a person towing with their lightning and was bitching even worse than he was about how hard it was to charge and tow and how none of the stations work.
His car is beautiful and the interior is amazing compared to mine, but all these non Tesla companies need to figure out the charging becuase it’s going to get worse and worse. The second a new customer has a bad experience where a charger doesn’t work it’s all over. They’re going to tell all their friends about how they can’t road trip the car ever or go on long trips.

The only thing holding ford back is the terrible state of CCS charging. Car companies that are serious need to demand a more reliable connector for any new chargers. Even if CCS has chargers, the plug has sagging issues that cause charge sessions to fail. It is a flaw due to the design of the connector, it is too large which lets the pins separate when it sags.

This is really where Tesla and Space X cross paths employing top talent to work in the 'fun' space arena while also advancing the less glamorous automotive materials industry.

Now in this time of revolutionary change it’s more important than ever to get this right. I don’t see any other legacy auto company making these strides.

I was hesitant to watch this interview and thought my doubts were confirmed in the first few minutes with all of the marketing speak, but WOW. To hear them discuss the very real issues with the public charging situation in America, to being open to adopting Tesla's connector, and to admit to drastically underestimating EV demand? I have immense respect for these three for their candid discussion and hope that Ford can ramp the Lightning & other new EV products fast enough.
