It seems that the problem could be helped with non glare lighting as we do in Florida for sea turtles. Bless these kids for doing this.

My fav prof's desktop tchotchke was a cartoon depiction of a puffin that said, "No puffin'." (For no smoking, of course.)
It reminds me of the music video for the song Glósóli by Sigur Rós, the way the pufflings are gathered and brought to the cliffs where they fly away in the end

maybe to have records of average weights throughout the year, to check for any sort of change in the puffins usual growing habits (time of birth, feeding, anomaly, etc..). i am not a specialist, i am only guessing what i think is the most likely reason.
