I’ve been wanting to add hair for years, and I only did it once and it was awesome. I just haven’t figured out the best way to do it but I definitely like this route. I have exactly the rift lot models on my desk to do it too!
i thought the thumbnail was an artwork, which says a lot about the quality of these minis. great idea adding actual hair, i've never seen that before. i know you were inspired by john blanche's art for this project but i think your style really evokes the works of clint langley as well
@@DarkAgesWorkshop no problem man, it's nice seeing someone so effectively reference the artwork when creating their miniatures, it seems an obvious thing to do but most people just seem to imitate other hobbyists rather than being inspired by a style from a different medium (or in this guy's case, two different media)
Thanks for sharing this artist, I am looking forward to painting my Warhammer Old World Orcs and Goblins army in a grimdark style and this artist has some EPIC orcs for 40K. Thanks mate and have a lovely day/night.
@@aldaron1021 oh no problem buddy. yeah clint's great, i first heard of him through 2000ad, he did the art for sláine sometimes and i was blown away by his style. later on i found he'd done a shedload of 40k art too and i found that even more impressive. some of the best renders of astartes, orks, inquisitors & rogue traders i've seen and they fit the grimdark brief perfectly :)
The hair just really changes everything. That single feature alone puts all the other modeling details you added into context. You don't just look at him and wonder if he is a chaos marine, you now understand that he is as you describe: a brutal maniac with unbridled fanaticism.
I'm blown away, these are some of the most interesting and artistic templars I've ever seen... wow. The hair idea was brilliant, as is the all the variance in textures and finishes going on throughout the models. I'm pretty excited to try some of these techniques on my own Templars now... Thanks for sharing your process, really top-notch work you've got here.
I never realised how effective the mixing of multiple mediums can work even with the same color hues. The black armor uplifted with "black" varnish is amazing when you start rolling the light over it and see all the different textures and spotting of black thats on it. Thats a lesson im taking with me this time, i really want to try this out.
I think this is my favourite space mairne miniature. The grim dark look and feel is just perfect. So good. And your video style and presentation was just as good! Matched the miniature and the vibe perfectly. This was a joy to consume. 20 mins well spent. Much love and keep at it! Earned a new sub
There's been some use of these materials for quite some time! I did all sorts of stuff with hair. Skaven, strange creatures, fur pelts. Thank you so much!
FUCK this looks amazing. Not something i personally would do as i am just starting to get into weathering and diverting from a cleaner style but still. An inspiration to be sure.
Maybe the best space marine I've ever seen. Big highlights for me: - Carrion Crimson is looking more and more appealing the more I see it used. The stray pigments in there are absolutely next level for skin. - The black ink + satin varnish mixture stippled on... So good. It looks like raindrops from the decayed and polluted urban environment have started falling in the last few minutes, leaving gross damp splotches all over the armor. Such a good effect. - I would love a more in-depth look at your process for hair - it's a challenge I want to undertake at some point and would love the see the process from start to finish.

That was a very fun watch, especially since I am looking to get into the grimdark style with some Black Templars I haven’t started painting yet. I do think going with the “box art” colors of red for weapon casings and the shoulder pauldron trim for sergeants would have made that model pop even more. The hair looked really cool, but as sons of Dorn, I think the Black Templars might be among the least likely marine chapters to have such “impractical” hair!
Yes, correct! Monks/crusaders/knights also used to have long hair. BTs wouldn't sport them to be perfectly honest, but when I envisioned it I just couldn't resist trying it out. Thanks for your insight!
I totally understand! I initially wanted a tabletop standard, and a process that is creative and just flows for me and my way of interpreting the aesthetic and chaos of battles of WH40K.
