Badger does such a good job of his projects. Please be careful with those huge stones. You work so well together and I love the way you are so happy. Love from Pam in Grafton New South Wales Australia.
Awesome job. As others have said, believe you get long-term benefits from a wider door. If you can match the bathroom door, it will also add symmetry. Obviously, easier said than done. 🙂 What wonderful land you have. Love the river.
It’s slightly wider than a normal door way think it’s just hard to tell in the video ☺️ the bathroom door is much wider than the average door. Thank you for watching! ☺️
Another fun episode. 😊 Hope you dont mind me saying, the door wants to be wider, another 4"s out on the left, to the next natural break line. With Badger's new flintstones rock cutting skills, making a nice stone lintel would be cool too. Ever hear of Wedge & Feathers ?
No of course not, its slightly wider than a normal door way think it’s just hard to tell in the video ☺️ the bathroom door is very wide so makes it look smaller.
There HAS TO BE A STONE LINTEL across and beyond the opening to support the roof!!! Even in my parents solid brick house that was build in the late 1950s had a lintel across and beyond every window for support. This really scares me!
Great job Badger on making a doorway to the house….how exciting! Love seeing the children enjoying the beautiful fall nature around you. Can’t wait to see the gate next week….those posts look amazing. Have a great week…hello from Chile where it is also raining which is odd for Spring. ❤
Wider door ? To be able to move furniture into a room/fixtures for other parts of the build that are accessed by the door into main part of house requires adequate door widths.
The gate posts look amazing ! You might want to make the door wider as else youwill have issues bringing furniture ect.into the kitchen. You need at least 85/90 cm without a door and doorposts and with around the 95/1.00 meter.
Creating a new entrance and working with granite is no easy feat, but you guys nailed it! 💪 The progress is incredible, and Badger's skills with those stones are impressive. 🪨 The river sounds in the background add a soothing touch to the video. Can't wait to see the gates up - they already look amazing! 😊
Great work opening a new door but I strongly advise to put at the top of the a granite beam wider then the the door way for structural strength considering the roof will be right on top of it. Anyway great video😊
Badger, I can't believe you knocked out those huge granite blocks without a crowbar! You are Superman!! I hope you can get yourself a long crowbar before you do the next doorway, though, just to make it a bit easier on yourself! I'm so interested to see what the next phase of construction will be! It's so different from building in North America where I live now but the homes in Bermuda, where I grew up are made with cement blocks now but were originally made from limestone blocks quarried on the island! Quite a bit easier to move than your granite ones! Have a great week, guys! Hope the weather cooperates!!❤
I think I held my breath the whole time Badger moved that stone! Your so brave Badger but well done! It's an amazing gate but why do so many people there gave gates like that, the Newby's have an iron gate?! I love that!
seriously i'd be leaving this to the professionals, badger is doing a great job even though he doesn't really know how, they use big stones on top of doorways as well... scary can't wait til you start on the major bits, dying to see it all together thanx so much for sharing
I love that you are taking this on yourself. Well done! I worry about your eyes and lungs...stone dust is terrible for your lungs (as we learned from all the 18th and 19th century miners) and stone chips can blind you if they fly into your eyes. Safety first!!!
Building 1 house is different than being in a mine your whole life, some of you safety people take things to a ridiculous extreme. You can't make an omelette without cracking an egg.
I thought of exactly the same thing. I would definitely go with a wider doorway - more light coming in and more space if you are moving furniture around.
Hi, im a stone mason, i started renovating ruins in 1997 and ive been here in Portugal working for over 4 years now. Its so lovely here is it not?😊 i read some of the comments a few had ok ideas but knowbody got it completely right. I think you did a great job and I doubt any of them would of done better. Im in alpedrinha in castelo branco where abouts are you? 😊
Great job wow. 😁✌️ You are welcome to Portugal, great paradise and Land. Enjoy watching your videos, inspire my vision and happiness one day make the same. Buy old house on countryside, we foget the city, stress, many people and mortgages , simple live is wonderful, great family great project and family, enjoy beautiful life. Hug from Portugal
A casa está ficar muito boa e bem planeada estou cada vez mais entusiasmada só de ver, tenho um grande fascínio por casas do meio rural talvez porque foram as minhas origens muita força rezo para que tudo corra bem beijinhos às crianças.
Please, ask the maçons to help you with the stone walls. Those stones are to big to be handled without help. They can do the doors and windows. This video made me nervous.
For that last block you pushed out you could have build a pile of round logs like a triangle on the outside. It just need to be held in place by some small sticks. Then you push the stone out from the top and it rolls down and it is easier to tip over to the correct side. Plus you have spare round poles to put under it since it is not in the correct location yet.
I thought that road was part of the official road you had to leave access to? I'm confused...obviously. Can you put up a gate closing the road off? I would seriously consider putting in a steel support above the door so the roof won't sag if the wood beam sags, rots, warps, or gets bug infested.
.... or stone of course, those have worked for centuries, no bugs or rot. I'm sure the same masons who built the gate pillars can make the appropriate size or even Badger if he has the right stone. I was wondering about the hinges on the gate... seems for that weight there should be at least 2 or 3 on each side?
Thank you for your message We aren’t closing the road off there is access further up on our land , it’s only a foot path now but our neighbours said back in the day it was used for donkey and traps ☺️
Me: Badger's not really going to cut those thick granite stones out by drilling holes all the way down, is he? Turns out he is. Must have been a slog, and then with a few nervous moments as you bang out the bigger pieces of stone. On the plus side, you'll be able to think of this week, every time you walk through that doorway. It's definitely a bit of a breakthrough in the build.
Love this channel. Ok so here goes. Get Badger a long steel crowbar. He has a lot more rock to manhandle. In celebration of that: Beast from the east Pest from the west Force from the north Doubt from the south. Naming convention for stone expletives.
I'm slightly (very) shocked that you are chipping away at the granite without safety glasses on. I know you know better than that! Safety first guys...don't play with your eyesight.
I love you all, so adorable in their effort of helping as much as they....so smart and intelligent❤🎉😊
What a fantastic adventure! Your dream homestead is shaping up beautifully. And your children are so lively and cute ❤
A man of many talents is Badger. The gates will look great now there.
Hi roby🌹🌹
How are you doing?
I´m Portuguese and i loved ear the children spoke two words in portuguese! you got a fan.
Thank you so much 😊
Wow! Badger knocked those huge stones out! Seeing is believing! Awesome progress on the house, and I can't wait to see the gates up.❤
Love the spindle of the river

Well done Badger, that was quite a task! 😁👏🐇💝💝
The fall colors are beautiful. I like the sound of the river. Looking good.

Amazing good luck ☺️
Great progress opening up the door way. It looked really hard work. Love the sound of the river. ❤
I love ❤️ the sound of the river. It’s gloriously soothing. Great work. 🙌

Great scary video lol well done couldn’t believe you got through those boulders .
seriously i'd be leaving this to the professionals, badger is doing a great job even though he doesn't really know how, they use big stones on top of doorways as well...
scary
can't wait til you start on the major bits, dying to see it all together
thanx so much for sharing
i also find it strange that they didn't put doorways inbetween rooms ....
Thank you so much, yes he is doing a great job! ☺️

Have a great week Scotters!!!!🇬🇷 greece
Well done Badger
So much progress!!! Can’t wait for Sundays to get updates
Beautiful. Hard work. Love all your video's. Question: Is the door opening not to small? I would make it the same width as the bathroom door.
I thought of exactly the same thing. I would definitely go with a wider doorway - more light coming in and more space if you are moving furniture around.
It’s slightly wider than a normal door way, think it’s just hard to tell in the video ☺️
The bathroom door is really wide so makes it look small. ☺️
Can't wait to see the gate up !
Badger needs a long pry bar for leverage with those stones!
Your home is taking shape. Love it.❤
Yes! Thank you! ☺️
Hi, cooking the chestnuts in the pressure cooker makes them less dry to eat. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷❤🎉😊
Hi Sonia🌹🌹
How are you doing?
Thanks for the tip! ☺️
It’s great progress 🐨🐨🐨
Great work on the doorway! Can’t wait to see the gates!
Turn the cut blocks round 180° to get an undrilled finish where it can be seen.
Great idea ☺️
Bloody well done Badge mate

It’s so lively we love it so much! And thank you for your kind words ☺️ we are about 40 mins from Porto inland ☺️
Absolutely fabulous , ❤❤❤❤❤
You need a grinder to cut through the stone or granite.

Awesome, thank you for your kind message ☺️
Man i think itd be wise to ask advice of the true stone masons. Getting lentil ready might just be smart
Muito fofa essa família!!!❤
Hello from Indiana USA. I'm new to you from the Newby show.
Hello great to have you here :)
Always entertaining!
That doorway looks small ?

I felt anxious about your safety too, Badger, that’s a specialised job.
Stones r so pretty
Congratulations on your door 🚪 yea!!!!
Thank you!!
Bonne journée.... à la semaine prochaine ..👍👍👍👍🇨🇵🇵🇹

Eye protection might be wise while chisels work on stone and mortar.
Hi Elean🌹🌹
How are you doing?
Please wear eye protection when you’re chipping stone!
Ihr macht das toll, wielange baut ihr schon, und wann ist Einzug 😊 ?
Thank you so much, we started building a couple of months ago. It hopefully will be in by next winter! ☺️
❤
Kayla and Badger you need to do shout outs to get viewers to subscribe as you're getting a lot more viewings now👍👍👍
Yes thank you we need too! ☺️

That’s what I thought!
Why don’t you put the caravan and or bus under/in the barn 🤔
The bus is a bit to tall so we will have to dig it down but would be great if we could!☺️
You should have used a gas axe
🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
I'm slightly (very) shocked that you are chipping away at the granite without safety glasses on. I know you know better than that! Safety first guys...don't play with your eyesight.
🫣 I’m going to be strict with him it won’t happen again!
Why not use a grinder? To much work.
We don’t have one 😬
Doorway looks a bit small but it's hard to tell. I imagine a wide opening or even a great archway! 🤎
It’s slightly wider than a normal doorway think it’s just hard to tell in the video ☺️
Great vid but tell him to put his safety specs on while bashing granite 😂
Wear goggles to protect your eyes.
