Can't help but wonder if this is actually wise to do.
Also can't imagine that the engineers who designed the thermal householding would not be aware of something like this.

great comment! ahm yes but engineers must take to a count noise and cost of doing so … I have seen way worse designs from way bigger companies so IMO you right but there is also other side to every solution.

The stock design allows air to flow over all components which is likely important for longevity.

@michaeldmorrison correct, however this still keeps that airflow in the case.

hope you come back and post another video in a while so we can hear whether this cooks your ssd, VRMS, and literally just every component on the motherboard that isnt connected to the heat pipe.
the worst part might be that with the CPU so much cooler it wont throttle and could burn out all those other components faster.

This is a very terrible idea to do to your steam deck, and even runs the risk of ruining your steam deck permanently. There is a reason in a purpose that they have designed the air intake location. It’s supposed to cool other items off before it gets to the other areas to cool stuff.

look, if they would want to be efficient (the engineers) they would use different way to passively cool down other components on motherboard…. factory design looks to me that it was pushed by budget and ease of production.
you don’t have to do anything to your SD , that is why Im here for.
      thanks for your comment

3:50 video creator very much took this into account in the design

This looks pretty cool! I am wondering if doing this improves frame rates in any way. That would be neat to see.

I would say so…. look at the fan speed after mod….. it was far from maxing out
