    Longbourn is a fantastic retelling from a different perspective! With all of the Austen and P&P retellings out and coming soon (The Other Bennet Sister, Miss Austen, Charlotte), I decided to reread P&P also, and so will definitely have to check out your readings.

    I looooved Longbourn. It was such an incredible commentary on the working class esp in a work (P&P) that only focuses on middle to upper classes. It shows how the working class personal lives are very much affected and guided by their employers.

      @@jenvcampbell I was born at the time, severely underweight and with a heart condition that the doctors couldn't quite figure out what it was. They said that with age it would go away. But I do still have problems with my heart from time to time, and they still haven't given me a concrete diagnosis.

    Longbourn is not so much a retelling as it is just set during the events in Pride and Prejudice, I would say.

    • @jenvcampbell
      @jenvcampbell  4 года назад +1

      I mean it in the sense that you are 'telling it' from a different perspective. Same as The Other Bennet sister. An extension of, I guess.

    • @LisaZoe86
      @LisaZoe86 4 года назад +1

      @@jenvcampbell I haven't read "The other Bennet sister" (yet). I meant that Loungbourn is hardly telling the story of Pride and Prejudice, not even from a different perspective, but a completely different story that takes place during Pride and Prejudice. We get glimpses of Lizzy and Co, we see them in a very different light, that's true. In a way of course it IS a retelling. But I just meant to say that Loungbourn is not about Lizzy's and Darcy's story at all. At least I don't remember it to be. But it's an extremly beautiful story in it's own right. It was different from what I thought it was going to be, but I loved it.

    • @jenvcampbell
      @jenvcampbell  4 года назад +1

      @@LisaZoe86 The Other Bennet Sister is a completely different story, too :) I don't think I'd enjoy the same story but with added thoughts from another character; something new (but at the same time familiar) is my favourite.

You are that rare and wonderful kind of person to whom I would like to say and ask many things.Unfortunately for me and luckily for you 😊 l understand what you say but l have to use the google translator to write something intelligible and it's very boring. Stay safe, Laela from Italy.❤ 📚 🇮🇹

    nature-writing or anything 'factual' mixed in with 'memoir' is literally my least favourite kind of book ever - i shan't try to recommend you fact books, at least:) To me (well i'm autistic) it's half the facts, half wrong, mixed in with a bunch of tedious navel-gazing waffle nobody's interested in. I always thought i liked fact books, because i like text books, but weirdly nobody means books about facts when they say 'nonfiction', they mean some third class of stuff. My gcse maths book is one of my favourite books. My parents prefer the history encyclopaedia, a mediaeval herbal and the VW maintenance manual. I'm trying to read a Welsh thesauraus. But there you are.
