Well you've already got the nagpa, blackball (umbral blot), brain collector, frost salamander, tortle, choker, and juggernaut. You might start with the bodendrucker or the wyrd, as those are a blast to fight.
You Clueless bunch, don't bring the planes into your squabble! As it is, the Torilians and (probably) the Mystarans get it wrong. Now... To kick my butt into gear on some 2E universe videos...
For mind flairs I would probably make a custom nightmare race. Maybe strange monsters made of a tar and rubbery slime. With red marble eyes and a love for taste testing sentient creatures.
Watching your videos has been giving me some ideas for videos. Maybe not Mystara related, but certainly something similar in style. I have to thank you for that, your videos are inspirational stuff.
Good to see the salt mines of Poland making an appearance. Having been there, those vaulted cathedrals carved straight out of the earth feel like they belong in a D&D setting
What is the statute of limitations on adding monsters that were not in BECMI to Mystara? Is it only monsters that were around in 1E/2E that TSR didn't include in the setting, or are we not allowing monsters later than 1996 to show up at all?
My personal method is seeing if there's a need for the creature. If it's already very close to an existing creature then no. if there's no room for it in the setting because it's just so alien or requires a specific environment that isn't present then also no. All the new constructs that have been added to 5th edition that's not a problem. The cave Fisher you could easily put in the setting without overlapping another creature. The grung fill a role we don't have for an area that's not well explored making them easy to integrate
I don't beget you for poking fun at FR. Though, the setting was so different in AD&D. I blame 3rd edition on its current form. Granted, I blame WotC for a lot of things.
My two complaints about FR 5E are first the faction system is restricting module placement because since the factions are geographically located near the Sword Coast the further you do the less reason they are going to have for being there. The Lord's Alliance has no business in Thay or Mulhorand. Second the constant stream of celebrity NPCs, many of which should be quite dead from the time jump. Minsc (AND BOO!) were turned to stone. Volo was imprisoned. Elminster has so much plot armor it's ridiculous. Instead of giving us new characters with new stories, we're still dealing with characters from 3rd edition. It feels like the setting has stagnated. Players don't want old adventures rehashed for the new edition, we want new adventures in the old settings. Progress the story, don't retell it.
The setting never recovered from 4e, all that's happening is safe business moves that actually compound the damage done to the settings. Canon does and doesn't matter at the same time in some weird paradox. Granted, with the influx of newbies and normals, that doesn't matter...
@@Mr_Welch not to split hairs, but Minsc and Boo are 2nd edition probably the worst thing they did to him was declare Boo an ordinary hamster and Minsc a certifiable idiot instead of making Boo properly a giant space hamster from Spelljammer, which come in many varieties including miniature, and letting Minsc be a secret genius in that regard

Thank you good sir! I got the "Into the Borderlands" adventure book recently and have been scratching my head on how to bring the new stuff (The Tower, the passage between Quasqueton and the Caves of Chaos, etc) in line with Mystara (Preferably bringing it into BECMI/RC, but just Mystara alone is fine). As someone who was, well, too young to really get into RPGs when Mystara was dropped, I'm indeed the target demographic for this. I finally, on my own, managed to figure out that Umber Hulks are called Hulkers in Mystara and are right next to the Hook Horrors, but I hadn't thought the Myconids were a problem, but I think I can work with Geonids, halving the hit dice for the "sprouts". Any ideas for how to deal with Kobolds that include a flock of Winged Kobolds?
Okay, please don't murder me for this, but I had a thought: Instead of creating a Drow substitute, we introduce something new. I know the Immortals don't allow gods, but would they allow Daelkyr? What if the Daelkyr decided to make "art" with the Shadow Elves the way they did with the Goblins when they created the Dolgrim? Suddenly you have an army of horrifically mutated Shadow Elves, who are deeply touched in the head, and who suffer horrific nightmares if they ever start to become too compassionate.
That's it, I'm stealing all the mytaran monsters for the realms.. this is planar war!

The setting could stand to use a few dozen more nightmare creatures.

Creatures who are debauched and evil? That describes halflings.
That also describes 2 year olds.
Very useful
Baldanders work better as replacements for rakshasa, I think.

I think Oberron would have more of a problem than the Immortals. If people start messing with his schemes, he might get a bit tiffed.
