  • The G.I. Bill has sent millions of white veterans to college and helped them buy homes and businesses - the same can't be said for Black veterans in the U.S. Investigative Reporter Bigad Shaban reports.

My Father served as well IN WWII 1943/45 and was denied GI Bill upon returning home and subsequently being able to provide family with a better way of living for generations to come.Lets bombard Jim Clybourne office with emails, letters, media to get this Bill supported and passed to get this done by any President that will sign Bill! The fact that it has been far too long its a shame that the Men whom fought for there country have been disrespected!

Well supposedly there exist a BDD (Benefits Delivered at Discharge) program that informs exiting military members about filing for VA disability benefits. This program didnt exist when I discharged the AF with 3 sublte back strains in my last 8 months of military service, and compromised PFT lung readings. Nobody ever told me I shouldve been a candidate for a medical discharge when the AF got ancy about seperating me 3 years into a 6 year enlistment - asking me to sign a suicidal ideations statement in order to be released from military active duty status, something I adamantly refused to do. I never heard anything about filing for VA disability benefits, after abrubtly, without prior notice, being escorted as a criminal with two security police shouldering M-16 rifles to discharge outprocessing, from the numerous veterans that I worked around for 27 years post service while I struggled working through 28 different jobs in 22 years with 3 seperate job workers compensation claims for what shouldve been VA service-connected disabilities to begin with. I was too busy trying to find the next job to worry about any unknown hand-outs that the federal government owed me. There's a whole lot of individuals working at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs who whole-heartedly believe in catchie phrases like "semper fi" and "nemo residio" who become traitors to their service in regards to black veterans obtaining their rightfully earned VA disability benefits. The VA system, through and through, is laden with a cowardess mentality from those who tout themselves as heroes to country - these very treasoness individuals who have the authority to render whether black veterans will be alloted VA disability awards proportionally with our white constituency, which has already been proven not to be the case at all. There's a reason why the phrase "day late and dollar short" exist in regards to black veterans.

@@manuelsanchezdeinigo3959 Welcome to the club. Idt it has much to do with Branch of Service or MOS. Or combat tours for that matter. If ur a black veteran there's a greater chance that it's a white person, sometimes veterans themselves, who uses the system against you in favorable VA decisions rendered, percentage award amounts given, and denial decision given. The VA has advised as much in the Conley Monk Jr. Discrimination lawsuit, that may reach class action status and rightfully so.

Well, when it said that it didn't want black people to live in its community, that's what it meant. So, economics sanctions were used, and through every one of its agencies especially the VA they extracted out billions of dollars from the black community. Which is devastating for a community coming through the crucible of Hell designed for it. In fact, when the VA withheld the black veterans earned benefits. The rippling effect is akin to the black veterans through their denied benefits actually paying the government for being in the military. So that the veterans actually paid out of his pocket for his draft and training, uniform, housing, meals, the ammunition used, and even for the airplane ticket, taking them to the battlefield and the return home. It's a vicious scheme and cycle. All the black veterans received from his military experience is when he dies because he never received his earned benefits, the funeral he gets is deducted from his denied benefits, cost the black veterans hundreds of thousands upon thousands of dollars for the coffin the flag and Taps. Their families never get any chance for those denied benefits to be used in support of the family. Like I said, it's a rotten low-down dirty vicious scheme, well beneath any nation or country; let alone one touting itself as the best country, to every grace GOD'S green earth. The shining light on a hill from sea to shining sea has over and over disgraced itself.

Usually the VA waits till veterans die from VA care or lack of care . And VA doesn’t understand how the suicide rate is so high and Veterans are calling Non VA and telling him I need help I need help I need help I need help and the VA turns a deaf ear because they’d rather pay their employees to deny benefits and services to honorably discharged veterans.

Serve two tours in South Korea with the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion near the DMZ. From 1984 till 1985 once again from 1987 and 1988. Best tours of my life. Got to know the local Koreans and their culture. Never heard any noises except for someone stereo was too loud. Enjoyed it much better than my Stateside tours. 13 years US Army.

So allow me to repost to a platform that hopefully takes a black disabled veterans perspective without resulting admonishment or deletion. Seems that there exist an evolutionary shift in how the Dept of Veterans Affairs has methodically shifted tactics on how it prevents black veterans from getting VA disability benefits. The evolution from how the branches of military service partnered and utilized a tandemized strategy with the VA to ensure denial of post service VA benefits by giving other than honorable discharges, morphed to lack of information for black veterans, many like myself who sustained in-service injuries. Misinformation or no information achieved the sought outcome of preventing black veterans from obtaining VA disability benefits for decades if at all. Cowardess comes to mind framed with sedition by many who have served country themselves. Traitors to the very tenets of democracy, the Dept. of Veteran Affairs.

South Korea is a one year tour. And there were no war, cese fire but no war so how is he in vfw? He was in 1984 to 1987. Did he go sick call for not able to sleep during his tour of Korea? I spent 6 months in DMZ in 4 years in Korea from 1987 to 1991 and slept like baby every night.

If you look at the history of the DMZ, there has been firefights on the border after the official war. There's been artillery exchanges, casualties.

@JustADude yea till 1954. Small rifle fights but not artillery fights. I am Korean, lived there till I was 15. Learned Korean history. My father was in the Korean War, served till 1958, and got out as Colonal, and my cousins were in the Korean army after the Korean War and Vietnam War.

There was a axe murder incident in Korea at the DMZ August 18th 1976 Captain Arthur Bonifas and 1st Lieutenant Mark Barnett was killed. They were sent to trim a 40-ft tree that obstructed the view from a checkpoint. They were attacked by North Korean soldiers. There hasn't been any hostile incidents since this Savage attack.
