@@luislaplume8261 unfortunately, it’s the same situation with Haiti as well. We have a beautiful island but the government suck the people dry. Economically we can’t get ahead because the government protect the elite and enable them to make more business while the little man suffer. We must fight and push forward for change. We can’t continue to live like this. My great, great grandfather was Cuban. I always wanted to visit the island but I never wanted to contribute to this government.
Fulgencio Batista led a coup d'etat in 1952. It toppled a democratically elected government and initiated another dictatorship (one of many in the history of the Republic) Naturally, the middle class did not support Batista and supported the rebels in the mountains. When Castro entered Havana during the first weeks of January 1959 the entire island, less remnants of Batista supporters, idolized him as a liberator. I was a child in Havana at the time and remember the adulation of the masses on TV as he entered the city. Shortly after came the puppet trials televised live for the public. Individuals were sentenced to death for real or imagined political crimes. I remember those. I was 8 years old and remember the masses yelling "Paredon" on TV. I didn't even know what Paredon meant. I learned quick enough that it was the masses demanding the firing squad for individuals put on trial. The neighborhood committees were instituted shortly after. Each neighborhood had an assigned family charged with the task of spying and snitching on the residents. My parents sat us down and told us that we must not repeat anything that was said in our home to any one. This instilled fear in our child minds, fear that our parents could be arrested and our family destroyed. It was shortly after my father's business (a business that he built from scratch through sweat equity) was nationalized, when we left the island during 1960. Over 100,000 other members of the middle class who did not approve of the regime left during or shortly after our departure. In Miami, we sought political asylum in the US. The US took us in and adopted us as its own. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to start over, and have always been thankful to our adopted country. This is the communism at work at its beginning as seen through the eyes of an 8-9 year old child. The situation on the island got progressively worse throughout the years. I consider myself lucky that my parents had the forethought to take us out of there to a place free of oppression where we could grow up with freedom of speech and of mind.

They always live well although they lead the masses to believe that they are equal. There is NO equality in communism just oppression poverty and misery. Communists want the people poor and hungry. If the masses have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, they won't spend too much time planning revolutions. That is the reality my friend.
@@cptprice111 It is the middle class that makes a nation prosper. The larger it is, the more opportunities for a high standard of living for the citizens. There is upward mobility in first world nations. The poor do not stay poor forever and there is always help from the government and/or charitable organizations to get the poor out of poverty. Communism on the other hand is stale and stagnant. Every one is poor except for the ruling elite and there is very little room at the top of the pyramid. The top brass always lives well. Some people are too ignorant to realize that the goal of the communist elite is not so much the well being of the citizens: it is rather to keep themselves in power. In order to achieve this they need to keep the "proletariat" poor and hungry. If people have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, they won't spend too much time planning revolutions. Communism breeds poverty, oppression, corruption and misery. There must have been a reason why all of Eastern Europe shook itself off of communism back in 1989 and later Russia in 1991. Ask an average Russian, Pole or Bulgarian if they would like to live under communism again. We all know what their answer would be. That is the reality of the matter.

The Cuban people have a reputation for being highly educated but it's all lies. Cuba earned most of its money through fraud, leasing "doctors" with less medical knowledge than first year American medical students to countries throughout south America and Africa and also to some Asian countries. Reforming the government to be more honest will eliminate half of the country's income and most of its political influence including its close ties and mercenaries in Venezuela (which are how and why it gets its oil from there).
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money."
Margaret Thatcher

This is not a skin color issue
@@johnortiz566The Cuban government has been credibly said to over-report the white population percentage. Perhaps to deal with this exact criticism.
The reason most Cubans on the island are black and mulatto is because most of the whites left long ago. Take a look at pictures of Havana before 1959 and you'll see the vast majority of people in the streets are white .

Both Pierre and Justin have pulled many scams on the citizens of Canada and have enriched themselves enormously. His mentally-ill and out-of-control mother also did damage to our country. She was an embarrassment to our country with her many antics, especially with her involvement with Castro. That story has been heavily censored. Sometimes I think the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.
The younger Castro, I mean Trudeau, is trying to turn Canada into another communist dictatorship.
Why does she makes it about race? She says the majority of the Cuban people don't look the leaders, but the 2012 Cuban census says 64.1% white, 26.6% mixed. Raul was rumored to be half Asian. Criticizing people based on their race is racist, no matter what race they are.
Shes an idiot
Because colorism is a big thing in the Caribbean.
Mixed people hate themselves and are bitter

That's because she is against racists by being one. Quite typical for US university woke brigade to make it all about themselves where they are just so virtuous about racism to the extent they have to invent it so they can advertise their virtue.

Yes, why not use the race argument, soon Cuba will be as well managed as Haiti.
Exactly.
Yes but in Cuba they never practiced TRUE Communism you know.

There is no true communism. It's just an intellectual fantasy in John Lennon's head. Reality is dictators, mass murder, refugees fleeing, and economic ruin. Megalomaniacs after total power pushing Marxism like lethal religious dogma.

In fact there is not communism but socialism 😅
Actually all countries that have been under Socialism have been a disaster.
Sanctions? What is that Leftie Aussie Professor talking about? Yes, there have been US sanctions, which as an American I feel should have been done away with 25 years ago. That said, Cuba can trade with, and does, almost every other nation in the world, including Canada, Mexico, African and European nations. Certainly, if Cuba, had leadership that cared more about how economies work than ideology Cubans would have plenty to eat. The US sanctions have absolutely nothing to do with the current crisis in Cuba. Cuba is the poster child for the failed Communist/Socialist State.
And Argentina, and Venezuela.
For 30 years they where the favorite child of USSR. They are poor because they don't produce anything, because Comunism doesnt function, it is a dictatorial, opressive and unequal ideology!
A MAJOR reason for the continued survival of the Cuban regime is the favoritism Cuban refugees receive when they arrive at the United States. They get instant admission and rights to stay and be employed. And this inturn means a large and continuing flow of dollars back to Cuba, one of the major sources of income for Cuba and one of the major reasons the regime continues to survive.

Cuba with its rich culture of the best music in the world: salsa, bolero, changui, food, beautiful people, beautiful land for tourism etc.... has nothing a single thing to do with rotten communism - it's not fair they've been stuck with this sh8 government for so long suppressing their freedom. I pray for them to stay steadfast and not give up fighting, the price will be high, but freedom doesn't come for free.
In the meantime, the news outlets here in the U.S. reporting on Cuba: crickets

I imagine they'd be doing a lot better if we didn't have the embargo.
Cuba received FREE money from the Soviets for decades. Then Venezuela did the same thing just piss the United States off. Nothing changed. The thugs on the top live well, while everyone else has to struggle. If the Cuban people want change, they have to bring this about themselves. If another country gets involved, then they will blame that other country for all their problems. THEY chose this system, they have to get rid of it.
Remember when the people were shouting Libertad in 1959 and Castro was promising them the moon? I feel so badly for them.
Do not underestimate the influence of the sanctions imposed by the USA government. But I agree with different government Cuba could live better.
Totalitarians always pull on the heartstrings, what ever they my be. While they silently gain control and power and de-arm anyone that would fight using law-fare to hem in the people. Same play been used for centuries, just change the name of the idiots in charge. The USA and French revolutions did throw a big monkey wrench into things. The French lost their gains early, the USA kept ours for a while but they have been severely eroded by WEF supporters and communists/socialist salami slicing. Their problem is people are on to them now….and the people are pissed. Even Japan knew better.
But yet so many believe that socialism is a miracle.

Funny how nobody in the comments even acknowledge the massive US embargo on Cuba. What is really the point of not only keeping the embargo but also making it worse? In the end this is just making a bad situation worse for regular cubans, who according to this video can't do much about it.

Not if you are too weak from hunger and have no weapons.

Saw videos and pictures of Cuba before Castro and the city’s were beautiful and vibrant now old, run down and neglected. The good news is that nothing ever stays the same and the people eventually revolt as history has shown us in the past. Time will tell 🙏
It's about time the Cubans are free from this regime, many Americans are grateful to the Cuban migrants who have demonstrated the role model of keeping a community happy and the social awareness to learn the hard lessons. We are sad to still see the Cubians face this real oppression and the most we can do is hard line tactics.
Me and my daughter were able to visit there in 2017 when President Obama opened up relations with them again. Many people were telling us they hope the relationship with the USA would continue. The Cuban people were amazing and we enjoyed our time there.

Probably the biggest obstacle to getting rid of the Cuban regime has been the United States itself.
The Cuban regime has generously allowed dissidents to emigrate to the United States since the inception of the regime, and the United States has generously accepted them by the million.
In addition to that, money sent back to Cuba by those escapees have been a large factor in the continued survival of the regime.
