    Fulgencio Batista led a coup d'etat in 1952. It toppled a democratically elected government and initiated another dictatorship (one of many in the history of the Republic) Naturally, the middle class did not support Batista and supported the rebels in the mountains. When Castro entered Havana during the first weeks of January 1959 the entire island, less remnants of Batista supporters, idolized him as a liberator. I was a child in Havana at the time and remember the adulation of the masses on TV as he entered the city. Shortly after came the puppet trials televised live for the public. Individuals were sentenced to death for real or imagined political crimes. I remember those. I was 8 years old and remember the masses yelling "Paredon" on TV. I didn't even know what Paredon meant. I learned quick enough that it was the masses demanding the firing squad for individuals put on trial. The neighborhood committees were instituted shortly after. Each neighborhood had an assigned family charged with the task of spying and snitching on the residents. My parents sat us down and told us that we must not repeat anything that was said in our home to any one. This instilled fear in our child minds, fear that our parents could be arrested and our family destroyed. It was shortly after my father's business (a business that he built from scratch through sweat equity) was nationalized, when we left the island during 1960. Over 100,000 other members of the middle class who did not approve of the regime left during or shortly after our departure. In Miami, we sought political asylum in the US. The US took us in and adopted us as its own. We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to start over, and have always been thankful to our adopted country. This is the communism at work at its beginning as seen through the eyes of an 8-9 year old child. The situation on the island got progressively worse throughout the years. I consider myself lucky that my parents had the forethought to take us out of there to a place free of oppression where we could grow up with freedom of speech and of mind.

There is upward mobility in first world nations. Communism is stale and stagnant everyone is poor and stays poor except for the governing communist elite. They always live well although they lead the masses to believe that they are equal. There is NO equality in communism just oppression poverty and misery. Communists want the people poor and hungry. If the masses have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, they won't spend too much time planning revolutions. That is the reality my friend.

    • @Ravensonng
      @Ravensonng 8 месяцев назад +19

      @@cptprice111 It is the middle class that makes a nation prosper. The larger it is, the more opportunities for a high standard of living for the citizens. There is upward mobility in first world nations. The poor do not stay poor forever and there is always help from the government and/or charitable organizations to get the poor out of poverty. Communism on the other hand is stale and stagnant. Every one is poor except for the ruling elite and there is very little room at the top of the pyramid. The top brass always lives well. Some people are too ignorant to realize that the goal of the communist elite is not so much the well being of the citizens: it is rather to keep themselves in power. In order to achieve this they need to keep the "proletariat" poor and hungry. If people have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, they won't spend too much time planning revolutions. Communism breeds poverty, oppression, corruption and misery. There must have been a reason why all of Eastern Europe shook itself off of communism back in 1989 and later Russia in 1991. Ask an average Russian, Pole or Bulgarian if they would like to live under communism again. We all know what their answer would be. That is the reality of the matter.

    I listened to this report and I'm rather shocked between the similarities between Cuba its "Government" and South Africa and the ANC here. Both follow a communist believe and I can only but support the people of Cuba to break free from this Communist Dictatorial regime, similar to what we have with the ANC here in South Africa. Weaponizing food and electricity etc.... the state's complete inability to provice the most basic services, yet they want to remain in power for the own financial benefit.

      The Cuban people have a reputation for being highly educated but it's all lies. Cuba earned most of its money through fraud, leasing "doctors" with less medical knowledge than first year American medical students to countries throughout south America and Africa and also to some Asian countries. Reforming the government to be more honest will eliminate half of the country's income and most of its political influence including its close ties and mercenaries in Venezuela (which are how and why it gets its oil from there). You're blind to how different Americans are to other populations. Cuba's problems are vastly larger than a government. America thrives without Federal fascism. Cuba has never had a prosperous or independence-capable population. @@electro_sykes

    I remember when this happened in 2021 and AOC downplayed the whole thing. The cost of meat is very expensive like nearly a third of monthly pay wage. Cows and other animals are regulated and is forbidden to slaughter them unless the government allows it. Maybe the US military can topple this regime cause nothing else has worked. I still have family members living there and they try NOT to say anything in fear. My grandfather came to the states in the 40s was brought back to Cuba under doobius circumstances (family nonsense). He was stuck there until 64. He couldn't get out even though he earned US citizenship too. Castro's goons thought he was a spy cause he was a photographer so the last 2+ years was very hard. He wouldn't talk about anything from there and still was afraid decades later. I fooled him into believeing I knew more than I did and then he spilt the beans to me alone and kept his secrets until after his death. He built another life there including another wife and son cause he thought he'd never come back stateside. My grandmother had suspicions and my dad was floored when he found out about a half brother and a bit upset I held on to those secrets from him at least. Sorry to get off topic there. Thought I'd share.

That said, Cuba can trade with, and does, almost every other nation in the world, including Canada, Mexico, African and European nations. Certainly, if Cuba, had leadership that cared more about how economies work than ideology Cubans would have plenty to eat. The US sanctions have absolutely nothing to do with the current crisis in Cuba. Cuba is the poster child for the failed Communist/Socialist State.

And this inturn means a large and continuing flow of dollars back to Cuba, one of the major sources of income for Cuba and one of the major reasons the regime continues to survive.

      Probably the biggest obstacle to getting rid of the Cuban regime has been the United States itself.
      The Cuban regime has generously allowed dissidents to emigrate to the United States since the inception of the regime, and the United States has generously accepted them by the million.
      In addition to that, money sent back to Cuba by those escapees have been a large factor in the continued survival of the regime.

    I spend thousands of dollars yearly to help my family with food, medicine, cellulars and clothing. I never understand what the international community calls an "Embargo"..Banks don't give them credit because they don't pay back. That's all.

      Embargo is a selfish USA policy
      that harms Cuban people but does not effect changes
      It feels satisfying to US Americans
      but is really a lose-lose strategy

    I don't know what she is talking about with that comment that implies that the white cubans are in charge and supported this system. Actually a majority of the cubans that were the first to leave cuba in the 60's because they didnt agree with the system were not the afro cuban in my experience. Not sure why she even mentions that when the problem is that ideology and not race.
