i bought the spare tire and actually installed it to be sure it worked and it works just fine and a I am happy and feel more secure with it on board all the time
Hi, were you able to fit a full size spare under the trunk?
Right?! IT's almost as if car manufacturers should include a spare tire with their vehicles. Oh wait, for DECADES they've done exactly that. AND Toyota includes spare tires on every Hybrid they sell so the "There's no room cuz of the battery" argument FAILS completely. Toyota is once again kicking Honda's butt. Honda should sort this out ASAP or they'll continue to accrue bad press and lose sales.
You give up space but rather then trying to inflate flat tire in sub zero temperatures.
And how much u paid? If it doesn’t have a spare I don’t buy the car.
Good Choice!!
Last time when my tire's side wall got torn, it was late evening and tire shops were all closed.
My Hyundai Ioniq came with an air compressor and a sealant kit.
So I bought a "#1. spare tire kit $161", "#2. 12V Impact Wrench $40", and a "#3. tire plug kit $6".
Now I can survive in any situation. LOL.
For a nail, I will just plug it and put some air and go.
For a tear, I will put on a spare tire and go.
Thank you for producing this video.
Living in Canada, my 2024 Hybrid Touring model comes with the same 235/55 R19 wheels with Continental Cross Contact tires as your vehicle. I have investigated Modern Spare, asked them a lot of questions, to which they have promptly replied. The correct replacement/spare for my vehicle has the same 29” diameter rolling size that the 19” Honda wheels have. So, I do not have to worry about stressing the drive train, like I might if I was to put on a smaller diameter temporary spare.
Why is this important? Because this generation of CRV has a different AWD system than 5th generation models had, in that it is always engaged, and always delivering some torque to the rear wheels. Having a difference in rolling diameter could possible cause the computer to start throwing codes, over time as well as likely causing overheating issues. This AWD system also is fully engaged on reverse as well. (something Hondas Canada told me)
I will likely order up the Modern Spare kit, (tire, rim, tire bag, jack and wrench) and have it shipped to me here in Canada (it does not seem to be available anywhere in Canada). The catch is, factoring in the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Canadian dollar means that by the time I have it delivered, the cost is somewhere near $735.00 Canadian. Seems rather high, until I got a price on the Honda 19” black alloy rim with a Continental 235/55R19 Cross Contact mounted, then it seemed a fair buy. The plus of the MS kit is the space saving size - only 6 inches thick.
Where I live in Saskatchewan it is most common to drive for at least two hours at highways speeds to travel from one city to another, hence the reason for the MS Kit.
I have a cargo shade kit in the back of my 2024 Hybrid Touring, and the Modern Spare kit works well standing up behind the mechanism. (I keep the tire to the right to insure decent visibility while I'm driving). I dealt with Modern Spare directly and they do give discounts (I got a military discount; perhaps they have others). Have only been to BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec, but not Saskatchewan, but worked with RCAF personnel stationed in the U.S. (Montana) that were from there. Wish we had your weather! It got to 120F (48.9C) this summer here in Las Vegas. Modern Spare is a good, though expensive, option. Good luck!
I don't know about everyone else but when I go on a long trip (ie., summer vacation) I need the cargo space. The spare tire greatly reduces the precious cargo space. Really liked the 2024 Hybrid CRV but can't get past this issue. Wonder how many sales are lost due to this shortcoming.
Same here. An option would be to get a roof-rack mounted storage box, either for the extra luggage or the tire.
But then we're talking about $500 for the spare and $500+ for the box. Plus, I prefer to not load things on the roof, it reduces MPG and therefore partially defeats the extra fuel efficiency you're paying for when you get a hybrid.
It's a tough call.
I can tell you about one lost sale...mine.
Last year I canceled my crv hybrid sport touring deal because of no spare and no fog lights especially at this price. I live in a rural area without street lights. It would be a nightmare for me if the tire gets torn at night in the middle of nowhere. So I bought the toyota rav4 hybrid instead.
@@cloudysky9395 does the rav4 hybrid have a spare tire?
@rc2257 yes ,it comes with a spare tire.
That's a nice kit from Modern Spare. Easy to store and move around. I was planning to buy a CR-V spare tire assembly and jack kit from a wrecking yard to take with me on long trips.
Just bought this vehicle. We do long distance trips and will buy his.
Honda and Toyota should bring back the spare tire rack on the tailgate. Changes the sleek design but gives you the much needed spare. Good video, thanks.
I always wondered about this; felt uneasy about going on a roadtrip without a spare tire. Awesome video. I am glad there is a solution!
Glad it was helpful!
Just make sure you strap it down securely or else it will cause serious damage in an accident or hard braking
@@EhsOfBassyes very dangerous ina accident
got the same spare tire!!! i carry it on my thule box on long trips!! good buy
I think for the price the base hybrid sport crv (which is under 40k) is the best value there is. I got mine back in july and love it. it's a modern beautiful car with honda reliability. way better than a rav4 which is being upcharged and has added fees at every dealership (and has a dated interior).
Very dated interior
I'm buying this car as well I'm just waiting to see if Toyota introduces a new Rav 4 at this year's auto show for my final decision
@@6eth_LM even with the outdated interior the rav4 is nice, it's just that the toyota dealers everywhere have huge markups on it that it doesn't make it worth it.
@@6eth_LM i saw the 2024 one. Its just a 2023 with a bigger screen up front.
Not to mention rav4 front to back space passenger wise feels so small compared to crv.
Yes, I bought the Modern Spare kit for my 2024 CRV Hybrid. It easily stands up behind the cargo shade mechanism. I move it all the way to the right to make sure I can see well in the back. Gives me plenty of room. The lack of a spare is really the only defect of the CRV Hybrid series, especially when the RAV 4 and other hybrids designed it well enough for a spare.
How do you secure it to the side? Can you post pix?
@@kathybelskie5904i second that.
I would strap that down securely somehow. If you had a collision or a roll over, you don't want that launching at you and smashing your head like a squashed bug.
I used 500lb tie downs in my latest video, thanks for the suggestion!
this is exactly what I was looking for. I was going to take one winter/all season tire on long trips but that would have taken up lots of space in the trunk.
This one’s nice and sleek! Leaves enough room for everything else. ❤
We bought one and love it!!
Will Modern Spare lug nut remover remove flat tire lug nuts? Thanks for your video.
Interesting & informative. I think that Modern Spare will have a bright future, since so many cars are no longer coming with spare tires! The only thing I would have liked in your review was the PRICE of the spare kit you purchased. Thanks.
Thank you. Its a range~ 299-499 ish, i left it out since prices tend to change often these days.
It takes 1 minute to click the link to go to the site and see the price.
Thank you. Unfortunately the HONDA sales people at Herb Chamber never told me about this. I found out when I blew out a tire on the highway. The Honda 'repair' kit doesn't work for anything other than a slow leak. I would not have purchased the 2022 CRV Hybrid if I was told it does not come with a spare.
Sorry to hear that. Yea they forsure leave out the negative details
Would it fit, standing up in the second row with the seats up?
Very dangerous in a accident thou
Thanks for the review! What is the total weight of that complete spare in the bag?
47 lbs.
Driven my 2024 Hybrid Touring x-country twice now. I hate that there is no spare, but just signed up for AAA and resigned myself to calling for help if I ever get a severe damage to a tire on the road. If it's just a nail, I'll plug it and drive to the shop myself.
Nice find but I absolute refuse to buy any vehicle without a spare. I was driving an hit a massive pot hole once that actually bent my rim and flattened my tire immediately. It was awful weather and it was bad enough having to change the tire in it but it would have been even worse if I had to wait on a wrecker for a tow. NO THANKS!! Honda you need to do better at designing your vehicles.
Show how ridiculous the car industry has become , when you have to buy a spare tyre
😂😂 yup
do your research, there’s no space for the Spare Tire because of the hybrid engine
Car makers suck in 2024 (every last one of them)
@@moneyprinter7773 - wrong Honda is poorly designed. Watch Car Care Nut's review of the CRV and you can see how much space is wasted under the back panel. There was room it was just a poorly designed Hybrid. ALSO - the Toyota Rav4 Hybrid comes with a spare.

Thank you for all the information on the Modern Spare.tire. We are planning a road trip and are trying to pick up a spare for our 2024 Honda CRV Sport Touring Hybrid, it has 19" wheels. Will the Modern Spare work with our car? (Modern Spare doesn't have a 19" for sale)
Yes, they do have a spare kit that works with the Sport Touring model. The "wheel" is 19 inches, but the tire is the same size as the other hybrid models. Their website addresses this question very well. I am buying a Sport Touring myself, so I checked into it already!
Does the spare fit in the lower compartment area or does it take up space in the cargo area behind the back seats?
Does not fit below

Nothing on actually removing the standard tire and installing modern spare 😢
It’s okay.. All of my 20 years of driving. Only used a spare tire once. It’s super rare. I have roadside, also insurance for my tires and rims. It’s not that big of a deal.
but have they been tested for safety?
Every solution is only good as long as you "take your tire out" when your parked over night. Any tire visible will be ripped off in a hot minute along with broken windows to match.
Thanks for the video. Im sure Modern Tire loves the free advertising!
BTW- How did you get your window trim from chrome to black? Just bought a 2024 SL and didnt think that was a trim option. Looking to do that on my new ride
Advertising is not free. They had to send him a $500 spare tire. He's a CR-V influencer now...
Check my other video. But i deleted myself with 3M vinyl
I love my hybrid Hondas. I recently traded in my 3 rd accord for a CRV. My accords I had 4 flat tires and had to have my car towed to a dealer to have a new tire put on to replace the flat tires. It takes hours if not 24 hours to get a new tire. With this purchase I insisted on a spare. They gave me a full size tire. It takes up half my smaller than accord trunk space. It is heavy and don’t have enough room for it with all our travel baggage. This is a great idea. I just feel like a spare is not a good way to cut costs. The pump they give you instead of the spare did not work. My first flat I put the pump on and it didn’t reinflate the tire and caught on fire. My question is can you store stuff with the battery in the trunk on that extra wasted space where the battery is? I am afraid if I put liquids in there it could damage the battery or overheat it with cloth things in There.
The empty space around the battery is to keep the temperature down, in fact if you read the manual it says that under the passenger seat there is a duct that should not be blocked because it goes to the battery to cool down, there are also risks of electrocution and it is better not to open the trunk lid.
bought the 2024 crv lx best decision.
My 2024 CR-V Hybrid Sport came with a tire repair system. I understand that there could be severe tire damage that this would not work for but it should work for many situations for the avg driver. Did yours not come with one?
*Edit - I drive my CRV for Uber and Lyft in Seattle. I recently had it in the shop for a repair and was renting a Polestar 2 that had a severe flat. This also did not come with a spare and only had a flat repair kit which completely failed so I then had to hire a tow truck to take the Polestar 2 back to Hertz and I also lost an entire day of work and pay. I want to get the spare kit mentioned on this video but I have to keep my back area clear for passenger’s luggage. Not sure what I’m going to do at this point.
-Having had multiple tires damaged beyond repair over decades in personal and commercial vehicles- a spare which can be installed quickly is a must to me. Perhaps the "average" driver will never need the spare. Prudence, however recognizes the real potential for terminal tire damage beyond the scope of a repair kit. I won't have safety dependent on a car manufacturer deciding an average user won't need a spare. I like the CRV but lack of a spare or non-intrusive mounting point for a customer-acquired spare means no CRV purchase. There's room under the back mat for a well-engineered spare or mount- but Honda's (and others') decision to omit this is a deal-killer.
@@brianormond111 I just had a flat with a rental Polestar 2 and the repair kit completely failed to work and I still ended up waiting for a tow because it didn’t have a spare either. After this experience, I’ll have to get a spare for my CRV too.
It's my understanding that space is designed to keep the battery ventilated and cool, so it's not actually wasted space.
Idk. You can clearly see the tire well from non hybrid versions.
@@DrHondaCRV it is. But it's function is different in the hybrid for the battery.
In fact, no. The main reason is that elsewhere, the car is available as a plug-in hybrid. That battery fills that entire area.
Now my cousin can stop bugging me about not having a spare even though I have AAA. I will be getting this.
Nice!!
Is it hard to change tires? If I have one but I am old and not able to change to the spare in the event I have. Flat, is it advisable still to get one?
Only if you can find someone else to change it.. otherwise, why bother buying it? 😊
Trucks obviously still have spare tires. At least the F-150, Silverado, and Ram do. However, many vehicles are ditching them.
Toyota includes a spare tire in their hybrid SUVs. That alone makes me choice them over Honda.
I wish i would of done my research before buying a 2025 Crv hybrid but other than that i love the gas mileage and how much i save on gas
You might clarify that the Sport Touring is 19" OEM tire but this spare is 18". Dealership won't endorse this practice but it will work for short distances. Also you should make it clear this is a sponsored video. But you're correct, Modern Spare is filling a need for hybrid owners.
As long as the overall diameter of the spare rim and tire is close to the overall diameter of the factory rim and tire, there’ll be no issues. If the tire on the 18” spare rim had the same sidewall height as the tire on the factory 19” rim, then there would be a big problem. But as you can see, the sidewall height on the spare tire is noticeably taller than the factory tire’s sidewall. Since they decreased the diameter of the spare rim, they increased the sidewall height of the spare tire to come close or match the overall diameter of the factory rim and tire.
@@Wiggy74 that's correct! 18" and 19" rim diameter have the same bolt config there is not problem at all.
Same tire diameter, just the rim is 19 or 18
This company should design/produce a shelf to slide this spare tire under so you can still use the trunk liner as intended and have a level area to put things on.
Did you ever consider switching your tires out and getting run flats? I go back & forth to Vegas monthly and that lack of a spare makes me hesitant to get this car.
Nah. The fuel milage would tank. I just got the spare and strapped down in the trunk.
Run flats are a gimmick. They suck ass
plug kit. normally get nail every 25k. only time i was really nervous was in the yukon territory in canada. there was no cell signal. no way to call road side assistant. how much does the spare weight and how much? part 2 changing stock to spare. i don't even know how to use the stock air pump that came with the vehicle. $379.95 - $489.95
Even my $50,000 2015 Acura MDX did not come with a spare! First thing i bought was a spare kit from Acura, which, I believe, is no longer available. The car did come with a can of “sealant “ and an air pump but that is unusable for anything but a minor tire malfunction. JMHO.
My $50,000 Ford Explorer Sport had a spare. Honda's premium brand is Acura and they're clearly pushing this "no spare" BS on the public. Well I'm never buying one of their vehicles if it doesn't come with a spare. I don't care if there's an option like in the video. When you spend this much on a vehicle, you should expect a spare, jack and other emergency equipment. Also sealant is bad - it really messes up the inside of the wheels and tire shops hate to clean that crap up when you finally get a new tire installed.
@@jontnoneya3404 I couldn’t agree with you more. MDX gets a spare if the vehicle is 4x4. After buying my 2015 MDX not 4x4 I purchased their spare tire kit which is no longer available, I understand. We travel in some remote highways of CA and no spare is not an option but, IMHO, the vehicle is well worth it. Why not spend the $100 or so and have a spare? No spare is becoming more and more prevalent. Just be aware of this spare tire option.
@@raymondmiller2780 - well becasue the option in the video isn't $100 it's more like $500!! AND it takes up cargo space. If you need the space, sure you can take it out but I've had a tire fail on a local trip. I hit a pot hole HARD and it bent my rim and I was only like 5-10 miles from my home. I mean if this happens with a no-spare vehicle, now I've got to call AAA and hope they show up in an hour.
@@jontnoneya3404 the portable spare is an option and, certainly, your choice. It comes with a jack and tools to remove the tire so whether it’s $100 or $500 everything is included . Vehicles without spares are becoming more the norm so if you demand a spare your demand might not be granted by the manufacturer. Also, many hybrids don’t have spares because the spare’s space is taken up by the battery. When choices have to be made it’s ALWAYS up to the individuals wants, needs, and desires.

I suggest you to make sure that if you install fog lights it will not interfere with your original electrical warranty.
It frustrates me that the cr-v doesn't include fog lights. There's actually a space for them. I was hoping Honda would add them to the 2024 or 2025 models, as most manufacturers add minor upgrades in between major model revisions. The 2025 CR-V is now the 3rd year of this incarnation and it's pretty much identical to the 2023 models.
not having a spare tire is a turn off to purchasing a CRV hybrid. i have had a CRV EXL and liked that car.
this company appears to be selling quality kits. They seem to run around $500 for the tire + their case & kit or slightly less without the carrying case and accessories. I hate that i need to consider buying this kit for my hybrid vehicle. For those of you buying a new hybrid vehicle in the near future, just know that many do not come with spares & you should try to negotiate lowering the total purchase price of the new vehicle by how much you will need to spend on a kit like this.
Do you have any video or link you can share on how to remove the cargo panel correctly on the hybrid? Wife lifted the sill trim and the plastic tabs cracked on the edge in the process. It still sits snug under the rubber seal but I was looking to replace it. I'm still not sure how to slide the panel out without removing the plastic.
I also broke a tab taking it off. But I figured out how to replace it. It’s very delicate movements.
I don’t have a video as technically it’s not supposed to be open, so I don’t wanna promote it
It's not supposed to be opened and has nothing to do with the spare because it wouldn't fit anyway

How much it cost for spare tyre
$300-500
Not knocking the video or the idea as both are great. I have two issues in carrying a spare tile like that. One is safety. If you have to stop short at highway speeds that thing is going to go flying forward resulting in a very dangerous if not deadly situation. The other concern I have is I do long distance trips (hence the need for a spare) but when I do so I have a lot of luggage and pets I need to transport. So I have no room really for a spare tire carried in the back. It bums me as I was going to consider a CRV (possibly trade in a Tucson) but I don't think this will work for me. A Rav4 is the only other option but the reports of bad road noise really concern me.
Yea. Thanks for the headsup. The rear seats should keep it back there. But i will invest in tie down straps to keep it locked in
The solution to occupy half of the trunk with spare tire bag pretty ugly I would say...
These Tires are huge and have to call AAA or some muscle to change it anyway! It takes up too much space.
I wonder if we can put that on top of the car using the rack. What do y’all think?
Probably. But kill aerodynamics haha
I was thinking you’ll be seeing a lot CRV’s with spares on their luggage racks of people taking tours of the country. Poor engineering.
I love my 2023 CRV Hybrid, but sometimes I wonder if I should’ve gone with a Tesla model Y 🤔
Im not a fan of charge anxiety. And egg shaped cars 😅
Range anxiety is real on any extended drive.
they also don't come with a spare either.
How is the CRV not shaped like and egg?
It won’t fit underneath?
No. Battery is there. Not enough space
I’m curious about the space where the spare is traditionally. Is it safe to stow your tire jack and emergency kit in there with the battery?
Unless you can securely mount it. Probably not. The plug in version battery takes up most of the space. So i dont think the space is used for cooling or anything
All cars require rear crush space for federal safety regulations. If the OEM leaves it empty, do not add additional objects OR they will likely make contact with the battery in a rear crash.
How much for that brand of spare tire, you never mentioned $$$$$😮😮😮😮

It it not dangerous if the tyre isn’t screwed down, like it usually is in the boot (trunk)??

Not getting a hybrid after this video. There is no spare tire for 40k car. Also, you need to maintain like a regular car. Idk if the hybrid battery needs to be changed. That cost you arm and leg
I heard somewhere that if you have one tire that you have to replace, you have to replace all four on one of these type of cars. Any truth to that?
No. Not at all haha. Thats ridiculous
I think it depends how worn down the other tires are, if they are super worn it can cause issues to have one that is much less worn so in some cases you may have to replace 2 or even all 4 depending on the level of wear
True in case of AWDs.. Depends on the wear and tear of the tires. If they have even wear, it should be okay. But if you have used the three tires for 35-40 K miles and and you have a tire blow out, better to get all 4. For more info, see scotty kilmer channel
RAV4 has a spare tire even on the hybrid
How's that $6500 high voltage cable doing?? Don't know? Better look it up.
the problem with this tire would be that there is no way you can really not secure it in the trunk. in the event of a front crash , it will most likely crush the head of the rear passenger. Hence I would never buy this. If that means that i will be stranded on the road for a few hours so be it.
Theres cable tie down rings. Ratchet strapped it down good. Not going anywhere.
Ki will never buy a vehicle without a spare tire. I will never buy a vehicle with run flat tires and no spare. Like the Lexus NX 350. No thank you.
