Unlike fresh fruits, Chinese people generally believe that industrialized snacks are unhealthy foods and can only be eaten in small amounts. This is why Chinese snacks are packaged in small portions.
Yes, Chinese people attach great importance to the distinction between a 正餐(formal meal) and snacks. They don't take snacks like potato chips, dried fruits, dried meat, and popcorn as formal meal, because the nutrition is not enough.

The main reason you can see such a wide variety of products in Chinese supermarkets is that China is the manufacturing base for these products. Since each country has different product demands, they only need a few of these products. However, because China is the production base for all product varieties, it explains why you were surprised in the video to see so many product varieties you had never seen before, such as avocado-flavored Lay's.
China is NOT manufacturing foods for the World. Lays potato chips in your country for example, is not made in China. Chinese always celebrated the Variety of foods and taste. Lays simply adopted to Chinese market to stay competitive. As other western brands.

Remember more than 1.4 billion people are living in Chins. The government did a great job to provide affordable food to them.
Brav Chins!
I'm in Shenzhen, actually there are lots of Warlmart or Carrefour stores shutdown during the recent 10 years. Most of people use APPs or platform(e.g., JD or Taobao) to order everything online. only the parents want to go to the store or market

Unlike fresh fruits, Chinese people generally believe that industrialized snacks are unhealthy foods and can only be eaten in small amounts. This is why Chinese snacks are packaged in small portions.
That's true

对的,零食一般偶尔吃一点就够了,不能当作一顿饭吃。主要大多零食只有碳水和重盐糖,没有膳食纤维和维他命成分
Yes, Chinese people attach great importance to the distinction between a 正餐(formal meal) and snacks. They don't take snacks like potato chips, dried fruits, dried meat, and popcorn as formal meal, because the nutrition is not enough.
2:20 you guys really should try 话梅 (salty plum or dried plum or plum jerky thing) and there are tons of different flavours or types. Basically, they are pickled plums or dried plums, with a very unique taste, a mixture of flavors. Imagine the five flavors of sour, sweet, bitter, spicy and salty. Plums are a mixture of two or more of these flavors. And the softness and hardness of the taste vary depending on the variety of plums.
26:40 are lotus seeds. They are a superfood that can be used in desserts or added to broth as an aromatic. They can also be used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Dried lotus seeds can be used for making desserts like pastry fillings (eg for moon cakes) or sweet congee, or in savoury dishes such as chicken or pork rib soup.
Few people in China go shopping in supermarkets anymore. They use various apps to order meals and supermarket shopping software, including buying fresh seafood, and so on. Any vegetables, fruits, and snacks available in supermarkets and markets will appear on the online shopping platform, and there is no need for express delivery fees. The delivery time is basically within 30 minutes. Even if you only spend 0.1 US dollars on a green onion or a green vegetable in online shopping, it will be delivered to your home for free within 30 minutes. This is the most surprising. Including purchasing household appliances, such as the JD app in China. If you purchase a TV, washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioner, and other household appliances before 9am, they will be delivered to your home for installation in the afternoon or evening of the same day. Efficiency with comparable speed

The lotus seeds can be used in soups, especially Chinese herbal soups. The seeds can also be candied. They're also made into a paste that can be used in pastries like in mooncakes.
Thanks for sharing! I think many of the small single snack packets sell for 10 or 20 for 19.50 Yuan. And the bigger packets sometime 2 or 3 for the stated price. I notice the lemon Oreo price 11.8 Yuan is for 2 packets. The preserved eggs could be salted eggs.
The fungus you've never seen before are called morels. They grow wild in the US, I've recently started seeing them in stores in the last few years.
2:08 Yes, that's why Chinese people are thin, because we want to eat potato chips, but we can't eat too much because it's not healthy, so sometimes when we want to eat potato chips, we buy a small package to cheat my Taste buds😂
It’s not potato chips that make you fat. It’s because you eat everything together. Starch, sugar plus meat will make you fat. You have to eat ether vegetarian or keto but you can’t mix two together.
@@mariajones8304 Yes yes, potatoes are starchy, but if you also eat other fats, they add up to make you fat
28:22 These are preserved salty duck eggs that typically go with congee in China and parts of SE Asia.
I hignly recommend you have a visit of the Global Centre of Chengdu. It really shocked me that is considered covered the most floor area in the region. Its located just by the subway
It’s so fun to have everything new translated. Good for you. 😊👍
Pangdong provides employees with unhappy leave, and if employees are unhappy with their work, they can use unhappy leave. Many of their items will have their purchase prices marked on price tags. Pangdonglai also warmly welcomes customers to come into the store to take photos, and welcomes any dissatisfied feedback
FYI, Meiji is a Japanese brand, not Filipino or Korean brand. I really like their melty kiss chocolate.
love your videos!!!♥

the eggs in walmart have a little expensive, becuase generally there are neighbour residents would shopping in walmart; and you can find easily 15 yuan for 30 eggs(fresh and even more low price) in farmer market or wholesale market
What’s so impressive about this Walmart trip is that it shows China has such abundance and diversity of food supply and at such affordable prices. This is why the living standards in China are incredible. You just don’t have the means to eat this well in the supposedly rich west, both on the supply and demand sides.
6:56 *Taro with Sea Salt and Black Pepper* Lays Potato Chips. It would be extremely helpful if you can show the packages to the camera head on and clearly long enough for viewers to get a screen shot for identification.
Yes the camera was all over the place in this video..felt somewhar dizzy at times..they are too excited i think
Excellent video loved the supermarket next time please show more of the meat and fish section especially the pricing, thanks 😊🇦🇺🇺🇦
Haha, I could recognize this Walmart from the dumpling restaurant at the main entrance! We went there once last summer.

Regarding Lotus seeds, they use the seeds both cooked, in desserts, and raw or roasted. To celebrate the New Year, a box of sweets, symbols of good omen, including candied lotus seeds, is traditionally offered.
The black egg packet at 28:22 is a whole salted (preserved) duck egg wrapped in salted charcoal clay to preserve it.
在上海已经像沃尔玛,家乐福这些大型超市已经很少了,上一次去逛都是好几年前了😅
26:35 is Tremella fuciformis, Commonly used to make desserts in Asia。36:11 is Stachys affinis,an aquatic plant。enjoy in China
Oh those teas look so nice, making me want to go out and buy some nice tea ❤
Both oishi and Meiji are Japanese words. I don't know what country they are from. But a lot of stuff sold in Walmart stores in the USA are actually made in China. I recall there was an Auchan in Shanghai. Also IKEA.
OISHI from Philippines, Meiji is a Japanese brand. Although they are foreign brands, But they also has local factories in China.

Hello, see you again. I pass by here every day on my way to and from get off work.
36:07 are pickled veggies, they are usually spicy and tart, some are a tad sweet.
还有一个重要的因素 中国人是世界上最会吃的民族,如果你不经常研发新的口味来满足,他们的商品根本没人买
China is NOT manufacturing foods for the World. Lays potato chips in your country for example, is not made in China. Chinese always celebrated the Variety of foods and taste. Lays simply adopted to Chinese market to stay competitive. As other western brands.
Little discs by the dried shrimps are “虾片”, they need to be fried first, will puff up and expand a couple sizes bigger, texture like potato crisps and tastes like seafood.
lotus seeds in China, in Guangdong, we use it with crystal sugar to make sweet soup what we consider it'll helpful in clear away heat or eliminate dampness. For example, The green bean soup is considered do well in clear away heat, detoxify, and relieve heat and troubles. and the lily lotus seed sweet soup is considered can moisturizing the lungs. There are too many kinds sweet soup in China, so you guys can go some where sells sweet soup to have a try, but as far as I know, there are not many local sweet soups in Sichuan(I'm not from Sichuan and don’t know much about it), there are some similar things called bingfen(ice jelly). oh maybe in Southeast Asia their sweet soup were similar to Guangzhou's. so may be you have tasted them.

The natural scenery in Sichuan is very beautiful, such as Jiuzhaigou, Siguniang Mountain, Huanglong, and so on. Why didn’t you go to any of these places?
I love eating Walkers crisps when I was writing my assignment. The vinegar flavour of Walkers crisps was impressive.
The lotus seeds can be used for making Cantonese soup. Cantonese soups tends to focus more on the healthy aspects based on Traditional Chinese Medicine. My mom just throws a hand full of dried lotus seeds in the soup often when she makes it.
Mushrooms are fungus by definition. The noise could come from a packaging machine or a conveyor since home delivery is also a part of their business.
Many young people like me in big cities in China seldom go to the supermarkets. We usually shop online or go to the convenience stores like 7-11.
love how all the bags of chips are around 7 yuan. which is just over $1USD. here in US those bags are $4-5 each unless you can get a 2 for $6 sale or something... and lays is made in US too. We get ripped off for everything in US
Normally I don't shop at Walmart but I think I would give the Chinese version a try. Like the snack selection. Would like to see the ingredients list.
The best supermarket in the world is Pangdonglai in Xuchang, China. It is not an exaggeration. Many people in China visit Pangdonglai supermarket as a tourist attraction. If you take a taxi to Xuchang, every driver will praise Pangdonglai greatly. The whole Xuchang people will take pride in having the best supermarkets in the world. To be honest, as a Chinese person, I don’t know much more about the foods in this video than you do... Maybe it’s a stereotype, but I always feel that these packaged foods are unhealthy, as are processed foods like McDonald's. I prefer to buy fresh vegetables and cook meals myself.

That pickled white stuff that look like worm is actually a kind of vegetable root. It has a crunchy texture n a little sweet. I tried the fresh ones, stir fried with celery and other vegetables, for the 1st time the last I was there few months back. It is delicious.😊
5:40 are fava beans, which is a very popular snack in china. i highly recommend them.
I traveled to New York years ago, and I noticed there were not many supermarkets there, we went to a small supermarket and it was very crowded , I wondered where do people shop in New York.
How do clerks know the prices of unpackaged bulk foods? Is there some sort of ID code that customers write on bags of such products? If so, I looked for codes around the prices and didn't see them. Are they in Chinese? Or could it be, rather than codes, you just write the prices?
The yogurts were behind the milk. You just missed it 😂 We love yogurt

Those are shrimp/prawn cracker chips before they are deep fried for freshness. You can buy bags of them already processed at 7-11 in China !
23:44 Those mangos are WAY better than larger ones. They are one of the best varieties of mangoes to eat because they don't have fiber,/strings the flesh his smooth and the flavor is excellent. Don't judge by size. Common to find in the United States.
They are call kidney mangoes. It’s very sweet.
If you can take a look at the DL Supermarket in Xinxiang, you will see the ceiling of Chinese supermarkets. How he beat Walmart and Carrefour.
At least three people are dead and 10 wounded as a man carrying a gun opened fire at a grocery store in South Arkansas in the US in Jun 22. but nobody talk about these.
No … most of the world doesn’t want to talk about the mass killings in the US because the country has ridiculous gun laws that not enough of the citizens want to change. The emotional investment of hearing of all these deaths when the people of the US don’t want to fix the problem is too much.
I recommend you to try local flavor chips, and local snacks.
