Thanks for the video girls! I followed your plan and my countertops turned out great!
Good tutorial
I would have liked a better shot showing the finished results
Thanks! If you check out our Instagram we have pictures of the final look on there!
So y’all only sanded at the end of coating all the diff coats of concrete?! Or did you sand in between? If NOT- why do some people sand in between? Trying to save time and effort over here 🤪🙋🏼♀️also, do I have to remove caulk? Some people do, but some people don’t?!
I did a light sanding between each coat if there were deep lines but nothing major. I really took my time getting things as smooth as possible when applying so I didn’t have to sand much.
Frugal It Out! That’s super helpful!!! Did y’all remove caulk?
@@HowtoFaithALife ours actually didn’t have any
Food safe? TY for the info. We Could not really see the end results. Why? Close ups and different angles should be shown if you are proud of the work! You seem proud, so pics please.
How did you merge together the different sections you did? I’m in the process of doing mine now and so far on 2 coats where I have 2 sections meet that part stays noticeably darker and really stands out. I’ve given it days to dry and it’s not going away.
Also did you have any issues with air bubbles or pin holes? My first coat went fine and my second coat I could not get one batch to be bubble free?
Hey ladies just want to say that me and my wife enjoy your content. We're kind of shocked at the limited amount of subscribers and viewers. You both have fun likeable characteristics and good camera presence, and because you are delivering value it's only fair that I give value to you I think you two could be RUclips rockstars! So Target more hits you have to use Target words and phrases in your titles such as "affordable ways to" "_____ ideas on a budget" or "DIY _____" etc etc just a suggestion either way will continue to watch and try some of these ideas ourselves. Good luck!
Vigil Family Channel Thanku! We both had a rough year including I had to go back to work 50hrs a week with my commute, but- I’m done may so we plan to hit it hard now that this is a thing apparently lol- thx for ur kind words
60 bucks?!?!?! What an impact for like no money,
Yeah you really can't beat the price!
Although, I am not a fan of the industrial look, I thoroughly enjoyed your energy and instruction. #NewSub
see-ment lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard you guys say mix 1 part concrete powder and one part water. The box is two parts Powder and one part water. Did the one-to-one ratio work out well? Why did you do one to one instead of 2 to one?
I think that was a mistake because i did the one part water one part mix and it was very thin. then i did what the instructions said for my next coat and it was thick like this video shows :) It is two cups mixture to one cup water.
What about over tiles? Anyway good job!!!
Why not roll the sealer with a roller?
Please post your list of products used. Great video but now I am struggling to pace through the video again and again to find proucts used. So frustrating! I searched for Henry products and there are so many to choose from. A written list of products would be so nice and convenient for your viewers. The final view of counters would also be nice, with slow close up shots. Also, it would be great to see counters after the one and two year usage. Do you continue to seal the concrete every year or so? You have cute camera personalities so keep up the RUclips videos.
Thank you! We will try to get the list up soon! We just posted a video of how they are holding up a year later. We’d love for you to check it out!
I asked the same question with no response yet but the Heather finish is number 549 .. google that. I bought it at Home depot for 17 bucks. I also did research for the other type of sealer to put on after the impregnater and some have used a product called Safecoat Acrylacq food grade.. Some liked it some said it was ok. Im still searching on what to put on the countertops after i do the impregnate.
everyone knows the gestation period of counter tops is 11months! Hahahaha! great vid girls!
I wanted so many videos on how to do this but yours was the best. I finally have concrete countertops! Ours used to look just like yours and now they look fantastic. I used a matte sealer instead and it worked great. Thanks again ladies!
I’m so glad it helped! Thanks for watching!!
Hi which sealer did you use? Just 1 ?
I believe the Behr sealer is not food grade. It would be advised if doing this to your kitchen, to use a food grade sealant like Stone Care.
Did you sand in between coats or only after the 3rd coat?
I did a very light sanding in between coats
Is there a sealer - thanks for making this look so easy
How well has this held up? Behr Wet Look Sealer bottle says not to use over oil based products and 511 Impregnator is oil based.
It’s held up really well for both of us. I have had to reseal a few places but I expected that
Porque no se peinan
Thanks for the excellent lesson.
I used a brush for the 511 sealer. It worked well. I waited 5 minutes and wiped excess off, but there was hardly any excess because it soaked it up.
Can I put a color into it?
Do know if paint laminate sheets? My cabinets like yours but the inserts around the wood doors are laminate and are ugly blue.
Katherine Canon I don’t know but if u go into a sherwin Williams paint shop they r experts and would know what to use!
Great video - thanks! I'm gonna do it!!
Can i take the laminate out and just spread the feather finish over the woodpart?
Actully if you can chip all laminate off, I would. If you don't scratch it up enough the feather finish will separate as it dries and bow and crack. I know because it happened to me. I had to sand it down, then take a box knife and really gouge the crud out of the laminate. The initial sanding with a 60 grit flapper wheel was not enough. I also scratched it with an old knife after that. The box knife did the trick. In hindsight, my countertops would probably last longer if I had removed all the laminate from the wood. Good luck on your project.
Hi Girls, was the $60 only for that one section of counters? Or did you later do all the counters in your kitchen with that same amount? Just wondering! I think this would be a great project while we are stuck home during this Pandemic! Hopefully I can get supplies mailed to my house or do curbside pick up!! They looked beautiful! How are they to keep clean now that you have had them a while??
That was $60 to do my whole kitchen and I even had some left over to do my bathroom! I know some things are back ordered on amazon but you could always check out our links to see if they have them in stock 😌
@@FrugalItOut Im definitely going to check it out! Thank you
Is this a laminate countertop?? Did somebody say??
Yes the countertops I put the feather finish over were laminate
After 3 years how are they now on july 2021? Did they crack at all being thin concrete?
No cracking! But they could probably use another round of sealant on them. But they have definitely held up way better then I thought they would have!
Excellent and thank you so much for your reply
Can I use this product on old ceramic tile..?
We have had a couple subscribers do it over ceramic tile and said it held up well
Would this work on tile counters? Enjoyed immensely the demo and your camera interaction.
what a beautiful smile
If you get a chance, could you post a list of the supplies you used?
Countertops look great. Did you know in NEEDTOBREATHE’s song Difference Maker, the term “difference maker” is kind of an insult? They are poking fun at self-righteous Christians. “I am the only one that speaks to Him. I am the friendliest of friends with God.” Relisten to the song. You probably don’t want to name your church group that and wear t-shirts with that label. Not being mean. I would want someone to tell me.
Thank you. Our church has been using the phrase years before the song was released. Difference Maker comes from our church’s mission statement, to see people far from God become passionate Christians who make a difference in the world.
Ooooh that’s an unfortunate coincidence. I just cringe for people who adopted it as a slogan because the song made it popular. I’m like, guys, noooo. 😂
Lol I had actually never heard of that song before you mentioned it. I just looked it up and listened to it this morning
Nicely done. It looks like you repainted the wall to match the concrete.
You both did such a great job! How many boxes did you use to complete that area?
Just one box did my kitchen and I had a little left over to do half my bathroom
Wait do y’all only do 1 coat?
No we did three layers of the concrete
I believe you are supposed to use a blow torch to get the bubbles out
That is with epoxy.
Camera too far away to get a good visual of surface
We have another video of a year update that shows the counters up close. We’d love for you to check that out to get a better look
Any tips on how would you do this around a drop in sink? (:
Could you do this if your countertops have a scary out dated tile edge?
Yeah you might have to make it a little thicker so you don’t see grout lines but it would definitely be doable!
What is the durability of doing this?
Not quite a year yet but they have held up very well! Amy has had hers for almost 2 years now and hers also have held up very well
We now hav a follow up video watch it- we were surprised!
girls rock
Hi can you do an update on the condition of the cement counter tops? Thanks for the great diy vids!
We actually have one. If you check out our other videos it’s called “DIY Feather concrete counters brutally honest update!!! (1.5 years later)”
How about a rounded edge countertop?
You can do the same thing and just form it with your hands
Ok so im doing this countertop right now and i want to let you all know it is NOT one cup cement and one cup water!! lol That makes it way to thin.. the packaging says one cup water and TWO cups cement! I did the one part water and cement for the first layer.. then i did THREE layers of one part water and two parts cement mixture.. .then my last layer i did one part cement and about 3/4 cup of water because i wanted it to be smoother for my last application.. so far it looks really good!! Today i am sanding it and then will apply the impregnater and i also bought another application to go over the impregnater.. i will let you know how it worked out!
Catherine Beavers was it the same brand we used? Maybe there is some inconsistency in their product or hard water vs soft idk? :)
@@FrugalItOut lol.. I used Heather finish 549. I did one cup of each and it was way to runny. To get it like how thick you show in the vid i had to do what the directions said.. two parts powder to one part water. :) Its coming out so nice! I just did the last part tonight. I used this sealer called Tuff Duck. Its all natural and i found it online on Amazon for under 30 bucks. It had good reviews.. we will see how it goes. I just applied it tonight.
Catherine Beavers so how’d it go?
@@HelenaNaturale it went pretty well. You do have to keep up with it and be careful because oils can go through it. I was thinking of putting epoxy over the countertops so i don't have to do so much upkeep! Other than that i love it.
Wow.. its been almost a year since i did my countertops!! lol I was wondering how long i had them for! lol My post was 11 months ago! This takes some time but i think it was worth it. You have to be careful with these countertops. Mine did patina a lot but i think it makes them look better. I am also going to try to touch them up and then put epoxy over them because it is hard to upkeep. You have to be careful when cooking on them next to the sink and the oven. I think Epoxy will make it much easier. I hope!
How do you guys clean the countertops? Does a regular multipurpose counter spray work or do you need something special?
I don't use anything special usually just multisurface windex or multipurpose method spray.
That last one was Kerrisa this is Amy- I use those antibacterial kitchen wipes usually or dish soap and water
Great video. I think I'm gonna do it!
Looking good! Great job!
You two are immediately likeable. The camera loves both of you ! That is as important as technique and content. You have them both covered nicely. I would watch any further videos.
Glenn
cuties
Great job. I’ve watched a few other videos and no one else uses the impregnator sealer, just the final sealer on top. Is there a reason for the impregnator and will just the final sealer work?
Honestly I did my bathroom counters and just used the top wet look sealer and I feel like it definitely hasn't held up as well. When my kids leave their wet toothbrushes sitting on the counter it leaves rings that don't go away. The impregnator keeps stains from going deep into the counters so I definitely recommend using it!
TY. You all did mention that earlier!
How long do you wait between coats of concrete??
About 30 min or so. Or until it looks completely dry
Thanks! that was cool!
Is that a Royals World Series cup!?!? #raisedroyal
It is! 😉
Stephen Weigel shore is! We had lots and lots don’t worry we love the royals :)
Ate the products food safe?
Pure Royalty Life Coaching- Dr. B. Probably not but we don’t eat off our counters or cut on them
I watched 8 mins to only see a split second of the finished product.
N. Laurista sorry bout that, go watch the 2year later follow up video we made
I finished my countertops and I love them. Time will tell how well I did. The only two things I did differently was that put Bondo on the seam between my oak edge and I shaped it to look like the edge of rock. My countertops were tile with grout lines. I filled in the grout lines with Bondo also, sanded and then started the process as you did. The other thing I did differently is that I applied 4 coats of the Wet Look Sealer. The instructions said you could apply up to 4 coats. It seems ok, and they look really good. I wish I could send you a picture. Thanks so much for posting.
Cheryl Kitchen Thanks for sharing this! I am also working with a tiled countertop, so your info is extremely helpful. Thanks again! 🙂
I followed your video and my counter looks amazing . Everyone complement me all the time . Wish I can put a pic .
How exciting! We would love to see a picture! Send us a message on Instagram.
I'm going to attempt this project, how well has it held up so far?
It has held up really well. The only thing that has gone wrong is I accidentally spilled ant killer on my counters and it ate away the sealant so I had to patch it back up but for the price, I can't complain!
Frugal It Out! So do you think an oil based sealer would have prevented that from happening? Or did it go through your impregnated stuff as well?
It ate through the impregnator too. It turned the concrete back to its powder form. It was really weird. Stuff is pretty powerful I guess
Frugal It Out! And I bet you still have those pesky little critters.
Is that a food safe sealant?
Meghan Richards Probably not but we don’t eat off our counters or cut on them
where can i pick myself up blonde that is hot and useful, turned out nice good work.
The girls with the long hair couldn't concentrate cuz of your messy hair... Lol 🤣 final results video too short 🙄
Braiding Doll R yes sorry bout that, go watch our year later follow up you’ll see lots of close ups :)
No way, that has to look like crap close up. I have done concrete countertops and there ain't no way in hell I would use that stuff.
kirkm63 watch our 2 year follow up- I was surprised how it held up and looks!
Another question... Behrs Wet Look Sealer has TERRIBLE reviews. Any tips??
It's honestly held up well for both of us. I'm not sure what the reviews say but I haven't had an issue with it in addition to the impregnator sealer. By itself it's definitely not great bc it does leave water rings on the counter tops. I tried to go without the impregnator on my bathroom counters and you can see right where my kids leave their toothbrushes every morning bc of the water rings
The reviews say that it leaves a chalky milky white look
@@melissakoertje2762 I like that look..lol
Melissa Koertje the reviews might b for an actual sidewalk- idk :)
They doing all this just to make me a sammich...
