- Here's Cal Waste's Perkins Split Body Dodge doing manual trash in Arnold. When I met up with the driver he was just finishing up the last stops before making the first of many trips to the transfer station to dump. About a month after I filmed this, Cal Waste replaced this with a split rear loader.
Thanks to the driver, Chase, for allowing me to film! Hope you find this.
This style packer reminds me of the mini trucks that crawl around Italy. I suppose it’s simple and low spillage, but a real pain for manual loading and you definitely can’t pack as much as a comparable-sized rear loader with a slide and sweep architecture.
yep, the packer is definitely not meant for a high density set out route like this.
Man, those bear sheds give me PTSD to TTSD. I don’t miss them at all. This method seems to be alright for them, though I bet during the summers and winters it gets old with doubling back to the transfer station every 30 minutes lol. Pretty neat to see the compactor working on this rig, not much footage of one of those in action. Do you know if people pay more up there to have cart service, or do they charge by the volume you set out each week, if at all? These Californian mountain communities are definitely a hurdle when it comes to efficiency in collection operations, with low set out rates, steep terrain and wild animals. You should go back again at some point to see how the driver likes the rear loader. Nice video!
Thanks Eli! The driver said 4th of July week was just constantly driving back and forth to dump, he didn't finish up till around 7 that day. Cal charges by volume, $30/month for a 32, $63 for a 64 and $105 for a 96 with every other week recycle included.
Well this is unique, to say the least! Cool to see the blue manuals used for recycle, those white sorting labels printed on them remind me of the skinnier Triple R's out west on the coast. Neat that a garbage truck can technically be this small and simple haha. Thanks for making the effort to film this!
ok this is a unique operation here. I didn't even know perkins bodies had packers lol
for the driver's sake, I'm glad they replaced the truck with a bigger on; i'd hate to have to keep driving back and forth.
Awesome Video
Interesting method to of collection, exactly how many trips to the transfer station does he usually take and is it that far from this route? Never seen a packer mechanism like that before, very nice. Great that he got an RL now, so he can probably fit the whole route in one go now right?
He usually does 3-4 trips on a good day. The week before I filmed this was 4th of July and he said he did 6 trips back and forth to the transfer station. The transfer station is just on the outskirts of Arnold so he's no more than 10 minutes away at any given time. And yes! He should be able to fit everything into one load. Thanks!
Cool
Awesome video dude.
At 6:32 what is that stuff that he be putting right there instead of putting that stuff in the back of the garbage truck????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤨🤨🤨🤨
gotta take full advantage of every space on this small truck. If it's a large bag or large pieces of cardboard that won't pack well, might as well put it there and throw it off at the transfer station.
@@zp12684 oh ok.
@@zp12684 also by the way i like watching these videos.
Why was this route never automated?
A side load would have a very hard time maneuvering through the route. Also, the streets are very narrow so carts on both sides could be problematic.
Love this truck!
