I feel like were elden rings music shines is the boss fights, they really add to the mood and honestly add alot more tension with how different they are for each boss, speaking of the school, I like the fact that part of the vocals for the boss there are made by the enemies your fighting in that first half, as for the regular ambient noises I honestly really dont mind them, its refreshing to here them especially after getting out of a tense situation in the game there just so peaceful and open at the same time
My thoughts exactly. The ambient stuff is more about immersion than sounding good. Hell, until ER, souls areas usually had zero music, I’m assuming for the sake of immersion. I wonder why they changed that… regardless, I think the area stuff is fine, and obviously the boss music is epic as always.
Highly recommend Bloodborne and Silent Hill 2’s soundtracks. They’re possibly the greatest amongst game music and add a lot to the game experience. SH2 is a far easier listen than the dark intense gothic choir of Bloodborne however. Yamaoka’s guitar work and sound design is flawless, it’s a literal experimental rock album. As for other game OSTs in the great category, I’d recommend: -Shadow of The Colossus -Journey -The Last of Us (heavily acoustic and percussion-based) -Ocarina of Time (a classic, it even got a prog-rock version of the entire thing on RUclips) -NieR series (very bizarre but impressive musically) -Persona 5 (if you like acid-jazz) -Doom or Doom Eternal (the greatest metal in game history) -Resident Evil 4 (2005) -Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series (has wonderful piano pieces) -Metal Gear Solid series (agree that Metal Gear 1’s music sucks, but the rest of the series rules, especially Snake Eater) -Death Stranding (a lot of licensed indie music, from post-rock to acoustic to electronic, the game is mid but the music, awesome) -Metroid Prime As for the bad, check out Spider Man 2’s Pizza Delivery theme, “My Heaven” from Silent Hill 1, the Sonic ‘06 soundtrack, Bible Adventures, Bubsy 3D, Yoshi’s New Island. Truly awful. I actually like the Mansion Basement theme from RE Director’s Cut. Or maybe it’s so bad it’s good. But great video as always!
Great picks, the only ones I don't agree with are literally the ones from games I've yet to play. What do you think of the Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds soundtracks?
I think Persona 3 and 4 have good osts too just not as consistently great as 5s but there’s phenomenal tracks in them. I also think the xenoblade series is worth mentioning, it ranges from stuff that’s fairly standard jrpg sounding but incredibly well executed, to some really unique and fun stuff, especially all of the DLCs’ ost which have a lot more of a jazz influence.
In all honesty? They had no fucking deal making Vordt's theme that fucking rad. So, honestly, I get why, at least, I would feel it is mid outside of some themes like Radahn's, though it only gets interesting by the end, when it turns into a mournful burial.
Tbh The Path is more like an art project/story using “video games” as a medium to depict a story and it is pretty charming if you don’t just walk on the path like the game’s entire thing is you deliberately don’t do that. You’re supposed to fuck around and find out. You find wolves and basically “so what’s your trauma?” I know that The Path isn’t exactly a game, I mean it’s a walking simulator but walking simulators aren’t bad (unless they are) but they aren’t inherently bad. If I remember correctly The Death of Edith Finch is more of a walking simulator but it’s still a really good piece of work. It should be exciting that people are seeing it as a legit means to tell a story after so much has been sorta trivialized but but it has gotten way better in recent years and I don’t remember when the game came out. Anywhore ngl I think it looks kinda shit, it’s probably janky as hell, and from what I’ve heard it’s almost fucking impossible to find each girls’ wolf like it’s so easy to get lost. I also like Minecraft music but like it’s actually pretty overrated with how it’s treated like it’s a good soundtrack and elevates the game. Like it’s perfect for where it is and is pretty nostalgic which feels like when people talk about it they’re hearing them through Also there’s like fucking Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda which is yeah that’s a Nintendo game they music a lot Also the disturbing lack of Hades, Hollow Knight, Omori, and Portal 1+2 music is >:( Also I’d say that Needy Streamer Overload has a good sound track along with Fear and Hunger1+2
Don't get me wrong, the Minceraft soundtrack is absolutely amazing, but I'd be reluctant to call it the best video game soundtrack of all time. For one, have you heard Nier Replicant/Automata's soundtracks? What about Outer Wilds? Chrono Trigger? Persona 4 and 5? Disco Elysium? All of them are games with banger soundtracks.
Outer Wilds and Persona 4 and 5 slap so hard like Outer Wilds is incredibly fitting and it’s really neat when there’s multiple instruments and Persona 5 has fuckin bangers Beneath the Mask and Life Will Change is some memorable Beneath the Mask is exceptionally good for when it is raining
Minecraft is simply just very good ambient music, all the feelings of perfection are because the music has been imbued with memories of nostalgia and longing
Fun fact the composer of the path is jarboe who is an experimental musician and a member of experimental band swans i do admit not his best work though
Fun fact the music of sonic chronoicles sounds so generic and midi because its incomplete richard jacques the composer wanted to make remixes of old sonic tunes so he made midis of the songs as placeholders however the game was rushed so they could only use the placeholder midi there are some complete songs the title theme and the battle themes arent midi and are complete and yeah there pretty good
My personal favorite soundtrack is the Ori and the Will of the Wisps ost. It’s beautiful and is miles above literally every other video game ost I’ve ever heard.
I always love the Ape Escape soundtrack since I was little. As well as the ambience from Silent Hill 2. Those is what I consider as great video game music. But I agree with you on the bad video game music.
God bless you but the Elden Ring world music is purposeful, they like just putting bare bones slightly unnerving tracks in the background. The boss music is where they put the real thought and talent. This is probably not the case, but makes me wonder if you just kept getting your ass kicked by the bosses and only heard the open world music 😂 - just Melania's boss theme alone makes it better than bad haha.
I don’t agree with you. You mostly chosen really old video game music so there is no doubt about it the music might sound “worse” or “bad” than today than it sounded like 20-30 years ago. Also the 1920 speaker could interpret the music much better than today’s basic speakers. Get some info man.
For you to call the Elden ring mid makes me think that you haven’t even beaten Margit yet because the boss battle music is where Elden ring really shines
I found this Pokemon clone on Steam called Entodrive and I had some cash to burn so I thought "why not give it a try"? I haven't played much of it but it's not... A bad game. Sure there are some things it could improve on but I'm not about to go out and get a refund or anything. It's music tho? That sticks out like a sore thumb. And not in a good way. I shouldn't be too hard on the poor composer. Guy literally made the whole game. But yeah I really don't see it replacing the Undertale soundtrack. And if it does, it probably will for the wrong reason.
it's great in the context of Minecraft itself very fitting ambient and soft tones but i dont think ill ever go out of my way to listen to it outside of Minecraft
In my opinion the worst video game soundtrack of all time is yoshis crafted world soundtrack its a perilously out of tune off key childish music that overuses the tin whistle like crazy and are also really annoying
Bro has obviously never fought Godrick the Goated if he thinks Eden rings soundtrack is mid.
it is so bad. you must've never played other souls games.
I rlly dont like ambient music in elden ring but THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK!??????
THE SAME OST WITH MALIKETH, RYKARD? MOHG? THE FINAL BATTLE? MALENIA?????

-Resident Evil 4 (2005)

Like I know the game sucks, but the soundtrack is at least decent

In all honesty? They had no fucking deal making Vordt's theme that fucking rad.
