- I'm taking you on a plant tour of the historic Sunken Gardens here in St. Petersburg Florida! This beautiful oasis has endless amounts of tropical plants, as well as some cacti, succulents, fish, and birds! Tampa Jay and I had an awesome time visiting our first botanical garden together and I hope you all enjoy as well!

I cannot believe how much I learned walking with you here at Sunken. You have taught me so many awesome things about horticulture and plants on your channel, before we even met. It was quite a honor and it meant the world to me to visit Sunken with you! It was amazing and I’m super happy this went down. I couldn’t wait to watch this and revisit this day again vicariously. You did an amazing job as always. I love how we always point out the same and different. You definitely know your stuff babe. This was one of your best! I am so happy we were blessed with such a beautiful day to visit this iconic / beautiful roadside attraction!!

I had a season pass at Sunken Gardens years ago and you can bring up to 5 guests each visit so that was a great deal, I used to bring friends and do photo shoots for them and just stop by myself to enjoy the beautiful gardens

Hope you get to see this given that it's a few days past, though this will leave you shaking your head. So about fifteen years back I brought back to Wisconsin some bougainvillea from Arizona. I don't know how my mothers husband does it, but he was able to get that to actually grow and REALLY grow in this frozen wasteland! But...he also was able to get cacti to grow...and yes this is all outside! They'd always survive the winters!
I ended up buying the house, when they moved, and it was still growing! I sold the house a few years back and like many people, did a drive by about six months later. Now I sold the house to an arborist that works for the state. This will break your heart...the guy cut it all down...ripped it out...all gone! Not to leave you with a sad ending, they did take some of that bougainvillea with them to their new house...still in Wisconsin...and it's now thriving there.
That is pretty crazy!!!! This actually really reminds me of the Bougainvillea we had in front of our house like I was trying to explain in the video. My parents planted a very very small bush right out front of our house, and it grew like crazyyyyyyy.... granted this was in FL so that's not super surprising, but it got really out of hand, to where it was taking over the whole side of the house. They also cut it up and ripped it out sadly. I'm glad the person who bought the house kept some of yours, I wish I did that with mine!!

Tampa Jay Well they Are so many different Types of plants I really appreciate and enjoy The plants that are Really huge with big Old leaves and look like They're from prehistoric Time's and I'm just waiting for a Dinosaurs to pop out From them and I think

Refreshing to see green plants 🪴. Looks like a nice peaceful place to walk and see nature. Still have a few months in Pennsylvania until greenery and flowers are in my gardens. I don’t do indoor plants. They never survive.

I appreciate your discussion of the plants, sharing your knowledge. In Michigan let’s say we do t have these plants. I am lucky that we do have an incredible garden, Dow Gardens where I live. I was just on vacation in Savannah and took in a park where there were over 50 species of trees, good stuff. Well done explaining and sharing your plant passion. Jay is more patient than my wife haha.
Jay is awesome, we spent a Saturday doing something that was more up my alley and I really appreciate him being so patient! Yeah Michigan wouldn't have most of these plants for sure haha! You are certainly in your element in this video! I'm always up for a good botanical garden, hopefully I can check out Sunken Gardens on my upcoming Florida road trip. If you haven't already read it, I highly recommend The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean (the book, not the movie). It's a deep dive into the history and culture of orchid-obsessed collectors.

Oh 100%! I have plans to go to Legoland specifically so I can revisit Cypress Gardens! I have a lot of memories there!
Try out the Ringling musum... they have some beautiful gardens or at least they did years ago.
