The difference with the old dramas and the modern ones is that they're now meant to be more realistic and if it's toxic it's for sure written the script, in short it was meant to be toxic unlike old dramas like Boys Over Flowers who was indirectly toxic just for it to fit the stereotypes of an 'ideal man' which is being arrogant, being a bad boy, and helping the poor bullied girl in the end.

seriously i love how the female characters are getting stronger as times pass by. but i just have a little problem with how the writers make the female characters seem like rather than being strong, it seems like they are trying to act cool and edgy. i just find it annoying because they're being rude with no absolute reasons. female characters that i want to see is brave but not rude, kind but not weak, bold but not bully, proud but not arrogant. to be honest the kdrama female character that likely is close with the criterias i mentioned was dalmi from start up. she was super cool. and i hope that the writers make more characters as inspiring as her too.

The one thing that hasn't change is the whole idea that first love always work out and the second lead, no matter how amazing he is will never get the girl. I mean from the first episode I already know who she's going to end up with. The guy that sees first. Its so predictable 😅

Crash landing on you had proper kisses imo and it's a lovely and clever story, I found the leads both very likeable and sweet. Seri was a tough business woman but she had a kind heart and was really sweet. If you someone hasn't watched this drama I RECOMMEND IT! I tried to watch. Still couldn't complete 2nd episode. Korean odessy was the 1st drama i tried to watch. I loved the series but till episode 8. After that i couldn't continue. I liked WWWSK , admired park min young a lot. Now she is the only k drama actress i like. I watched her city hunter and hunter, now i have nothing to watch. Her pvt life was boring. 😑

@@treesalouis from my hazy memories of older dramas, I can only recall like one kiss in most of those dramas, which was the shocked, first kiss 😅😂 I don’t even remember much kissing after that. Nowadays, there’s a lot more assertive and experienced female characters in kdramas, and the kissing scenes are more natural but still, those scenes aren’t really like western shows where they’re REALLY going at it. I’m honestly not mad at that. I prefer not to see all that, that’s why I liked Korean dramas more than western content

For example, Park Shin Hye does terrible kissing in both Heirs and Doctors. In those shows there are scenes where the kissing isn't first or surprised ones. But she just stands there for the actor to do everything. Unlike Seo Yea-ji, who does a wonderful job in Its Okay to not be Okay. Even that show doesn't have a lot of kissing scenes. Despite that, all their kisses feel warm 🥰. You can feel the love in both of them. It looks real.

Kdramas have improved to "some" extent. But still a lot of them are problematic. Toxic bfs are still going on, the girl choosing toxic ones and not the person who is actually their well wisher etc. The worst i guess is when they introduce the female mc as a "badass" but she actually contributes nothing to the story. Moreover, that's the only characteristic they have, i.e. being a "badass". Stereotypically, most of these badass women are also shown as egoistic, narcissistic and somehow their love to work is demonised. The male mc in such kdramas are usually introduced to "tame" these female mcs and carry the whole show. In any way, the female mc just remains as the love interest, for eg Hotel del luna. I love IU, and loved her in "my mister", but in hotel del luna, her character was just badly written. I hate how her character is used as "strong woman", when its absolutely not. Some of my best kdramas with ACTUAL good female leads have to be , Weightlifting fairy kim bok joo Search www (my favourite till now) K2 (the mother, not the daughter. I hate the daughter) Healer (even the story is interesting) Romance is a bonus book My mister I had a longer list but i forgot a lot of them as I haven't seen any kdrama for so long 😅
to be fair, the second lead, while usually a far better choice isnt shown as being attractive to the main character and are shown as being attractive to the audience lol. like the girl usually only thinks of them as a friend anyway so i dont expect them to get together simply because she doesn't actually want them
uh... Jang Man Wol was not an example of a "strong" woman and was never intended to be. She is a mentally and emotionally damaged woman who was a bandit leader even before we see her past life. Her work is not the problem. Running the hotel was a punishment and the show made that clear, which is one of the reasons she's such a bitch. Man Wol is tough, not "strong". Also, the male MC is MEANT to move the show forward. The entire premise is that until MAn Wol changes she cannot move on to the afterlife, but she refuses any and all opportunities to change. The MC is meant to be the catalyst for that. She is still Man Wol with centuries of damage and heartbreak behind her, so realistically, she doesn't change all that much.

I've noticed I have an easier time watching old (good) dramas to completion. Where as nowadays (good, at least initially) dramas get hard to keep watching after around episode 11 because the story is already done and they decided to bring in some random bs to make it 16 episodes.

I feel like by making the female leads eat a lot the script writers think they’re making the character relatable but like I absolutely adore food it is my haven but if I eat that much of a huge amount I’m 100% gonna feel sick n my stomach’s gonna hurt n I’ll regret eating that much just from all these after effects n I’ll feel tired from walking. Not like the robot female leads that the other shows have who stand there like a statue. Its cringy to watch. Nowadays, there’s a lot more assertive and experienced female characters in kdramas, and the kissing scenes are more natural but still, those scenes aren’t really like western shows where they’re REALLY going at it. I’m honestly not mad at that. I prefer not to see all that, that’s why I liked Korean dramas more than western content

For example, Park Shin Hye does terrible kissing in both Heirs and Doctors. In those shows there are scenes where the kissing isn't first or surprised ones. But she just stands there for the actor to do everything. Unlike Seo Yea-ji, who does a wonderful job in Its Okay to not be Okay. Even that show doesn't have a lot of kissing scenes. Despite that, all their kisses feel warm 🥰. You can feel the love in both of them. It looks real.

Kdramas have improved to "some" extent. But still a lot of them are problematic. Toxic bfs are still going on, the girl choosing toxic ones and not the person who is actually their well wisher etc. The worst i guess is when they introduce the female mc as a "badass" but she actually contributes nothing to the story. Moreover, that's the only characteristic they have, i.e. being a "badass". Stereotypically, most of these badass women are also shown as egoistic, narcissistic and somehow their love to work is demonised. The male mc in such kdramas are usually introduced to "tame" these female mcs and carry the whole show. In any way, the female mc just remains as the love interest, for eg Hotel del luna. I love IU, and loved her in "my mister", but in hotel del luna, her character was just badly written. I hate how her character is used as "strong woman", when its absolutely not.

uh... Jang Man Wol was not an example of a "strong" woman and was never intended to be. She is a mentally and emotionally damaged woman who was a bandit leader even before we see her past life. Her work is not the problem. Running the hotel was a punishment and the show made that clear, which is one of the reasons she's such a bitch. Man Wol is tough, not "strong".
Also, the male MC is MEANT to move the show forward. The entire premise is that until MAn Wol changes she cannot move on to the afterlife, but she refuses any and all opportunities to change. The MC is meant to be the catalyst for that. She is still Man Wol with centuries of damage and heartbreak behind her, so realistically, she doesn't change all that much.

I've noticed I have an easier time watching old (good) dramas to completion. Where as nowadays (good, at least initially) dramas get hard to keep watching after around episode 11 because the story is already done and they decided to bring in some random bs to make it 16 episodes.
