Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. Come hang out, it's a good time.

I was thinking the same thing through that story. Whether the person really met with the real celebrities or not, his phrasing of the story made me feel uncomfortable, like he's the type of fan to pester a celebrity rather than respect their boundaries. Getting rejected for pics or autographs sucks, but we're not entitled to anyone's time or attention that isn't an agreed-upon meeting.

I have ADHD and used to have social anxiety. That combination is straight from hell. Because i say blunt and impulsive things sometimes or word things differently than most people and accidentally offend people i wanted to be friends with. That’s actually the reason i developed social anxiety, I lost all of my friends over the years and i thought i was a horrible person. Going to therapy and accepting on who i am has helped a lot. I now have a lot of friends with ADHD and not having to worry about what i say because they UNDERSTAND me is amazing, i can’t believe other people had this all their life

Lisa Kudrow went to school at Vassar College and did an internship at the not-for-profit I worked for. She and would work most of the day alone in the small office that was mine. In the afternoon, many staff and volunteers would come through the office. She was painfully shy and would turn to her typewriter and not make eye contact with anyone. The young guys were always around trying to meet the pretty girl and she would turn bright red if they spoke to her. I was so surprised when she became an actress. Not surprised that she has issues with fans remembering her shyness.

here's my take: don't disturb celebrities on their personal time. Just don't. You think it's no big deal, but likely since they got out of the house and until they reached the cafe you work at, they were stopped like 10 more times. I disagree that as fans, we are entitled to pictures, hugs, autographs etc. Not when you meet them in the wild. Smile if you want to show them you recognize and appreciate them, but leave them alone. Now, if you meet them at an event, that's a completely different situation.

When I was in college, I went grocery shopping and got into line behind a minor celebrity. He paid and left, when it was my turn, the cashier asked if I knew who he was, he looked familiar. I said yes, gave his name, and she proceeded to get ballistic on me for not calling him out so others could go up and meet him. I said, he was just grocery shopping, he should be allowed to have time to himself. The cashier continued to berate me and even told me off to other cashiers, saying things like, "Can you believe this guy?" So, the actor wasn't the problem, it was the people around me who were.

in terms of social anxiety, i've been told multiple times that i've come across as rude or cold because my anxiety makes me distant and i actively try to get away from the situation that's causing me to panic. because of my anxiety, i suck at holding conversations and meeting new people, so since i'm not really engaging in conversation, people think i'm rude or stuck-up.

Yeah, I have social anxiety too and I think being "rude" or appearing rude at least depends a lot on how much you're able to read the room and how much you're panicking and how you're reacting to panic. Most of the time I will be the nicest person, like annoyingly nice. But if it's really to much and I have a panic attack I'll be the rudest I guess, like literally running out, no eye contact and not a word, also in that situation, I tend to forget I have shoulders and bump into everything and everyone.

I met Goldie Hawn in a budget guesthouse in Varanasi India in the early 2000s. She was traveling with her son Oliver and some friends. My buddy and I went up onto the roof to watch the sunset and there sat Goldie and a few friends. I thought I was having a stroke. The guesthouse wasn’t a dump by any means. But it was definitely a backpacker hotel, no bathrooms in the rooms, that sort of place, clean but zero luxuries.
Once I realized I wasn’t having my first psychotic episode and Goldie was actually sitting on the roof of my hotel, I waved and said hello. The legendary Miss Goldie Hawn asked us our names, about our travels, our schooling. She suggested some places to visit, shared some funny stories. She was fully engaged with us for 10-15 minutes and so kind. After that time she casually and gradually started shifting her attention back toward her companions. It was the most polite signal ever. We thanked her for the chat, wished each other safe travels and went on our way
To this day, that brief encounter on an Indian rooftop, sun setting behind the great Ganges River, chatting away with Goldie Hawn, is one of my favorite memories. There is a 0.0001% chance she even remembers it happened. But her willingness to be kind and her generosity of spirit gave me a memory to cherish for a lifetime. Thanks Goldie! 💙
P.S. The next day I accidentally ingested heroin and very nearly died. That was also memorable but much less pleasant. Be careful in Varanasi folks!

I was in Santa Monica visiting relatives, and I ran into Kurt and Goldie at a Home Depot of all places. My little kid brain didn't process that Kurt wasn't actually the Commander in real life, and that Goldie wasn't Jetstream (not even the right actress), but they were super sweet and both went into character during the entire interaction. They also helped me find my family because I wandered off to go say hi to them, and STILL STAYED IN CHARACTER during that interaction too. It's one of my most cherished early childhood memories. Also, Goldie gives some of the best hugs, and Kurt has a super contagious smile. Love those two.

I realized for me that I thought people would know that I had anxiety but they obviously don't cause they don't know us. Social anxiety is different for people and it's very badly combined with short tempers which I have myself soooo it really does make me come off as rude and not interested. ☹️

We just randomly ran into him, and while his handlers were trying to keep him on schedule, Mr. Rogers was exactly what you'd think Mr. Rogers would be when faced with a couple of eager kids who wanted to meet him. Said actress's agent was at a party where Warren Beatty was present, and he came up to start hitting on female agent. She said, "No thanks." Warren: "But ... but ... I'm WARREN BEATTY!" Agent: "I don't care who you are!" and walked past him. So it sounds like he was turned down more than once. He really was handsome, and a very good actor, but always had a reputation for being a Lothario. Probably why he was snubbed so many times by the Academy, and never won best actor even though he was nominated, a lot!
If you want to see him in his prime (a year before his 1st movie role), there was a show in 1959-early 1960s called "One Step Beyond" that was kind of like "Twilight Zone" except the stories were supposed to be "true". The episodes are on RUclips for free.
I was blown away by an episode called "The Visitor" because of the quality of the actors. Only two actors, and they were a young Warren Beatty and the legendary Joan Fontaine!

I have mental illnesses that cross over with social anxiety and I've had people tell me that until they actually got to know me they thought I was rude and stuck up. They all changed their minds after sitting down and talking to me.
People with real mental illnesses (like diagnosed social anxiety) cannot handle social situations the same way other people do. It's never okay to be rude, but sometimes you have to consider that there is a reason behind that behavior that you can't see or understand.

I am autistic. Up until a year ago, I thought it was social anxiety.
It is SO uncomfortable making eye contact and talking to strangers. I'm talking full body stress pain. I would push through it and behave in a way everyone expected a "normal" person to behave subconsciously.
I was masking. Masking is often misinterpreted as a person being fake, rude, weird, etc. This masking is exhausting, I thought it was what everyone did, and thats what people meant when they'd say, "Life's hard."
I've officially burt out from masking and can no longer do it. It feels like it could kill me dead in my tracks when I try. So now I am fully me. And everyone hates me. My erratic behavior (excited to act like me), intense interests, truth telling (I'll tell a stranger they have a bugger), along with my fear of being judged for it all and staring at the wall during a conversation, apparently rub people the wrong way. But at this point, I must be truly me (I really am very kind, loyal, and all around awesome) or die, those are currently my only options.
So please, everyone, be much slower to judge someone on the way they behave. A person not saying the "right" thing, making good eye contact, or speaking much at all may not be rude.
This is an ablism most of us on the spectrum experience on a daily basis. Please try to look deeper than what is "normal."
Much 💜 to all of you beautiful humans!

No one would ever guess that 10 minutes prior he was bent over in his chair, shaking like a leaf, and doing breathing exercises because he has severe social anxiety (often so severe he throws up before an event). Arnold Schwarzenegger has to have a handler to keep him moving through the crowd and Johnny Depp has been snagged by his security bodily on a number of occasions. Some are cold. To a certain extent, fan service is a job requirement, as you point out, and those are also cases where it is a planned meet and greet. I used to live in NOLA, have visited Martha’s Vineyard (friend had a run in with Billy Joel) and lived in NYC. I have concluded that famous people like these areas for day to day because it is understood that you appreciate them from afar and otherwise let them live their lives. From my personal experience, social anxiety definitely makes me retreat from interactions. I remember having a panic attack in a supermarket a while ago as it was super busy and overwhelming. Tons of people, annoying ads over the radio, a crying child behind me in line. I could not cope and just tried to get away from it all and definitely just ignored the cashier and everyone around me in that moment (usually I'm really nice). So I think it can show up differently for different people and I can totally see why celebs don't always feel like interacting with fans. Just let them be.

Same! I had won a small kindle tablet (only for reading ebooks) from a silent auction with the help of my grandmother and she kind of used an underhanded tactic to make sure "I" won. So it came time to announce the winner and it was MY name, and this middle aged woman came over to me, furious. She started yelling that we cheated while I was shocked and not even sure what was going on while my grandma tried to defend me. I just stiffly said I don't want it anymore and had to go sit in the corner to sob by myself for an HOUR.
I was so anxious and put in that spot without even really knowing what was happening and I judt froze up, unable to do anything but walk away quickly.

My best friend was late for work at Disney World and was basically sprinting backstage to not get points docked. She ended up accidentally bumping into someone backstage, apologized and continued to the clock. About an hour later she was pulled into the office and manager said they needed to discuss the incident earlier. She had no idea what they meant, and the manager said, "we got a complaint from the VIP tourguide that you were harassing John Travolta and even knocked him over." Her brain pretty much exploded and she almost got a write up for it until they realized she literally had no idea who she had run into.

As someone with lifelong social anxiety, it can go either way. Either I’m people pleasing and overly nice or I’m in panic mode - shut down, can’t make eye contact and rude. The latter tends to happen with pushy sales people or when I think someone wants something from me. So yeah, I can see it being an issue with a celeb that has social anxiety. When you’re in that panic mode, you don’t see or reason logically - it’s pretty miserable, especially when you typically try to be kind to others but in that moment you lash out in order to escape and then feel horrible guilt about it later. It all comes down to how you handle the stress or threat - fight, flight, freeze or fawn. As a socially anxious person, I can’t think many careers worse than being a celebrity of some sort. Shudder

*John Leguizamo Story OP:* Ok look, I get it he has a big influence on Latino culture and you’re a big fan; there was no need to follow the man out to the parking lot for a picture. If he says “No” to a picture that means no. You aren’t entitled to a person’s time if they do not want to give it to you. Celebrities are humans too and they deserve as much privacy as you.
*EDIT:* While I get it was a joke, the above applies. 😅

    • @LazyIRanch

I like John, funny guy and he has a "take no shit" attitude. I would expect and agree with him not tolerating being followed out to the parking lot. So many crazy violent people, especially when they get around celebs.
This was obviously a bit, and I think the guy making a video was really making fun of obsessive fans who demand time from celebs who owe them nothing.
I live like a hermit and go weeks at a time without speaking to anyone other than my son, so I can't imagine bothering a celeb, because I hate being approached by strangers and I'm NOBODY!
I accidentally scared the crap out of someone last week and it made me laugh once I realized it.
I live off-grid on a mountain, 3 miles down a rough dirt switchback road into a canyon where I'm literally the last house off that dirt road. However, there are a few others who have RVs or shacks who only come here Spring-Summer to tend their cannabis grows. Each property is 20 acres or more, so we are spread out and I mind my own business.
On my way back from getting supplies in town (only leave the house about 3 times a month), I happened to be behind an SUV for the whole 10 miles up the "hill". Then I was still behind him when he turned off the main road onto a narrow paved road, then I also was behind him when he turned onto the dirt road. He looked visibly scared, and he pulled over so I could pass him, which I did.
He kept his distance, but he must have really freaked when he saw me turn on my road, where I have the only house! Later we saw him pass by on our road on his way to the grow that is at the end of our dead-end road, well hidden (he thinks). We've known about it for years, since long before the previous owner was arrested and "went away" for 2 years. I guess this is the new property squatter, I mean, "owner".
Seems weird that he'd be afraid of me, as I've always been more afraid of people, especially those who have illegal grows. I don't go for hikes anymore because I'm afraid of accidentally finding one and getting murdered!

The one about Julian Casablancas is 1000% true. I've met Julian a couple times and he's been nice each time. The first time I met him was after the Voidz concert at the Roxy. There was a crowd of us waiting to see if we could meet the band after the show. His manager came out to say Julian was gonna come out to meet and greet if we formed an orderly line. I was very near the front of the line when he announced that but with a mob of people excited to meet Julian, I got pushed back a little. I recognized this girl from before the show who cut in line in front of me because she had like a group of 10 people. I was frustrated about that but I let it go. Then surprise surprise, the same girl tried cutting in front of me when I was next in line to meet Julian. I was gonna let it go again because I'd been patient and didn't want to make a scene, but Julian noticed. The girl was like "can I get a hug" but like already had her arms spread towards him and Julian pointed his finger at me and said "uh who's next?" And I was so happy he noticed and acknowledged me first the way that he did. I felt justice was served 🤣. I was so excited and shaky and he was so patient with my awkwardness and told me not to apologize when I semi panicked when I didn't have someone to take a photo of us. We just asked Julian's manager and they were super sweet during the entire interaction. Anyway short story long, Julian stayed and met the ENTIRE mob of fans. I've seen fan videos of him engaging with fans like he did with us that night 🥹
I actually have met the OP at a Strokes concert and she's really nice too. The timing of the video is cool bc the Strokes actually have a song called 12:51 and that's when she talks about Julian 😁
I have met Alex Turner a couple times and had a different experience with him. He was really patient with me being starstruck and fumbling my words. There was one time I was waiting to meet the bassist and drummer and Alex ran past us saying "I'm sorry" that he didn't stop but we weren't upset about it bc we had just met him a couple days before and were really trying to meet the rest of the band, which we were able to do ☺️
I also wanted to add about social anxiety... I feel I can get very self conscious and not think clearly. At times, I feel I overshare and then in retrospect regret opening my mouth. But I don't think it makes me be rude to others like some celebs seem to be when they claim to be socially anxious.

In truth, I felt like I was absolute garbage and being stuck up was the absolute opposite of what I was feeling. When I would get to know somebody a little one on one, they would say something like, “I can’t believe you’re so nice I thought you were so stuck up! “ and as for these celebrities… If they are looking up and down and rolling their eyes, they are not being socially awkward. If you act super nice, Charlotte, always imagine someone acting the exact opposite of you when they’re scared. What I’ve learned about fear (especially in group therapy where you meet all kinds) is that someone else will always act the complete opposite as well. That’s how people end up where we can’t understand.
Fear makes you do the crazy.

My friends and I met super sweet Tom Selleck while he was shopping on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. We used to skip school and head there for lunch 😂. He wrote my name and Aloha then his name. Another time we were in Hollywood partying. Andrew Dice Clay stopped in a limo and invited us to a party. We didn’t go, but got his autograph- he just wrote his name, but was super cool.

I have social anxiety and yes anxiety can absolutely make people perceive you as rude. Mostly due to speaking fast, not controlling tone of voice and being short with words. Especially during a full blown attack

I feel like Charlotte is right. I have autism with a side dish of social phobia and I tend to be super nice with strangers just to be safe. I have never used it as an excuse for being rude and I believe neither should other people, regardless of their fame or status. The only difference is that they are watched/recorded while being nice or rude and they have to come up with excuses for it later. There are lots of entitled people, yes, but being rude to everyone doesn't solve that problem.

I know right! I myself always do this nervous laugh whenever I think out there, a stranger or someone famous or someone I don’t really know. So what I do by default is be super nice as always smile make sure that I am always very agreeable and then when I come back home later that day, I’ll than just regret a lot of things like how I should’ve done this lol

I have a very strong anxiety disorder, where most of the time I can’t even pump myself up to leave the house. And I agree to a point. I try to be super nice when someone walks up to me, but until that point I try to be invisible, and not look anyone in the eyes. And on a bad day, I have headphones in (no music) so I can pretend not to hear to a point… sooo 50 50?

i try to pick a corner as far away as possible if i can. for things i am required to be around/socialize with others such as work i shutdown verbally and if someone starts a conversation with me i can end up talking incessantly about random things because, of my anxiety.( i think this might also be because, of my desire for approval from others but, it's so awkward i end up getting embarrassed and stabbing myself in the foot.) as soon as i feel drained i try to find any excuse to leave while apologizing but, it's extremely obvious i'm trying to run away because of my very obvious body movements.
when i have nothing going on all i do is isolate.

I have social anxiety and might be autistic too (in the process of finding a place to do the testing) I don't talk to nobody and I mean nobody because of an incident that happened in November (which is how I found out I might be autistic) I also don't use my conditions card I just say I don't like talking to people I don't know and if they touch me (I don't like strangers touching me) I say I'd appreciate if you don't touch me. If they do my anxiety becomes extremely dangerous to the point that I can unintentionally hurt the person that is trying to hurt me or touched me.

idk. I think saying a mental illness looks the same in all people is silly and a little bit dangerous. My anxiety can make me super irritable and I know the level of social interaction a celebrity engages in is really high. I think there is a balance between calling someone out on dickish behavior and being compassionate about MH.

I have social anxiety and i totally agree. It makes me so aware of how I'm acting to others and even when a discrepancy happens i just say thank you and move on bc the thought of telling someone there are pickles on my burger when i asked for there not to be makes me so uncomfortable and even tho my burger will taste like pickles is just easier to take them off myself and not bother anyone

Hi Charlotte, watching your video today made my day a lot better. I also have social anxiety (diagnosed by doctor). As a teen I would lie to skip social gatherings because the sole idea of having to go made me extremely anxious and uncomfortable. Just this morning (because of something that happened to me earlier) I realised that I always go above and beyond for my friends and that I do my best to pleased them and bend to their needs whilst although they also help when needed, they do it as long as it doesn’t affect them greatly or mess with their lives greatly. Listening to you talk about social anxiety and being able to relate just made my day a lot better. Thank you for being so awesome and making the best videos - they always make me laugh and bright up my day.

I think Charlotte's completely correct. In my experience, as someone who also has social anxiety, you treat the people taking your order politely because you want the social encounter to not be awkward or more troublesome than it already is. Especially if you're having a bad day and you just don't have the energy to deal with people. If you're polite, the interaction generally ends faster.

I have been around quite a few celebrities in my life. I will say one of the nicest people I ever met was Robin Williams- my uncle worked as a sound engineer for Disney and then later Pixar. He not only was friendly with Robin through working with him on countless movies but also had been friends with him and Jay Leno while they frequented the comedy clubs in CA (he and Jay had gone to college together). My family and I were visiting my uncle while they were filming with him…. We were brought into the lots while my uncle gave us a bit of a tour (which was so amazing… we even were walked down to see some of the vaults!). We went to the commissary to grab lunch before my uncle had to back to work. While I was walking to the table a man comes up behind me and starts making comments about my food as if he were the chef in a super silly voice… I was about 7 at the time and shy…it was Robin. He chatted with me in this “character” for a min while myself and my little brother who was 3 at the time giggled and laughed. He said he needed to “make sure my food was okay” and took a piece of my food and pretended to choke. My brother freaked out being only 3 hahaha- he quickly dropped the act and consoled him while my family laughed hysterically. He sat with us and ate his own lunch before leaving. He even did the Genie voice for my little brother to make him smile…This was Robin. This is who he was. He gave us a core memory I can never express how grateful I am for.

Also- Jim Carey is hilarious and kind. He is a fan of a death metal band I worked with. One of the best things I have ever seen in my life was him head banging side stage gutturally “singing” along to Cannibal Corpse. Every word. Each. And. Every. Word.
He took time to meet fans and take photos with them post show. I cannot say the same for his gf at the time Jenny McCarthy (there is a reason they most certainly did not end up together) who pouted and looked like she was taking the most painful poop of her life while waiting for him 😂

Jewel needs to be on this list. I worked at a nightclub. One night we were dead cuz there was a Jewel concert nearby. Suddenly, everyone flooded in and we were slammed. Turns out a MASS of people walked out on her concert because of what a witch she was.
She would not let people drink, smoke, or talk while she was performing (in a venue that had "full bar with ID" on the tickets, so technically she was causing false advertising by refusing to let people drink). An intoxicated woman called for a cab, doing the responsible thing- Jewel literally STOPPED SINGING to yell at the woman and scream for security to remove her. The woman wasn't even near the stage, she was in the front of the venue near the entrance doors. Jewel's the ultimate Karen diva.

I’ve met several celebrities at conventions. Nick Carter is my #1. I met him at a vip set at one of his concerts and again at the convention. At the convention, his booth was cash only and all the atms were empty, but my son wanted to meet him. We got in line, explained to his PR people that we weren’t buying a service but just wanted to meet him. He hugged my son and talked to him, hugged me and talked to me, and my son even snuck in a second hug. He was super cool about us taking up his time. He’s still my #1 celebrity crush.

I lived in a remote town in Indonesia for one year. I studied there and also taught English at local language school. This town is not famous for tourism so people are not used to see different faces, cultures or races. Every time I left my place to go grocery shopping or doing anything honestly, people were yelling at me on the street to make a conversation with me, wanting to take pictures with me at least 10 times a day and I couldn't sit at a restaurant and have a meal without being interrupted multiple times. It was really bizarre to me because I am literally nobody, just very ordinary person. And that's when I had a taste of how celebrities feel like every day of their life. And I have to tell you, I was always nice and polite but sometimes it was really hard to keep my composure when people started to be pushy!
And that's why I feel for celebrities, end of story lol
I kept saying I feel like Justin Bieber at teenage girls concert 😂

We let people , even if we recognize them, to just BE. They were on vacation. With their kids! They didn’t even have handlers! I miss you Don and Melanie!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I met Pete Carroll (Coach of Seattle Seahawks). He came into my work to order food. Me, not being a big football fan, had no idea who he was. So, me being his waitress I treated him like a regular customer. He was super nice! Then once everyone around him realized who he was they started flipping out. At this point I had to start telling my co-workers and the other customers to calm down and let him finish his meal before going up to him. My mom is a HUGE Seahawks fan but she was proud of me for making people chill. He should be allowed to eat his meal in peace with his woman damn it! Lol (oh, and, he eats Hawaiian style pizza. Canadian bacon and Pineapple)

I'm the same with my anxiety, I will apologise to others for no real reason (just being overly nice as I'm not a fan of confrontations) to then be told that "people who apologise for no reason were abused as children". Now I have a mini guilt complex as I know my children take after me with being overly polite... and now I know what's is going round some peoples minds. I'm going back under my rock till winter.
