Yea I agree. They did do 7-9 legendary tho, that’s kinda wild. The 8 ball is so dumb, just play the song. It’d be more shocking to say nothing and just play something rare.
This comment won’t really matter to anyone but I remember this some from my freshman year of college. Limewire was still a thing (yes i’m getting old haha) but at the beginning of the year some people didn’t have their libraries on private and you could listen to other dorm mates playlists . Anyway I remember waking up from a nap hearing this song (especially the Pete screaming part) and falling back asleep. It wasn’t on my playlist so I never really knew what the name of this song was. Here 15 years later I finally googled “so which is it” and that’s why I’m here riding the nostalgia train and wishing for a simpler time. Hope you all stay well.
So, a friend of mine in school got this song from Limwire and he kept calling it Joe the Janitor. I think I finally solved the nostalgic puzzle. I'm right here with you!
I have been looking for this song for nearly a decade and I finally found it! Back in the limewire days, this song was listed as "7 Minutes In Heaven" and that lead me on a wild goose chase bc I couldnt remember much of the lyrics years later lol. I truly thought I was living my own personal Mandela Effect for a while
Omg same, I wondered for like 15 years why the actual "7 years in heaven" doesn't sound like I remember it AT ALL until I somehow stumbled upon this just now
When me and my best friend were in high school we worked at the concession stand during Friday night football games and when we would make nachos for people we would always yell “SO WE CHEESE IT WE CHEESE IT” while pumping the cheese on the chips, good times lol. To this day still one of my fav songs from my all time favorite band
i’ve been into fall out boy for twenty years but been really into this specific song for a couple months now…. i don’t think of this song without thinking of this comment. this comment and this song are basically synonymous for me now. thank you for sharing, i love this memory so much :)
totororo they talk about the process in a bunch of videos titled "FOB [tttyg song name] explained" where they say Pete would give Patrick a bunch of words and tell him to put those words together somehow, it was more split
"I'm sick of writing songs for you to slit your wrists to" Interpretation here: FOB always rejected the emo label they had. Maybe here they're saying, "this is the music we wanna write, but we're not catering to wannabe emo followers". Maybe? Overall the song feels like it's about the busy famous life of a band, which is great but can be really straining. The media's all over you now, you have to cater to an audience to make money, drama is everywhere, band members get inequal limelight, etc. Either way, awesome hidden gem.
I read into it like that or that they don’t like that their lyrics that have deep meaning to them are blow off as emo so people don’t appreciate their real value
"Band members get inequal limelight" I was just talking to some friends about this, the question of 'why was Pete always so much more popular than Patrick, Joe, or Andy', always seeing it as unfair towards those 3. But after reading some old interviews, I realized it was probably more like a sacrifice Pete was willing to make. Patrick (and Andy) were apparently PAINFULLY shy, so Pete made sure to take the brunt of the crazy fame that usually the lead singer of a band has to take. Not to mention he was the oldest (during Dance Dance era Pete was 25, Andy 23/4, and Pat/Joe were 21) so he also probably felt protective of them in a way. I think we all wish Andy had gotten more attention for his INSANE drumming skills, Joe would've gotten more love for his INCREDIBLE guitar & fun personality, and that Patrick had gotten more praise for his multitalented genius EVERYTHING. But thats likely not what _they_ wanted at all. And thanks to Pete, none of them had to experience that level of nonstop attention at all. So shoutout to Pete, thank you & sorry you had to take it all for the team 🖤🍻
idk, i think it might also about pete went's girlfriend he was in a toxic relationship with, she used to cut herself to get his atention, idk but its def worth looking into.
Why do I feel such a vibe that I got when I discovered The Carpal Tunnel of Love 5 years ago? Like I already know almost every single Fall Out Boy song, feature, and cover but listening to this makes me feel like I JUST discovered Fall Out Boy...what a hidden gem.
I think Patrick actually wrote this bc of the lyrics "hand over my heart, gun to my head. I swear to god I'm through with this. I'm the worst liar I know. It's not gossip if it's the truth." I know that Pete wasn't suicidal during this time period, and that Patrick was the one who was depressed. I remember reading something he posted to his official tumblr talking about how he had planned to end it all before he was 18.
Super old post, I know, but I actually don't think this is true. This was a track that was cut from FUTCT, somewhere in the latter half of 2004. FUTCT is when they switched to the writing process where Pete did lyrics and Patrick did musical composition. This was also the time period leading up to Pete's suicide attempt, so the lyrics would make sense as his, and besides, Patrick was twenty at this point, not eighteen.
every year near the end of summer i come back to this song. it’s kinda like a reminder of how things feel until i get a break from everything in life. the cycle continues but somehow i’m alright with it.
I think the chorus "so which is it, the boy who writes the songs or the boy who's in them" is interesting. Both of those lyrics could apply to either one of them. You'd initially think "the boy who's in them" refers to Pete, but later on in the song the line is "I'm sick of writing songs..." Assuming Pete wrote that line, the boy in the songs actually doesn't refer to Pete and one could assume it refers to Patrick. This could go both ways or just be a general statement, though.
Patrick did write for Girlfriend and TTTYG though, so maybe if it's older it was one of Patrick's writings. One viewpoint I find interesting is that "the boy who writes the songs" is pete, the depressed genius writer and "the boy who's in the songs" is the pete that could get any girl he wants, the pete we see in the songs.
someone uploaded this track on spotify as a podcast, THANKKKK you (:! ii loooove this song so much im really the writer or im someone else's fiction !? so fascinating ! (:
I was wondering why I could not find this one on Spotify. I always thought it was an official release. I've had this downloaded since ~2008 and the ending is slightly different. Interesting
In this world, is the destiny of mankind controlled by some trancidental entity or law? Is it like the hand of God, hovering above us. At least it is true, that man has no control, even over his own will...
@@danielmatthews7756 There was a longer ambience and a little guitar twang in the background. A while back there was a recording that included it, but it got taken down. The fact I can't find a similar recording makes me a bit upset hearing this one without the full ending.
8 ball this, 8 ball that... if fall out boy REALLY wants to shock us, really get the crowd riled up... they'd whip out this one. (I would explode)
Fuckin real 🤘
still listening in 2024 !!

Patrick probably forgot about it HFHFHFHFHHF

2:11 HOLY FUCK PATRICK
Holy crap I need that on repeat until I drop dead

the lyrics in tttyg were so angry and filled with hate, I'm so happy Pete's better now.
Actually, Patrick wrote the lyrics for tttyg. He used to be really depressed as a teenager.

Jaimie Y. Yeah. The "emo" label has been looked down upon by both Brendon Urie and the members of Fall Out Boy
I read into it like that or that they don’t like that their lyrics that have deep meaning to them are blow off as emo so people don’t appreciate their real value
