Sounds like a cracking hop. That clarity, that colour and the ice cream head yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!Loved the hop addition perspective bolted onto the end works well brilliant 👍🍻
This is one of the best places to ID a taste of a hop as none of you guys know what you are trying, so the honesty is unaffected by what you have heard about the hop flavour. We had red berry, liquorice and pina colada from just two people.
thanks yes it makes a big difference going in blind, I know I am led to an extent by the descriptors as I cant really avoid seeing the variety and description when I am brewing it
I know this is an old video but I wanted to say it’s such a great format. Testing hops with a restrained pale ale instead of a massive NEIPA, taking it to the boys for a group discussion - wish I could consult a video like this for every hop out there! Love gleaming bits of information from the group discussion. I recently did a 6.4% IPA with Motueka, Nectaron, and Riwaka, and it was a great and very aggressively NZ beer. Wonderful tropical flavors but that limey/herbal finish was a bit strong. Looking forward to blending these hops more in the future.
Thanks for the great video. I've just brewed it today, so looking forward to the results! Just one question... the dry hop addition, is that after 2 days fermenting or for the last 2 days of fermentation? Cheers mate, loving the content!
Robobrew? I've not got one of those lol, agree the fermzillas are excellent tho wouldn't recommend anything else for value and functionality at the moment
As an NZ homebrewer who's used this hop quite a few times (was available as HORT4337 for years here) it's a great hop for tropical pale ales. It's most often paired with Galaxy and Mosaic. Locally it's the "NZ Mosaic" really. It pairs well with any tropical/citrus hops and just lifts all the flavours. Not a hop I'd single-hop with usually. Pairs wonderfully with Waimea for a great limey taste. On a selfish level, I'm incredibly sad it's been made commercial as the local market supplies have immediately been reduced massively. Used to be easy to get at any lhbs, but now NZ Hops doesn't even sell it to homebrew shops in bulk anymore... NZ produces a tiny amount of hops (at the global scale), and of that Nelson Sav is the vast majority being grown (mostly for export). The rights NZHops (which is a hopgrower cooperative) holds to Nelson Sav is expiring soon, after which any grower can propagate that variety. This means there was pressure to come up with the new "cash cow" hop, and Nectoron is what they've decided to put forward as that hop.
@@timverplanke7755 The independent farms can't supply Nectaron, as the variety is owned by NZ Hops. In any case, that's not really a viable way for homebrewers to get hops :P
Looks like I need more security on my nectaron stash in the freezer. As other poster mentions impossible to get even down here in NZ. Commercials I think have snapped it all up.
I use perforated foil when i batch sparge to help with the vorlauf but i dont put it in during the mash itself, the tun is very well insulated so doesn’t make much difference
Another excellent video Richard, well thought out experiment and by the consensus of The Hop Addition, a lovely beer, bravo Sir...

Sounded like a proper interesting hop and was interesting to hear the other guys opinion and those pear notes sounded good too.
Cheers mate 🍺 🍻

Some great info there thanks, sorry to hear its a struggle to get hold of it there I’d assumed it would still be pretty easy to pick up in NZ

@@DenkerNZ this is an old comment now, but Brewshop have Nectaron on sale at the moment.
@@DeneMcDonald haha, even on sale it's the same price as the American hops. Brewshop tends to be more expensive than most at any rate.

Nice and interesting, Nectaron is new to me... by the name I would have guessed something from the Transformers
