    Best review of the new Shimano motors ive seen. I just got a new bike w ep8 1 and I noticed how improved everything was compared to the 2018 model year. Less noise, more power, better ride characteristics.

    Does the EP801 have a built in power meter for your own input power like on the Bosch CX?
    In boost mode, how long is the overrun? The Bosch CX states 1m extended boost, so is the EP801 around the same?

    Thanks for your videos on the EP8. I’m weighing up on getting a new bike with an EP800 and every day i change my mind on it. I am worried its not powerful enough on speeds over 17kmh and also worried about the lack of repairability. I currently ride a Bafang M600. Very easy to repair and cheaper and easier to replace down the track. What is the expected longevity of the EP8, do people have these things running reliability for 4 years?

    • @EMTBVideos

      IN my interview with Shimano, they said something along the lines of "the motor was designed to last the life time of the bike, or at least the lifetime of other major components, such as suspension". I guess things might change. Upcoming motors will likely be designed with the EU "right to repair" in mind.

    Great video, I guess the reason why the EP6 behaves like the old EP800 is because they both "only" have 500w peak power, while the new EP801 have 600w.

    So does the EP801 make a ton of noise like the old one or not?

    • @EMTBVideos
      @EMTBVideos  Год назад +3

      While pedaling uphill, neither of them are too bad I think. There are other full fat motors that are noisier. Descending or coasting, the EP801 has been much more quiet than the 2020-2022 EP800. That could change as the motor wears, but it seems they have improved the motor rattle significantly.

    • @ashkoninsd
      @ashkoninsd Год назад

      @@EMTBVideos thank you. That’s good to hear. I didn’t buy the Santa Cruz Bullit because of the rattle. I had an intense Tazer and that sounded like a shopping cart going down the mountain so I was apprehensive about the Santa Cruz also using the EP800. The Specialized Brosd motors are completely silent on the descend. I hope the EP801 will be the same.

    CAN CONSUMERS BUY THE NEW EP801 SYSTEMS TO UPGRADE EVENTUALLY?

    • @EMTBVideos
      @EMTBVideos  Год назад

      I guess you can buy the components if you really want to. But I don't think it's worth it. You'll need to swap all the expensive parts to make it work. The EP801 and EP6 needs the new gen2 BMS which means you need a new battery, and you need a new power button. Probably better off selling the bike and buying a new one.
