I really wish this clip began just a little bit sooner, with Ray saying "I just can't believe that things have gotten so bad that there's no way back." That's a message all people of this world desperately need right now. Ray is my hero, because like him I have had a sincere fascination with the supernatural since a very young age, and I really do feel like his childlike enthusiasm and wonder at everything scary crazy thing that happens really showed me that I don't have to be afraid of monsters. In fact, I can use science to fight them! This little speech at the beginning of this clip is some of his best characterization in either of the films.
I always loved that Ray took responsibility for destroying the cop car, just like he did in the first film with the chandelier: "I did that! I did that, that's my fault!" Lol.
I thought, that Egon was steering Libby, but it was actually Ray, it's shown earlier (in this clip), that he has the controller, so assuming he has it the whole time and not passing it to the others, he is the one to blame for that smashed police car. And therefore he is the one to apologise.
@@MetalJuggalo You can't count Egon out as well. When they realize they're still running low on time and can't move the statue faster without shaking her to pieces. Ray: Maybe we should've padded her feet. Egon: I don't think they make Nikes in her size, Ray.
I think my favourite detail was always the torch of liberty erupting into a torrent of fire, and the Ghostbusters reaction. The Lady's got their back, and the smackdown she's bringing is as real as those flames.
“Pilot controls are ready...” it’s a Nintendo controller. 🤣 this film is gold. Not as gold as GB1 but for a sequel, it’s one of the few that buck the “bad sequel trend” in spectacular fashion.
So happy after 32 years we FINALLY get a release of Randy Edelman's score. Sure the songs are not in film order, but as Cheech says, "Better late than never."
The original movie is such a masterpiece that even a great sequel, such as GB2, pales in comparison. Nonetheless, I love this movie. It's a beautiful moment! Blessed to have had the opportunity to cheer them on! We need this exhibition of positivity and togetherness in today's world. ❤️
I don’t care how absurd this concept is, this was an inspirational and epic scene that brought me a lot of joy. Ghostbusters 2 is my favorite in the franchise.
Dude I'm 36, my mom said I new all the lines of the first Ghostbusters movie by the time I was 4. I'm watching this scene right now, and it still gives me goosebumps. It's genetic, all 3 of my sons love Ghostbusters. My 2 year old always asks to watch the movie, cartoons or see me or his brothers play the video game.
Love it when the torch explodes, starts flaming for real. Also, I've always wondered; what happened to the Statue of Liberty, after the movie ended, since if I remember correctly it ends up on it's side outside of wherever Vigo and Danna are.
I guess they're able to get it back onto its pedestal. You see a celebration for the Ghostbusters on Liberty Island during the credits, and the statue is back in its original place. Perhaps they used the positive-charged slime to take control again and walk it back?
I loved it when they start playing that song with the bass and all that electrical charging through the pink slime before the torch explode. Got the same bass sound when you enter a clothing store in Saints Row 3 and 4 which reminds me of Paul the purple drink (Pierce Washington's ad mascot drink) in Saints Row 4 which reminds me in a cycle of Staypuff Marshmellow Man in GB1.
Yeah, that song buildup to the torch exploding was badass. At the end credits of the movie, it shows the statue back on the pedestal. The statue broke in two when it rammed the torch through the museum. I'm guessing it was repaired.
This scene will always be my favorite, it’s the positive feeling you get when the Statue of Liberty starts to move, it’s incredible with the help of special effects, cgi, and greenscreen
Ghostbusters 2 is an incredible movie! It deserved so so much more love! It's everything you could possibly want from a Ghostbusters movie, it evolved the characters the right way and the whole concept of the town turning on them the moment they finished they're job from the first movie is awesomely accurate to how many get ungratefully tossed away when they've served they're purpose! Then when they come back they're better than ever! People believe in them! They get new gadgets through the Slime Hose, new ghosts and monsters to fight, new chills, new laughs and a BADASS new villain to fight! All culminating in an absolutely incredible finale about coming together to overcome the darkness together, through the power of New York's most iconic landmark, something that unites every single one who lives there! I as a kid despite being from the UK watching this on DVD with my dad I remember leaping up and down to the beat of Higher and Higher and also the excitement of seeing them riding mothertrucking Lady Liberty to battle! She's tough! SHE'S A HARBOUR CHICK! I freaking love Ghostbusters 2! I'll never stop loving this film! Respect to you Ivan, Dan and Harold! And god bless you Harold! Keep soaring higher and higher forever you legend!
As a missouri Midwestern girl I've always had a sense of pride where I came from, but this scene just goes to show that there is something about the spirit and soul of New Yorkers that just brings out an optimistic feeling in us all, hope I get to see it in person one day
As a Philadelphia-born individual, I come from the City of Brotherly Love. I have this sense of pride and I fully empathize with those New Yorkers. This world needs more positive energy than ever!
Ghostbusters 2 and Afterlife are the reason I never listen to critics. A movie can be fun, over the top, and not 'serious, a movie should only need one thing LOTS OF HEART, and both Ghostbusters 2 and Afterlife delivered on all fronts.
"Ok, so how was your car damaged sir?" "Well you see, the Statue of Liberty walked off of her pedestal, went through the harbor, and came into Manhattan. My car was parked in the lane to direct traffic. Lady Liberty stepped on it." "............ummmmm.....try harder if you want to scam us." 😂
This is one of those movie concepts that you hear in an “unmade sequels” list: The ghostbusters use slime with emotions to give them control of the Statue of Liberty, which they use to defeat an evil 700 year old magician
People have taken this sequel for granted like they took the message for granted. The consequences of negative emotions and importance of the positive emotions. I was five years old when this movie came out. In fact, I’ve gotten to know the sequel long before the original! When that female Ghostbusters came out, It really made this sequel look more of a masterpiece. I’m so glad afterlife was made. But it’s good to know that in Ghostbusters 2, slimer has learned the importance of responsibility and earning his life as a bus driver.
Can you imagine if this actually happened in NY in real life? The amount of people that would legitimately go nuts to seeing Lady Liberty walking down the streets of Manhattan?!
DeBlasio would rally up his pack of social media nincompoops and call it racist. They would throw eggs at it as a symbol of racism. Maybe even spray paint her feet. The events of the last two years shows how much NY and major cities have changed.
I'm not one to say modern movies aren't as good, as there are some I quite love. But I would really like to point out the timing of the joke at 1:10. Venkmen starts while he isn't in the center of the screen, and was just previously walked in front of by Egon. It continues with him going into the background. Winston says a line, as Venkmen walks behind him, segmenting Venkmen in dialogue and visual. Finishing line in the joke happens after he crosses behind, and is easily missed as Winston and Ray continue with more lines while being the focus. I'm not going to say that sort of thing is absent today, or was common then, but I do think it makes it feel a bit more organic. The fact that the audience could be trusted to miss it the first time. That there is no pause and blatant focus to make sure everyone knows it is a joke. It just flows well.
This is the movie we need in 2024. You can't help but love how optimistic this film is about the world and how no matter how many people tell you to give up on it, a lot of people are still out there trying to make it a better place.
This was really a brilliant moment of creative writing using the Statue of Liberty to rally the city for "Here comes the cavalry riding to save the day!" moment. Thank you for posting this video!
Gotta love this whole scene. Darkness is almost upon them, and how do they fight back: by hosting a parade right through the middle of New York, with Lady Liberty as the star of the show. Good wholesome song to uplift everyone's spirits as they cheer, with the Ghostbusters encouraging them to sing alone in joy. Sometimes all it takes to combat evil is by demonstrating goodness of heart, and the Ghostbusters are showing Vigo just how good they are at bringing some light into the city with joyous song and Lady Liberty leading the way. ❤
Even if you're not a big fan of the sequel, you gotta be cold-hearted or a robot or a cold-hearted robot to not even like this scene. It's just so.....positive and warm and feel-good. That song is just so catchy, how can it NOT affect a person?
1:44 - “Pilot controls are ready.” You do realize that the Ghostbusters are using the Nintendo NES Advantage joystick to steer Lady Liberty! (Earlier in the film, Louis suggests to Janine “You wanna play Boggle or Super Mario Bros.?”)
Ghostbusters II is Very Very Good. While it does Repeat the Same Beats as The First Film, it’s message about how we should all be good to one and other is a Really Good Message to be Said.
it was 1989, cgi effects mostly weren't a thing, even digital compositing was a new idea that was still in its infancy. everything was either practical effects, real miniatures, puppets, props, matte paintings, or special effects painted in by hand by animators with actual paintbrushes and tools frame-by-frame. computers in the movies were still in their baby steps back then for anything past motion controls for miniature animation, ILM had just barely figured out how to stick a photorealistic texture onto a CG shape a year before GB2 came out. A lot of artistry and hard work went into em, and it still stands up pretty well today.
Man just watching that part where they show Lady Liberty walking down the street looking down at everyone you can clearly tell it's an actress dressed up to look like her just from the way the bottom of the costume is moving.
@3:29 - I miss the days of this kind of film-making - matte painting, miniatures, propwork. Nothing snaps you out of your imagination more than films that rely so heavily on 3D post production - thirty-two years later, this film (and this scene especially) always makes me smile; it's supposed to be feel good, of course, but the subtle production design of the Statue moving rigidly like fragile copper sheet, the torch exploding into flames and the cheeky ironic humour of her head bobbing just above the harbour, like she truly is unstoppable, is what makes me feel like a kid again. If only more films would appeal to our inner child now...
I saw it when I was like six, and not only that, I distinctly remember sulking in my parents' garage because they wouldn't give me the money to rent it for the fourth time!
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”-Lady Liberty🗽
This is the kind of thing you'd swear would give birth to an actual spirit. Like imagine a sequel where it's revealed their act created like a Liberty ghost and was fighting all the evil ghosts
I love both the first and second movie, but this scene is phenomenal, you cant help but feel patriotic. But i also love the fact that the Titanic eventually made it and completed its voyage 🚢
Back here in 2024, this is the feeling everyone in America should be sharing right now, instead of fighting with friends and neighbors. Remember that we were the best because we were all on the same team.
In the first film, people were fleeing in terror from a large marching monster.
In the second film, people were gathering and cheering a large marching Lady.
Just goes to show, Lady Liberty will inspire and make people cheer any time of year.

I read somewhere that he has Aspergers, yet he put on some unforgettable roles.
I always loved that Ray took responsibility for destroying the cop car, just like he did in the first film with the chandelier: "I did that! I did that, that's my fault!" Lol.
He is Canadian that's why lol
Everyone talks about how hilarious Venkman is when Ray literally has these underrated scenes like that
I thought, that Egon was steering Libby, but it was actually Ray, it's shown earlier (in this clip), that he has the controller, so assuming he has it the whole time and not passing it to the others, he is the one to blame for that smashed police car. And therefore he is the one to apologise.
It's okay. The table broke the fall. :)
@@MetalJuggalo You can't count Egon out as well. When they realize they're still running low on time and can't move the statue faster without shaking her to pieces.
Ray: Maybe we should've padded her feet.
Egon: I don't think they make Nikes in her size, Ray.
I love how they used an nes controller to control the Statue of Liberty
Because they're playing with Power! 😄

Avgn: "Nintendo ruled the fucken world"
Commercially GB2 was a complete success - making $215 million on a budget between $30/40 million. I've always liked it.
Thankfully Ghostbusters 2016 took the title of worst GB movie.
This is like the only enjoyable scene in the film. I didn’t know so many people like Ghostbusters 2.

"She's tough! She's a harbor chick!" That line has always made me smile, so a lot of reasons. I hope she still is.

"Keep kickin' Libby! You make this work and we'll spring for a weekend in Vegas with the jolly Green Giant!"
I don’t care how absurd this concept is, this was an inspirational and epic scene that brought me a lot of joy. Ghostbusters 2 is my favorite in the franchise.
All 3 movies R great. (The reboot movie means nothing 2 me.)
Seeing Lady Liberty come to the aid of Her city makes this movie worth it.

IMO, one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.
God bless You Family 🇺🇸✌️😊🤗💥
This movie is so good it made me gay
Love it when the torch explodes, starts flaming for real. Also, I've always wondered; what happened to the Statue of Liberty, after the movie ended, since if I remember correctly it ends up on it's side outside of wherever Vigo and Danna are.
I guess they're able to get it back onto its pedestal. You see a celebration for the Ghostbusters on Liberty Island during the credits, and the statue is back in its original place. Perhaps they used the positive-charged slime to take control again and walk it back?
@@glennwelsh9784 Yes, the credits show her back in one piece and back home guarding NYC on Liberty Island. Perhaps they used choppers to get her back?

Ghostbusters 2 doesn’t get the love it deserves
The original had it's moments but for me this is one of several reasons this was superior
Great scene
Ray with the cigar always reminds me of Hannibal from the a-team

Damn right
People think I'm dumb for loving the 66 Batman series more than any other Batman but that's because its fun
Imagine trying to get insurance to pay for the cop car getting smashed:
"The Statue of Liberty stepped on it!"
They'll just call Farmers Insurance
😂😂🤣🤣🤣
I lift my lamp beside the Green Gecko!
Insurance agent "Was it an act of God?"
Ray "No?"
Winston *shakes his head*
IA: "THEN.. DenIEd!!!"
"Ok, so how was your car damaged sir?"
"Well you see, the Statue of Liberty walked off of her pedestal, went through the harbor, and came into Manhattan. My car was parked in the lane to direct traffic. Lady Liberty stepped on it."
"............ummmmm.....try harder if you want to scam us." 😂
This is one of those movie concepts that you hear in an “unmade sequels” list:
The ghostbusters use slime with emotions to give them control of the Statue of Liberty, which they use to defeat an evil 700 year old magician
Their dedication and knowledge of the paranormal "keeps lifting" all of New York "higher and higher!". Stay safe everyone!
This scene always pumps me up and puts me in a good mood! Must be all that positive psychomagnotheric slime.

Not to mention the music guys. I have tears and smiles!

They'd probably be running for their lives.
It would be a awesome sight though!
@@eduardomagana3858 Worth it.
They’re New Yorkers. They’d just glance up, say “Meh”, and get on with their lives.
The Statue of Liberty 🗽 idea was genius
Every time I hear this I always think of this scene.
*[dancing toaster intensifies]*
Murray's face 0:35 so adorable, love all the face expressions he does in Ghostbusters 1&2 🤭
I don't get how people say Bill Murray phoned in his performance. It's feels like Peter Venkman regardless.
Even if you're not a big fan of the sequel, you gotta be cold-hearted or a robot or a cold-hearted robot to not even like this scene. It's just so.....positive and warm and feel-good. That song is just so catchy, how can it NOT affect a person?

Ghostbusters II is Very Very Good. While it does Repeat the Same Beats as The First Film, it’s message about how we should all be good to one and other is a Really Good Message to be Said.
I am not at all ashamed to say that I absolutely love GBII just as much as the original.
I actually prefer the sequel.
Me to!
This one of my favorite scenes I also loved the use of the NES Advantage Controller to move the Statue of Liberty towards the museum.
What i love about these kind of movies is that theres rly not alot of cgi its pretty much all hand done thats what makes them epic and memorable
it was 1989, cgi effects mostly weren't a thing, even digital compositing was a new idea that was still in its infancy. everything was either practical effects, real miniatures, puppets, props, matte paintings, or special effects painted in by hand by animators with actual paintbrushes and tools frame-by-frame. computers in the movies were still in their baby steps back then for anything past motion controls for miniature animation, ILM had just barely figured out how to stick a photorealistic texture onto a CG shape a year before GB2 came out. A lot of artistry and hard work went into em, and it still stands up pretty well today.
Man just watching that part where they show Lady Liberty walking down the street looking down at everyone you can clearly tell it's an actress dressed up to look like her just from the way the bottom of the costume is moving.
This scene was my introduction to Ghostbusters. I remember seeing on TV and loving it.

Those dock supervisors wont forget the titanic and Statue of Liberty
The fact that they were using an NES Advantage to move the statue was just the cherry on the sundae.
I also liked when the flame exploded and started to burn.
The mightiness of Lady Liberty.
