    We inherited a 100 year old house built by family. They had a huge walk in pantry full of generations of old cookware that THEY inherited! We have so many pieces of strange cast iron! I'm so glad we found your channel! We had no clue how to get them back in order, but now we are slowly getting them into shape! Thank you so much!!

    Possibly the most impressive piece is the Phillips & Buttorff with the original lid. 19th century dutch ovens that still have their lids are quite rare.

    that enameled BSR is just beautiful the yellow is timeless, I was lucky enough to recently inherit a BSR no. 8 10 5/8 in. & a 3 notch lodge #8 marked B as well as the #8 chicken fryer they’re currently in a lye tank. I am most excited about the BSR for sure, I know these pans haven’t been cooked in since way before I was born when my grandparents were just married and lived in Alabama. Have a good one Stephen!

    Your Foundry clock is very cool! I enjoyed seeing your oddball pieces too. I’m finally getting around to ordering your Easy Beezy. Sorry it took me so long. I wanted to use up my Cisco first. I don’t cook with Cisco, just used it to season my CI. Why didn’t just throw it out? Because I was brought up to believe it’s a sin to waste food. My parents lived through the Great Depression so we are all very frugal. Okay, cheap. Thank you for sharing a scripture with us 🙏 God bless you and your family and keep you well.

    I have a cracked #5 Mi-Pet, and I've seen one that said "Chicago, Ill. Milwaukee,Wis" and something else I can't remember, but it didn't say Western Foundry so maybe the brand name changed hands at some point. One of my other odd pieces is a 9" Griswold stove damper. You should be able to get clock movements at Hobby Lobby or other craft stores. They'll have the battery ones on hand and can probably order an electric one if you wanted to go that route.

    Thanks Stephen. Very interesting stuff. Sorry but I cannot answer your question about Mi-Pet. I do have some interesting odd pieces as well. a #9 SMS (Southern Mystery Skillet) with a raised 9 and SJ. Very cool. Identical to those some say are Blacklock. I also have a couple skillets that have both gatemarks and the small nub legs. I assumed the nubs are the original size because there are no obvious grinding or saw marks. I also have a lantern just like the first you showed with the spring door. Cool. Some other odd but not unknown are a Chicago Hardware Foundry skillet that has a SaniWare brand. A Ozark/Crescent skillet and also a dutch oven from St Louis, an O'Brien & O'Brien DO from Chicago, as well as a couple skillets identical to Vollrath but with no markings whatsoever. Also several really old pot/caldrons that have long since been relegated to being garden pots. Thanks for all of your videos and service to this community.

    I've been adding to my collection, not all are what is considered collectable. I'm up to around 10 various cornstick pans. I mainly buy affordable pieces, picked up 7 pieces for $20 sight unseen, a couple were worth it but did consist of four #3 China skillets and a #8 Taiwan.

  • @crewnail1763
    @crewnail1763 3 года назад

    One piece is a #8 size lid with the randomly punched self basting divots. I can't remember who makes them but remember seeing something about it in a video.

    I cant believe you have a pan with a pour spout opposite the handle! I've been saying for years that's the most logical and ergonomic place for a pour spout but never knew one was actually made. I have carpal tunnel and turning a full skillet sideways with one hand while using the other to scrape out the contents is impossible. I must grab the handle palm up then it will hang naturally from my hand with no strain on my wrist. This makes a mess pouring over the "helper handle" but I've had to live with that minor inconvenience. I'll be on the hunt for a piece like this now that I know it exists............ BTW, I love the content on your channel.

    I believe Mi-pets are from the 1930's. I have 3 pieces #5, #8, skillets and a dutch oven. I've seen a #5 oval roaster, #9 griddle, #3 skillet, and #8 chicken fryer.

    • @grivolas2144
      @grivolas2144 3 года назад +1

      I want to add why I believe they are from the 30's. My #8 doesn't say western foundry, but says quintuplet cookware in its place. I believe this particular skillet was made to commemorate the birth of the Dionne girls in Canada in 1934 as the first surviving identical quintuplets.

      I found some info on Reddit about western foundry employee strikes in the 30’s and 40’s but that’s all I’ve found on the mi pet cast iron. I’ve tried searching everywhere after inheriting the chicken fryer from my grandmother who got it from her grandmother. Thanks for the videos and info!

    I have an odd ball cast iron skillet. When university rental homes are left by the students, you can get lucky. This has no name, and was quite rusty. My husband took it home. After a good seasoning, it is a favourite. We have also found enamel pans when digging up our garden around our 130 year old house. I always wondered wht they would bury them. Also lots of pieces of dishes. Very strange. Sadly we had to downsize when our 10 children moved out and I couldn't care for the house on my own. Still miss the country.

    • @browneye6000

      People back in old days would bury there trash in a low spot on their property, glass, metal, cans, anything that wouldn't burn. Very frugal , to save money.

      Of of over 100 skillets, my favorite is a Sidney Hollowware # 8 skillet. Perfect in every way from the 1890s. Paid $40.00 in an antique store. Cast iron from this time were the greatest ever created. Thinner, because a different cast iron formulation allowed it ( not made from melted down engine blocks), no automation and great craftsmanship. Nothing second rate got passed those guys !
