I'm here in Porto Alegre, capital of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. The area of the dilluvium is comparable to the area of the whole Great Britain. Most of this area was completely destroyed by the massive rains (800mm in 48 hours) and floods. Most of the local population (the State has 11 million inhabs.) has lost everything and now faces the problems of having no potable water or food to survive. Certainly this is one of the major climatic disasters in recorded mankind history in terms of displacement area and even economic losses. We're running out of time to save our planet...

My house is completely destroyed and flooded with river water, And it doesn't stop there, One of my refrigerators just slammed into the floor and is with water, Every food stored is spoiled. We managed to restore 3 TVs. And a bike, But the bike is non-clean, Still with river water, We also lost a collection of numbers of cans that can't even be counted, which we would sell to get money, Now we lost them. It was a disaster.

I believe it started raining on 4/27 till 5/5-6. I was visiting Porto Alegre and left on 4/23. If I had stayed a few more days, I would have been stranded there because the airport is closed until the end of May.

Rio Grande do Sul is close to Antarctica and is the entrance corridor for polar masses that, when they collide with the hot continental mass, produce heavy storms.

I know the full explanation. It has to do with the anticlockwise coriolis effect bringing very humid air from the Amazon, southwards along the Andes. That same air at this time of the year turns east at the latitude of Rio Grande do Sul and it should turn NORTH AGAIN alongside the brazilian coast.
HOWEVER, due to a massive high pressure hot and dry air mass over all of central Brazil acting like a WALL, this "airborne river", that should rain all over Brazil, got locked OVER Rio Grande do Sul state, until the cold war coming from the south collided with it condensing all that water and making water that should go all over Brazil fall over a single state.

Only useful in the north that is far away enough to not be affected by this kind of practice bcs how wind in the atmosphere behave.
