I’m not a dog person, but my neighbor had one of these heelers and I took care of it for one summer while they were away, and I absolutely fell in love with this breed… when they came back, I immediately got my own and she is literally my best friend.
A year late to the party but I grew up with German Shepherd dogs and never thought I would own another breed. My wife doesn't like them so I compromised with a blue heeler. They are my new favorite breed. Active, hard working, loyal, highly intelligent and shockingly strong for their size.
We had an Aussie/Belgian Shepard mix. He was a rescue, found abandoned in the woods at 12 weeks old. He became my loyal, protective velcro boy. The mix in him help arrest his activity level a bit, but he still tried to herd my mini dachshund which was hilarious. Both head strong breeds so yeah, they told each other off...😂. We lost him to cancer 6 weeks ago, such a hole in our lives. Have been thinking of another..❤
This is beautiful to watch. This ACD is clearly in his element.
This is one tough breed! Doesn’t back down even while dodging kicks from all directions.
They're fearless. About 40 geese came in one day and thought they were king of the beach. They learned he could swim that day... oops.
Bred that way, very robust and healthy, great for cattle, way to rough for other flocks like sheep.
Have my fifth acd now. She is 15 and taking it easy nowadays. The best thing is that they love to work, they think it’s a lot of fun! Agility, obedience, herding… everything is just fun. They love to show how good and smart they are. They have even sense of humor and fool you every now and then 😄.
heelers are so badass..
I had one once. The dog did'nt need training as a pup. That little critter knew everything !! It was and still is mind blowing.
Mindreaders and eager to please!
I have one and they're unbelievably intelligent and intuitive. When I want him to do something I talk to him like a person and he understands. We taught him to chase geese out of the yard and leave ducks alone. Took about 3 tries.
It makes me giddy to see them actually nip at a cattle's heel for some reason; living up to their names... Super smart; I love mine!
To see them work and do what they are bred for accounts for many peoples problem with them nipping ec. But it is in them they know they must do it but if not in the right environment they might nip the wrong thing.
@@theaustraliancattledog7012 I have two Great Danes, and my ACD nips at them. I thought it was just annoying puppy behavior, but she does it exactly like your dogs on the cattle. Thankfully the Danes couldn't care less.
When I get home with my heeler, Rory, and let her out of the car, she darts around to the back of the car and nip/bites the left rear tire. When we were young and she was bored, she'd nip (at) my left hock when I wasn't walking fast enough. It's a genetic default, and it's nice to see videos of how it's supposed to work
My wife and I were driving around Norway, we stopped to wait for a ferry to cross a Fiord and got out of our car and wandered down to the waterside, along came a middle aged Norwegian woman in full National dress, obviously dressed up and going to an event, accompanied by an Australian Cattle Dog, also wearing his dress in the form of ribbons. We stopped the woman and asked if she knew what the dog was, she not only knew but used him to herd her cattle and also to compete in Trials and had won many events. She was also proud of the fact her made good money as a stud! We asked her how he handled the winter, she said sometimes she put him in boots and a hat, but otherwise he worked the winter just as well, but her cattle spent 4 to 5 months of the year inside!
I got one of these rascals from a rescue for a pet. Takes a lot of work to keep him happy, but he’s a great dog that rides with me everywhere. Be ready to get involved with dog sports, training or herding if you want one of these, particularly if you get a working line dog! After you run them for a few hours per day minimum, they are epic cuddlers
That is so true! Dingo gets alot of stimulation and he works hard so he is tired at night and makes a epic cuddle buddy. But beware if we have day off... because he is so fit he can get quite busy.
the most sincere description of the way of being a blue heeler
Love mine! She is a great SW Tax desert hiker and hunter and a great companion
I have a 50/50 Border Collie/Heeler. She is freaking great. Many hours at the dog park. She can skip a day or two but you see the energy build up and know its time to get it burnt off. Try to go daily for an hour or two of good hard play time.
@@bbaff8622My boy is a Amstaff/ACD cross and he is the same, if he doesn't get his daily exercise you can see the energy level building rapidly, and he starts trying to herd the cat around.😂
Every one of those moo cows are like, “fine I’m GOING! Gaaaahd! Jeeez!”
Hahaha - yes - I also saw that 😂
I have 2 pups. Sisters. Teaching them to trail wounded deer and find antler sheds. They are extremely intelligent dogs. I plan to teach them to track people also. Hopefully they can provide some help someday.
So different watching Border Collies, move in slow, crouched, methodical. Then comes the Heeler "Move it or else, and keep moving till I say stop."
HA! HA! Exactly so.
@@hotartesian4163 my girl is a 50/50 mix.
She is not sure which one to do. With cats she sneaks till they move, then all heeler.
80 pounds of terror in a 40 pound dog! Love my red heeler!
@@richardmitton4115 i have a border collie/blue heeler, 50/50 split. She will start with creeping then move on to more heeler behavior when playing.
Смелая и умная собака, верный друг и помощник человеку.👍
Born and bred to work. If someone asks what's the sadest thing to see, I often say " An unemployed heeler" . Kind regards to you and your family from Nth Qld, Australia.
I agree!
Where do you find a good working heeler lines these days?
When crossed with Kelpie or border, now that’s a gun👍🏼
Never met a defective heeler, huh? I got one that will walk to the end of the drive way and sit down... "I'll be here when you get back." seems to be her motto 🤣
I feel bad I got my heeler when I was pregnant and she’s a city girl. Smh I blame my husband he got me the puppy
@@MrDeKemperI knew a kelpie like that. She preferred to sleep on the couch and was sooo calm. Could take her everywhere. She passed of pancreas cancer..
I have the first Texas Heeler that I have had in 30 years. Still the best yard dog in captivity.
That dog is truly fearless !!! ❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩🤩
Amazing to see !
They are known for being absolutely fearless when U consider they face down huge bull's that can weigh close to a ton it's very impressive
I rescued an ACD mix back in '08. I had another dog, who was twice her size and she was always nipping at his heels. It was funny to see him high stepping to avoid it. I had never heard of cattle dogs until i rescued her, but she was the smartest and best dog I've ever had. They are the best and i miss her everyday!
he knows his job bless him x
My red heeler Lucy takes at least two hours hiking a day with the chuck it ball. There are cows on the property but she really doesn’t have to herd them unless they are in the way. We are lucky to have miles of open space. My 3rd Queensland. Love watching the working doggies. The owner and dog have a special relationship that takes hours of patience and practice to get in sync with moving livestock🙏✨🙏.
As an ACD companion dog owner it's so cool to see them work. 😻
Thank you 😊
I got a heeler and have no farm, boy have I learned, we spend a lot of time outside playing ball, running her while I drive my side by side. I do have a large property and let her have free roam of it, she goes wherever she wants. I just wanted a smaller to medium dog so when they get older I will be able to help them.
I have one Heeler..His name is Pirata.
I am from Brazil.
A working dog is a happy dog
I rescued my blue heeler for 60$ best money I ever spent ❤
This is why these dogs cost so much! Just amazing dogs !
watching dogs work is the most magical experience
these are amazingly intelligent. I seen them get to work at a sheep farm once, the farmer has 6 of them, comes shearing time he just motioned to the dogs and they run off while we make our way to the sheering shed. we got to the shed 15 minutes walk away and the farmer went and opened the gate of a pen next to the shed that feeds into it, couple more minutes goes by and the dogs are herding a flock of sheep toward us from over the horizon, into the pen, and the farmer just closed it get to the shed and start shearing. The pack of dogs all heelers, went out and roam around the farm land by themselves, find the sheep, gather them up and brought them over. Large farm too, we couldn't see where the sheep were over the horizon and bushes in any directions, the dogs found them anyway.
They are truly great dogs, I am always happy to hear stories like this it's AMAZING! would get more heelers in the future for that same reason one dog by its own is great but more than one is amazing, the way they work together is just out of this world.
Sheep? Heelers? Sure they weren't Kelpies? Queensland Heelers are way to rough for sheep, and tire from the constant running unlike Kelpies. Heelers are way to mouthy for sheep. They were bred specifically for cattle, bloody tough dogs, can take a kick from a cow and come back and give the cow what for! Kelpies were bred for sheep, far more agile, but not as robust.
@@markhill9275yep cattle dog's and sheep are not a good match . As you said, they like to get too "mouthy" with 'em. I've seen quite a few Americans "play around " with sheep and cattle dogs.
@@markhill9275 Kelpie crosses at least,as heelers don't caste
Omg this is such a great video thanks for posting!
I just rescued a 4mth old Red heeler yesterday and i take him home today
U are a great person for rescuing that pup U will now have the most loyal pup ever be prepared to have a Velcro pup who will even go to the bathroom with u and every where else for that matter U now have the best companion ever .
Fearless creatures, ours was from when she was just a pup…..love so much!
Bluey and Bingo’s future careers, set in stone for adulthood.
Haha best show ever
@@seanbayley7452 Indeed, for real life!
One wee dog and thousands of pounds of cattle. Magnificent dog.
I love my little man he keeps his big sister Great Dane in line.
Just got a Blue Heeler/Kelpie mix puppy and I now understand what people mean by high maintenance and need for exercise 😂
She's only 10wks but omg she's got energy. And she's SMART as heck!
I'm trying to come up with actually useful jobs for her to do for the family. Just tiring her out physically is not cutting it. Girl needs some mental stimulation.
They are the two most iconic Australian working dogs u got there all in one haha. U have one smart insanely energetic pup on your hands there and can ado be the best m8 u will ever know as these guys are loyal to a fault and once they pick their favourite person whoever that is will never go anywhere alone again if said pup is around these guys are the epitome of Velcro dogs and also the most loving devoted dog u will ever know.
We rescued a Kelpie (with a hint of GSD in him) about two years ago. He an amazing dog, but needs a lot of exercise. When we first got him, he’d want to play but he’d nip at us and it was more like a pinch! Not fun at all! He finally stopped and we were ever so grateful! lol He’s a smart boy, but being a rescue, I’d define him as “street-smart”. We love this guy wholeheartedly and if we were able, we’d buy him a herd of sheep to keep him occupied! 😂
He's having a ball. Love it!
God bless the Australian Cattle Dog!
it's bluey! 😊
Wow...this dog definitely got the memo📝 👏👏
That little dog is worth its weight in Gold, awesome
My Queensland blue heeler used to get us all out of various rooms in the house and into the living room, where, in her opinion we all belonged. I felt like a cow. I miss her greatly.
Maybe even more fun to watch than a Border Collie with a herd of sheep
Reminds me of the adage about electricians having the highest IQs in the trades - the low ones get selected out.
Can’t help but wonder whether much the same with ACDs when the breed was developing in the 19th c.
Might be the hardest job a dog has. Such bad ass little dogs
This is my first time viewing this channel and I’m a new subscriber. My Blue Heeler is Bella. I’d love to just test her herding instincts, but I think I’d try sheep. One of those kicks could kill an inexperienced dog. I saw my first Heelers when I was about 10. A Dairy Farmer had a pair all his life. They are the smartest dogs on earth!! You don’t own a Heeler, they own you!😊
Skidboot. Look it up. Another amazing heeler!
Gorgeous dog!
My dog is half heeler (half lab). He demands constant interaction and activity. He's ten now and has so much drive, still. He's smart, does scent training, courageous and the best friend ever. Always busy. I wouldn't hesitate to take on a full bred someday, but I give everything to my dogs, and one thing, unless you are a confident alpha they are tough to train. But, I had to be trained too as it was my first dog as an adult and I take him everywhere, city and country.
I've heard humans are the only species that will follow a bad leader.
Cool video.
they are really tough dogs. one of their main health problems is that they don't actually feel the pain when they are hurt, then they continue working/ playing etc which makes the injury worse.
Amazing that this dog works (and looks ) exactly like my male ACD! I can watch a good dog work all day. Love the video.
They just enjoy living and working so much that they make it a pleasure to live with them
True aussie spirit . Love the blue healer
As someone who has lived on farms and regularly visited some when I lived in the City, I would rate Border Collies and Kelpies their equal. This does not diminish a Bluey’s (Blue Healers) abilities. As the two mentioned have very similar traits. Blueys tend to be a bit more aggressive with the animals. Rounding up wild bush cattle requires their hard work. With sheep they need to be more restrained, can scatter them if too hard at it. All breed nip the cattle’s heels.
All of them get the occasional kick in the head. Border Collies swing in a huge arc on a bulls tail. A great feat and really entertaining to watch.
Once kicked in the head they go and lie under the farmhouse or the milking shed or some place, throw up and sleep for three days. Then bounce out like nothing has happened. Tough as old boots, indispensable for moving herds, highly valued by farmers in Australia….
Best dogs in the world. Miss my boy Jester, would of had that mob in double time.
It's crazy how quick the dog is and how it slips the cattle's kicks.
That dog knows that when bitten the cattle will kick, therefore the dog is moving before the kick.
I worked with a Border Collie that understood this and he worked out the hoof, that tried kick him into last week, would land into the same spot and it then could then be nipped again. This applies to cattle standing still. To kick the hoof had to lift of the ground, so the dog would just pull his head back and put on the ground. The hoof would pass over him allowing him to continuing his job.
I have one, and another Border Heeler, both rescue dogs and while they have a fine home and get plenty of stimulation I feel like they are being held back without being on a farm/ranch
They love working
One of the hardest working breeds
I know it's instinct and breeding but goodness they're brave! ..and need lightening reflexes. Those cows weigh what 750 - 1000lb? Still felt sorry for those cows stuck at the back LOL Good doggy.
I can run my pup all day, by the time we get home hes bringin me a frisbee or ball. Never ending energy
The energy levels on these guys is on another level, my guy used to go swimming all day in the dam on our old property here in Australia and in the end id have to go get him out of the water myself, I've never known a dog who loves water as much as my boy bandit m8 I think he was a dolphin in a previous life.
@@seanbayley7452 I guess their affinity for water entirely depends on their environment. My pup loves the woods, but a few times near a lake, he wasnt having anything to do with it. Even after throwing him in a few times to see what he'd do
@@ej732 yeah U think you are right bout that it just depends on the dog though if U were to go swimming I'm sure your pup would be right in after U as they want to do whatever it is your doing
@@seanbayley7452 You're right about that, he's my velcro shadow
@@ej732 yeah I often hear people call their dogs Velcro dogs but this breed is the epitome of a Velcro dog they choose a person and that is their best m8 for life and will be by your side whatever it is you may be doing even going to the frikin bathroom haha.
Getting mine tomorrow
My ACD loves herding my indoor house cat back into the house. No nipping, she just likes to show him back into the door.
When we got ours, the cat was twice her size. The cat should have taken that chance to train the little heeler. OOPS! Now she is twice the size of the cat. The still pup is relentless with the cat. There is no harm done, but the dog definitely harrasses the poor cat.
Wow what an amazing dog. Herding cattle is dangerous work. He is quick to avoid getting kicked. 😮 I am cool with my Chihuahua. 😂
Much harder job than herding sheep. Lots more opportunities to get injured. They do make the job a whole lot easier than horses.
These dogs are completely different from border collies. Sheep will move when the border collie just looks at them. These cattle dogs have to move cows that are at least 50 times bigger than they are and don't want to move. The dogs actually have to nip them to get them to move. Imagine doing that all day long to a herd of cows who would like nothing better than to stomp you into the ground. Huge respect!
Que ermoso perro muy intelijentes estos perros yo tego uno asi me ayuda en todo con mis gallinas a pastoriarlas con mi ganado ya lo traen en la sangre estos perritos so un amor
Very brave and courageous
Love the pit stop.
This shows why these dogs are so bossy... its necessary!
My dad used to have a Red Heeler and my sister had two Blue Heelers and they were very smart dogs I'm thinking about getting one
Wow one dog to handle so much cattle is amazing. Iv seen Border Collies doing the same but there is 4 or 5 of them and the cattle don't seem as scared of them.
You bring the heeler in for the muscle - they do the same thing with horses too
Great dog
Собака прелесть,хороший помощник
Great vid m8. She's totally fearless. And loving it. Top dog m8.
Fearless , trustworthy n loyal .
They certainly are
They are very smart.
They nip the heel of cattle.
That's why they are also called
Blue Heelers.
💪💯🇦🇺
Last one is not a rotten egg but gets the cattle dog.

What a perfect video showing the essentials of what an ACD is all about. Really brought a smile to my face and made me laugh.
Beautiful!
Die hond is twee taalig, Ozzie en Afrikaans. Slim hond
How does he miss those kicks?! Fabulous
I’m dog sitting an ACD and now I feel so bad that she doesn’t get to work. She’s constant energy and I’m worn out playing fetch with her! Lol
Ow so smart and active. I loved it
Great job by this dog!!🤩
Such good dogs. Love mine.
This explains a lot about my friend. The dog in this video is a little smaller than mine. A female maybe? She can the bulls with no problem.
We need a couple of "blueies" at trans rights rallies.
Good work, those are some sassy cows and bulls too.
Got a dog I thought was a lab mix but after getting to know her, I suspected something was up when she was constantly trying to manage the household and did a DNA test, she was a damn 3rd heeler.
I love u😊😊😊
Just got another heeler from the Amish after not having one for years missed having one to help work the farm
Doing its job 😊❤🎉

This is what the old expression, "the devil take the hindmost" looks like
Do they get kicked often or do they know how to dodge those kicks?
