Not gonna lie you are my favorite person as of right now. This is one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had and I’m not even in the car your personality is great
Never used APR on diesels. Theyre OK for gasser, but for diesels it's either Kerma or Malone if you want best of the best in North America, Darkside in UK I'd great too.
My buddy has the tune in his wife's o10 manual tdi. His turbo eventually died but was covered under deiselgate warranty. He put stock tune back on. Dealer fix turbo free of charge re-installed the tune. 🤙🏽
Its not that simple. The dealer scan tool sees the quantity of flashes and if they find a mismatch between prior and current count, they can deny warranty claims.
Got the Komi sport suspension and the Kerma tdi tunes for engine and transmission. More than happy with my Passat. Love the torque. Why risk all the problems with the engine and illegal exhaust with Malone, etc? And fuel consumption is higher on my 165,000 mile engine too.
Mad aint it, the tune totally transforms the car, you should be getting close to the same torque as a golf R now and thats close to insanity on a 2 wheeled drive car, had mine done a while back and never regretted it for a second, my mechanic even recommended getting it done says its actually good for the engine, glad to see you waited for the engine to warm up properly before putting your foot down if you look after it and get the servicing done on time you will be fine
Its quite the transformation. Granted it's still slow as anything being 170hp, BUT highway passing in 6th is just fantastic now. I like to let my cars warm up before doing any real work. Some oil temperature before loading up the engine goes a long way for its lifespan. I'd really like to put a CJAA into a Mk1 Rabbit/Golf/GTI
@@BonusParts with diesels its all about the torque which is what gets you moving rather than the BHP, truth is in a 2 wheeled drive car the max you can really push it to is about 240 BHP max without loosing traction, mines around 180 BHP I also find its a lot slower with a full tank of fuel once you get to about 3 quarters to about half full it flies, and the economy is still great 👍
Part of the slow issue is the massive difference in power between it and my other car. It's almost 400hp and over 100ft lbs. All in all, it runs well for a straight up appliance of a car, which is exactly why I chose it to replace my 1.6D Rabbit for daily driving.
Just a 2022 update: with spring in the air and temps rising along with fuel prices, I've been driving more carefully. Last 2 fills have achieved 47.5 and 49.96 mpg respectively.
I just bought a 2015 tdi and it feels very responsive. Never owned one. I got it from a dealer so idk if it’s already tuned. I get the same mpg. Wish I could tell if it had one on it before I buy a tune.
Its unlikely your car is tuned. The 2015s have the next generation TDI 2.0l, off the rip they make a bit more power (10hp 20tq roughly) and were minimally affected by the "fix" A tune would further improve it, but the 15 is a great year to own in general
@@BonusParts well I read online that they used to be like 13k with 30k miles. I guess I got a good deal. 12k for 100k miles lol. But I’m having trouble finding the best tune and brand No delete stock everything.
Kerma has a tune, they are always for full emission equipment. Malone also should offer an emissions intact tune. If you were considering changing things up later, Malone with provide the flexibility to retune for deletes etc later on. Hope you enjoy your car!!
Wow, that pull! Just sent Kerma my stock file and waiting on the tuned file to come back from them. I can’t wait to see what my A3 TDI is like after the tuned file install.
You're going to love it. You also might find stock pendulum mount and the main engine/trans mounts aren't sufficient. Especially if your motor has been muscled around for a previous DPF replacement like mine.
@@BonusParts Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to look into that though this car has pretty much been babied since I bought it. I did also get the DSG tune but there's a 4-8 week delay on the dongle and computer that they send you to get that tune installed.
The extra torque highlights where volkswagen worked hard to minimize NVH from the diesel. A pendulum mount insert fixes the motor movement but it comes at a price of extra vibration and noise for sure.
I just bought a 2012 tdi 2.0 and notice some bad reviews on this year cars, I hope I didn’t get into a scandal the car seems to be pretty reliable with no problems at all, but anyways I’m wanting to get the best tune aswell. I’ve noticed the brand darkside (UK) and Malone tuning. I’m reaching out cause I’m curious what I should do as I’m nervous to go the wrong route and mess something up. I’m wanting to straight pipe so that means remove DPF, so I don’t have to worry about that. Also I’m not sure what stage I need to get I think it’s Stage one 1, but hell I don’t know. All I need is a tone that maybe can give me some horse power and clear the dpf stuff after doing the exhaust or if anything just get the tone that just clears the code from dpf
Frankly they are very reliable cars. Where they have issues is with the "fix" software. My recommendation to you would be look at either Malone or MRtuning for an emissions intact tune for the time being. It will give you more power and buy you time ensure all maintenance is complete. Then go ahead and delete it and enjoy the ride. So far I'm 27k miles into my Kerma tune and it's been nothing short of flawless.
@@BonusParts OK so all you’re saying is to make sure all the maintenance is done then I can delete the DPF, then I can get the chip you’re considering or tune?
I'd say your key would be to just do a fuel filter, oil change and an air filter. The basics. Inspect the fuel filter for any metallic flakes (signs of a high pressure pump failure) If all is well then I'd say you're good to delete at will. IF the car is running fine and there is no soot at the tailpipe you could save a few bucks by just tuning and keeping the DPF until it becomes a problem. If you use Malone or MRTuning they will upgrade you to a delete file very inexpensively, as you already would have their software. Power differences between a deleted and non deleted car are negligible on a stock turbocharger, so unless you like the smell of diesels I tend to advocate for retaining the emission equipment as long as it is working correctly and delete when it fails outside of warranty.
They claim 34hp/95tq on the website. I'd say it does that for sure. It didn't spin tire rolling into first, it sure does now, and if you catch second it chirp/spin a bit more. Great upgrade if you want to otherwise leave it alone and get rid of the lethargic software from VW.
You don't void the warranty as long as you reload the stock tune before visiting the VW dealer. Didn't Kerma tell you that? I have a 2013 with Kerma tune, been serviced twice, and just reloaded the (ugh) stock tune prior to visit.
I’ve been waiting over a year for a new dpf and egr from dealer in NJ. Been driving for check engine light for a year now. I’m pretty pissed. My warranty ends in September. Been wanting to tune since I got the car 2 years ago lol. Don’t know whether I should keep it. Has been running fine tho. I love the dynaudio system & adaptive led headlights! Was looking at Kerma & Malone with dsg tune and upgraded turbo. Darkside tuner in UK was pretty informative when I was first researching.
Just curious did you always run 507.00 low saps oil? My DPF went at 64k, since then I've only used the recommended spec. oil. Looking to get the Kerma tune this summer.
Yes, when you receive the tuner, you download the stock file to it from the car. Then you email it to Kerma, they adjust it and send it back. Pretty easy process.
Last three fills were respectively, 44mpg, 42mpg, 46mpg. Its always over 40mpg on a tank now, before I was working hard to do 37-38 average on a tank. Certainly improved !
My recommendation for a kerma tune would be this: IF you fear your DPF may be failing do NOT TUNE IT. I waited to tune until AFTER VW bought me another DPF/EGR filter under the dieselgate emissions warranty. The reasons are this: after tune you have the potential to be flagged "TD1" in the VW system, if so they will fight or decline repairs under the emissions warranty extension. Another critical item, IF they do a replacement tune it as soon as you're sure everything is good to go, that way the kerma flash can prolong your DPF life far beyond what the original lasted to. All in all you have to remember when you tune any engine (especially those with a turbo or supercharger) When you turn it up, if things are not quite right it will amplify them, and cause further issues. If your car is 1000% good to go, no soot in the tailpipe, no excessive passive dpf regens, and no sign of oil from a failing turbo - yea go for it.
Nope. Didn't want the sound or the stink. Kerma flashes retain all emissions components, in fact there's not one modification physically to the engine at all.
Not gonna lie you are my favorite person as of right now. This is one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had and I’m not even in the car your personality is great
I turned my 2015 Passat into a highway monster with the Kerma tune. Great MOGs and enough power to out accelerate many “quick” cars on the highway.
Is there a big difference between the kerma and apr tune?
