I think he was actually talking about the Marine officers that would have been in the chain of command of the Marines on the ships. If so, the ranks that he was using were correct.

If you have any interest in things like fictional weapons platforms or factions, The Templin Institute has some truly excellent summaries. A good start could be their video about the Warthog or perhaps Scorpion from Halo. If you want to find some 40K stuff and not spend more than an hour sitting, you can find videos about 40K there too. They have a video that's something like a half hour one about the Imperium of Man. They have some mistakes corrected in the comments, but honestly, the script and narration make up for mistakes.
