Stainforth Foss is where we used to go when I was a kid. I haven't been for years, but it's one of those places that I think about when things get rough.
Thank you so much for your inspiration.. we visited Janet’s Foss and Garsdale Skar on New Year’s Day because we had seen your post. On our way we saw you in your Yorkshire tea hat.. we would have thanked you personally but you were chatting away with another person. We said hello. We have been to Maltham Cove previously and missed these marvels. Thank you for being lovely and kind. 🙏🥰
This is fantastic-thanks so much for sharing. I make piano videos out and about in Yorkshire and whenever there’s water my son (11) is invariably in the swimming whilst I’m recording. He loves it! This will give us both some lovely ideas. 💜
I have recently been to Yorkshire Dales! So many people were swimming! The next time I go I will definitely check out these places! Thanks for the great video 😁🏞️

Hiya Stuart, I have to admit I am an amateur when it comes to Yorkshire dipping & I never thought I would become a passionate dipper until i watched this video! Your suggestion of Burnsall and the surrounding areas was spot on and quite frankly I can't wait to check out more of your recommendations! Keep on dipping. Big love X
Hello Stuart! I've been chatting with you on Dales Dippers and came across this lovely video! Thanks so much for your great intro to some brilliant spots! Can't wait to try some of these out! It's so nice to see an enthusiast welcoming new people to their passion and (not just wanting to keep their expert knowledge exclusive!) Hope to catch you at Janet's Foss some time and say hello! BTW, my new fave word... swoosh! :)
The Dales is my closest National Park - I haven't been outdoor swimming for long, but I was really hoping to get out this Spring and Summer for a few dips! Really great to have a resource of spots for when we can again. :)
Hi Stuart. I normally skip the talking bits of videos but you have such a nice gentle speaking voice I listened to every bit 😁 I'm from West Yorkshire and really want to get into wild swimming. Where do I start? What do I do? I'm a bit worried to take the plunge on my own 😄 visiting Malham in a couple of weeks. Katie
I would suggest hooking up with local outdoor/wild swimming groups to get support... they are all fantastic and helpful. The Outdoor Swimming Society has a list somewhere on its website of groups across the UK.... maybe join the OSS facebook group and ask for suggestions local to you...
Thanks for that Stuart, a newcomer to wild water swims so your identifying some spots to go is really good. This year will be a year for making up for missed time, so am looking forward to more swimming. Best wishes Mike, Co Durham
I swam a few of those amazing spots on the way to lake district over christmas, and the way back in the new year, wish I lived in the Lakes, or Dales at this time of not being able to get out!
Thankyou for sharing these places I live in Pately bridge so often dip in the river Nidd, grassington, appletreewick and a few dipping places up on the moor. Great videos so Thankyou, I post all sorts of wild swimming and other posts on my channel TravelAdventurer
Hi Stuart - I must have missed this lovely upload. As you and Ria will know - Jan and I adopted North Yorkshire as our Heart Home during the years we lived there. It was fabulous seeing this (for me) very nostalgic set of views even though I was never a wild swimmer (more of a pottering paddler). Also lovely to see you in your home environment rather than chewing chunks of ice. I kept expecting to see Ria pop her head round the door to ask if a cuppa was wanted. Thanks again. Love to you, Ria and Duncan.
Under normal flow conditions, all of these places are suitable for dipping.... obviously, as with all wild swims, any dipper assesses the water carefully at the time of their visit and acts accordingly and doesn't just leap in because some bloke on RUclips says its ok!
I thought the same thing the Bolton strid can look calm but that has a 100 percent fatality rate 🤷♂️ I’m a kayaker the thought of no life jacket frightened me
Love to meet up with like minded people ☺️ in South Yorkshire love a wild swim !! But like some company !!drop us a line on here !!.don't drive so hopefully some does !!.
I hate Yorkshire because the houses have kennels for gardens and the people think too highly of themselves and they're nothing but hill Billy country bumpkins but past the kennels for gardens that you can't even swing a can in, it has some marvelous views
really well put together started dipping myself went to hackfall river ure was really fun now trying to find new and local spots

Are there any swimming/cliff jumping spots along the whernside mountain path?

Stu - do you arrange any of the 'Dales Dippers' meet ups on the DD Facebook group?
Would you recommend approaching Redmire from the north or south bank?
Personally prefer the walk down from Redmire village, so South bank.
Are these waters safe to swim in? They don’t have any dangerous under currents etc?
