Two amazing anthems. The version of the Italian anthem they used was a classic during Schumi & Ferrari era and then that crowd singing Flower of Scotland. Goddamn
gotta love the announcer...."show your respect for the national anthem of our italian visitors"....scotland fans......silence. thats respect at the basic level
it's better than that. if you listen carefully in between the verses of the Italian anthem, you can hear the Scottish fans clapping along to the beat. It's an incredible moment of sportsmanship.
Aye, I was there. Incredible atmosphere. More remarkably, when we played Ukraine at home in the same campaign we heartily applauded their anthem as it was lovely. We don't particularly love our own anthem, so we'll appreciate any other country's. When we played away to France you actually had the whole stadium singing La Marseillaise as the Scotland fans were heartily singing along. We're a weird bunch of anthem afficionados. We'll boo God Save The Queen with all the air in our lungs though. Make no mistake about that.
Great, but painful, memories! The best thing about this from my p.o.v. is the two sides of the Old FIrm, united. This was in 2007 when OF games were incredibly competitive, with Gers reaching the UEFA cup final the year after, and Celtic getting to the 2nd round of the Champions League. We had some decent players! Both teams had good Scottish players, Celts: McManus, Caldwell, Brown, Hartley; Gers: Ferguson, McCulloch, Hutton, Weir. I always associate, and attribute, a lot of the unity in this team to Tommy Burns. McCoist and Smith loved Burns, and so did I, even as a bluenose. RIP Tommy. Alba gu brath!
That's why I rather watch a Scotland-game rather than an England-game. The scots have nothing to lose, if they go to the World Cup or Euro Cup, it's an tremendous effort. If not, well.. It's like it should be. England always rank high and is expected to qualify and also place high in the competition, but they always fail in the end. Where's the fun in that? I always root for the underdogs. And with this kind of support from fans... Wow. I'd give alot to go back in time and be at this game.
Every single Scottish player should sing the anthem just as every fans does. The likes of Scott Brown and others never sing it. Do they actually know the words to the anthem or not? I know if I was representing Scotland i'd be singing my heart out!
I am so fucking proud to be Scottish, it is bordering on obsession. We were the poorest country in Western Europe, plagued by famine and invasion for millennia yet gave the modern world everything. Alba gu brath.
Quite possibly the best atmosphere at a football game I’ve ever witnessed and I’ve been to a lot of games, been to see Liverpool at Anfield, which was special in its own right, but this night was just different, I’m sure it was a 5pm or 5:30pm kick off and the ground was buzzing, the the whole stadium was bouncing, it was electric, absolutely unbelievable, I’ll never ever forget that game….
The version of the Italian National Anthem is commonly called "The Schumacher Cut" because it's the version played in Formula 1, right after the German National Anthem for the Great Michael Schumacher!!! #forzaferrari
Still remember this day. The respect in the ground for each other was evident from the fans ( not sure why 😂😂 ) the Italy goal at the end was a disgrace, alan Hutton got pushed off the ball but italy got the the free kick 😠😠😂😂.
@NumberDne Who else remembers the Conservative MEP lobbying scandal of 1999, or the fact that we were requested to step in and help bail out the Euro that year? What about Neil Kinnock’s scandalous proposal to regulate, almost censor the press? As recent events require asking; would we actually have noticed a difference? That lobbying scandal didn’t die in 1999 - irrespective of promises to the contrary it had barely started and lobbying problems were still creating cries of scandal in 2010.
"An evening of destiny. 90 minutes to decide whether this group of Scotland players are looking back on a great achievement or whether they have achieved greatness" is a ridiculously underrated bit of commentary by the way. You don't get commentary that good these days
Underrated? It doesn't even make sense, it's just another example of braindead drivel lol. Think about it, where is the "or"? He's essentially saying "90 minutes to decide whether Scotland win (the great achievement) OR whether Scotland win (to achieve greatness)". Both options are the same for Christ's sake, that's not a decision!
@@seanwilson1977 No... the great achievement is how well they had already done before the final game against Italy in a qualification group that contained the top two teams in the world at that time with only two qualifications spots available. To be in with a shout of qualifying with one game to go was a huge achievement hence "a great achievement" and "achieved greatness" referenced the history they would have made if they had beaten Italy in this game and qualified knocking out one of the world's best two over the course of an entire qualification campaign. Wind your neck in and actually understand the facts before coming at me as though I'm a proper idiot.
@@stephendickson1217 Some facts: 1) Brazil and Argentina were the top two teams in the world at that time, so your “top two teams in the world at that time” statement is simply wrong. 2) Scotland were 4th seeds, they went into the final game with a chance of qualifying and didn’t, so finished third above the 3rd seeds who were the second lowest of all the 3rd seeded teams. If your definition of “a great achievement” is finishing one place higher than your seeding at the expense of the second weakest of the seeds above then I can see how you’d jizz your pants, you must be of a younger generation who are satisfied with unending mediocrity and failure if you consider that a great achievement. But when looked at in the light of actual objective facts it is no great achievement in the slightest and so, as I have said, the commentary is utter drivel and makes no sense. No one came at you like you’re an idiot, unless it was you doing the commentating lol. Learn your own facts and try having a discourse without the aggro in future. “Wind your neck in”, lol really?
@NumberDne Officially the 21st Century opened in 2001, it proved to be the year the pigeons really came home to roost for Dame Shirley Porter in a scandal to reach the upper echelons of the Conservative party by 2003. Dame Shirley was issued a £26 million bill the following year. That was arguably eclipsed by Sinn Fein being cleared to collect expenses from a Parliament they weren’t attending, prompting David Cameron in a more recent statement. “We’ve got to clean up the Westminster Parliament"
@NumberDne It appears as good a place as any to use as a starting point to shine a little light into the apparent midden that masquerades as a primary government in these islands. In 1997 we had the diversion of the Bernie Ecclestone drama, more cash allegedly changing hands and right (dis)honorable gentlemen appearing mired in the mix. Yet the voters were again denied a full enquiry. The call from the Speaker’s chair was an effective “move along now - nothing to see here”.
Yes i remember ronny i remember everything you called me when you were there and you told me ur darkest secret i only know that secret its safe with me
@NumberDne A new millennium dawned in 2000, in the murky corridors of power and in the gentlemans clubs of England’s capital nothing much changed. Y2K came, went, with it came scandals aplenty, one almost rivalling the Cambridge 4 as Britain was asked how it could continue to trust the Commission trade if a senior official (ranking fourth in the organizational tree of Peter Mandelson’s department) was accused of handing secrets to journalists posing as lobbyists working for Chinese businessmen?
@NumberDne True investigative journalism in and around the halls of power would be screaming all the facts about the ongoing scandal of Westminster and demanding reform, sadly true investigative journalism appears to have a vested interest in avoiding these issues. For the depth of Scandal at Westminster in our present era we need only go back to the waning days of the last Conservative government and begin working our way forwards.
to be honest tho... im ashamed of the scotland players constantly during the anthem.....if i was them i would screaming tht out at the top of y fucking vocal capacity...... half the time they just can't be arsed. fans do the anthem proud every time tho much love
@NumberDne It would be unfair and inappropriate to simply focus on the present administration, or the last. Patterns are nominally more informative. A greater timeframe would simply be too repetitive. Do we remember the Westminster housing scandal? That was also about protection of power, circa 1996 and followed on the earlier sex scandals of Major’s Conservatives.
