For photo walks
►Rode Wireless GO II With 2x Rode Lavalier amzn.to/3QV0k0l
And in the studio we use
►Rode VideoMic GO II amzn.to/3Skp837
For podcasting I recommend using a dynamic microphone as it will reject a lot of room sound and background noise. The most important part is to make sure you are as close as you can comfortably be. Using a pop filter can help reduce sibilance and plosives as well.
We just got a new dedicated audio recorder that is a much better option than using the camera's audio input - TASCAM 4-Channel Portable Audio Recorder - amzn.to/3FWPZxy

A model with good ideas is very valuable. They usually have pictures in their heads they'd like to bring to life, and it's never bad to hear their ideas. Listen to them. When you find you share a vision it's like magic.
happily my models knew that they had to look down or aside - these photos turned out very good and put a little variation in my photos.
Great tips! I’ve been working with models for the better part of a decade and all of these are absolutely things that I use every time. Helping someone feel comfortable and like they are doing a good job is KEY!! I often work with people that haven’t posed before and the difference between the beginning and end of the shoot is astounding. I love giving someone photos where they are like “I didn’t even know I could look like that!” It’s so much fun to collaborate with someone and have results you both are proud of. It’s crazy to me how often I see photos where the model looks uncomfortable and it’s obvious.
Keep on being awesome! love your videos!
Oh my god yes! We are so in the same page here I love it! Thank you for your kind words and thanks for watching lovely x
Gosh Lucy your modeling skillz are amazing. Just fyi I rarely take advice from anyone but your ideas are 💯
Wow 😯 thank you so much! I’m honoured to hear that!
That looks like a go-go ring from the '70's
As someone who is new to giving people direction this was fantastic thank you!
Agree with all of the above. It is always great to work with people that have their own opinion and some sort of understanding of what they really like, whether they are models or not. Those types of collaborations are usually the best and yield strong images as a result.
These are solid tips! Taking so many notes 👏🏼 thank you
Awesome video, great advice, fantastic sweater
Thank you so much! It’s my Paris Texas sweater!
Valuable info. I liked your impressions. A lot of good advice. Thank you.
Lucy, this was great. Fundamental to great imaging is finding out what the client wants and figuring out how to get it for them. You did a great job of listing some ways to do that. Portraiture is often about getting subjects to reveal themselves. That usually involves getting to know them as people and building trust, then eliciting reactions that respect that trust. Annie Leibovitz, the Rolling Stone Magazine celebrity portrait photographer, does/did this as well as anyone I know of. Her work is a master class in how to reveal personalities and is well worth studying. Most important in any photo session is verbal engagement with the person in front of the camera. If you care about the subject, AND THEY KNOW IT, they will open up and show you who they are. Asking lots of open-ended questions like, "Tell me about yourself. Tell me what you like to do. Tell me about what you like to wear..." Just get them talking and relaxed to the point of being human, and they will show you (and the camera) who they are. Keep it coming...
This is such great advice and something I should have mentioned! Glad you commented with this awesome tip! Chatting instantly relaxes people and you often get a smile or laugh out of them that is really organic too!
Great insight for those who have difficulty with this.
Another fantastic video providing numerous ideas and concepts in creating a better final product. You're killing it girl, this is really good stuff! Also super refreshing to hear you talk about your own fears and insecurities and how we all struggle with self doubt and fears of failure. 💙
Oh thank you so much lovely! Glad you liked hearing the insecurities as well I plan to touch on that a bit more on the channel in future. Thanks for watching
Great video and tips Lucy!! Thank you for this one!!!
Thank you so much for watching!
Some great portraits here! Good use of environmental elements and accessories.
Thank you my friend!
One of your best vids yet. Sooo much great info here.
Thank you Dave! Lux mentioned how much my presentation has come along and I think this sort of topic is something I feel very confident and passionate about so it felt easy to talk about! Glad you enjoyed - thank you 🙏🏻
This is fantastic- I'm very shy behind the camera, and I love the candid ways- but I've been wanting to work with models, or do pictures for friends etc. So this was great. Really, really appreciate it. :) Cheers
Gorgeous model, Lucy 😅✌️
Thank you!
You are right Lucy, I often get better photos when people aren't looking directly at the camera.
Also you can never go wrong with Paris Texas ❤
Yes I love the mystery when someone is looking away or the effortless cool look of a moment that might echo a 90’s kate moss moment haha that’s what I’m hoping to achieve anyway! Yes Paris Texas forever! Thank you for watching Alex xx
Great insights! Beautiful portraits!
Thank you so much lovely!
This video was super helpful!! Thank you for the tips!! 🤘
I’m so glad to hear it thank you 🙏🏻

You are doing a great job! Your videos are very inviting!
Thank you so much!
Wow, that’s a very thorough and in-depth video. Thanks for post this, Lucy. Let me go away and think long and hard about everything you said. 😊
I’m so you are very welcome! Thank you for watching
@8:35, that's one problem I don't think I'll have for a very long time: Showing of the technical capabilities of the photographer. 🙂
Love the new hair! Great video as always Lucy!
Thank you so much Tim! Glad you like the hair too 💇🏻♀️
omg yes! this is such a great video. as a model/photographer myself I definitely agree with these tips.✨
Glad you liked it!! You are great in front and behind lovely! Go you!
@@LucyLumen omg thank you Lucy. Go YOU as well. I hope photographers are taking notes from this vid✍🏾
Love your hair, Lucy! Really suits you😊 Love your piccies too😊 The advice is also good. You should do more portrait shooting, both in front and behind the camera.
Thank you Carl! I appreciate that. Yes we have more shoots planned so you will be seeing some bts more on the channel soon!
Your modeling is wonderfully, Lucy. I’m curious what percentage of the shots shown were shot by Lux or from your earlier model days?
Thanks lovely! Lots of the early ones that are shown are very old now but mostly throughout the video they were all shot by my brilliant man Lux!
VERY nice video. I am not trained to photograph models. Guess I am somewhat shy about asking people to model for me. Thank you for the wonderful video. Hi From Sandpoint, Idaho USA.
Thank you so much! Perhaps I can do a video on how to approach models for shoots next.
Good idea. That would be nice.

"Effortlessly cool" is very difficult for those of us for whom it takes a lot of effort to be cool 😂
those photos of you are so 🔥🔥🔥🔥 they look like taken from the past
Yes some of them are quite old now haha I’m getting on! Thanks for watching
@@LucyLumen more power!!! 💪💪💪

Can someone show this to Jared Polin?! Please...
I just looked him up now and recognise his logo!
I'm using a program called Portrait Pro with models because a lot of makeup brands have bad chimicals.
your videos are very nice. they would be even more beautiful if you occasionally moved your hands
😂😂😂
I can’t help it I’m Italian!
@@LucyLumen you are not Italian but you move like us Italians. even a little more 😂😂😂
