QUICK TIP: I only water my plants using this method about every two to three weeks depending on the season. I use no more than a quart of water. This keeps my plants from standing in water, it keeps the roots happy and provides just enough humidity for a healthy plant!
Hi there, is that orange situation called a drainage plate? I'm not able to find it at home depot or on line. Can't seem to figure out what it's called. Can you help..? Thanks, Nicole
@@nicolesnead3414 It's called an Ups-A-Daisy planter insert. Lowes and Home Depot carry them.
This is so helpful! I’ve been lugging the plants to my bathtub and I was thinking there has to be an easier way!
Glad it was helpful!
Wow this helped me a lot! 23 and just bought my first house and I am trying to bring life to it using plants. What an awesome idea.
Best of luck!
so informative - I wish I found this last month when I was repotting all my indoor plants!
Great video. Also, for plants requiring even higher humidity levels, drilling the orange saucer with more holes can increase the rate of evaporation, and therefore increasing the humidity levels.
Really great ideas. You have awesome positive energy and that ZZ is absolutely stunning.
Thank you so much!
Loved your video and your energy! Very useful, especially when you have plants that are too heavy to move.
Thanks so much! 😊
This is such a good video!!!
So fantastic + Super Informative!👍🏽
Thank you!
Thank you, Leslie. This has just saved my outdoor red banana plant from another year of southern California Santa Ana winds.
Awesome, glad I could help ☺️
Loved your video. Very informative & great ideas too. You are just darling 🥰 completely remind me of my favorite Aunt. Thanks for everything 🙏🏼
Thank you so much Jennifer!
Awesome plant
Hi. Placing your nursery pots inside of the decorative cover pots are a good idea. I was apprehensive about them sitting in water. Keeping the water at a quart each time u water is a great idea. It also prevents overwatering. You can always water less but more often during the summer months. Finding the balance is key.
Thank u for sharing.
This will be my go to method for larger pots as I repot them. For now my struggle is real. 😆 lol
You're so welcome!
I always thought it was better to repot them and get them out of the nursery pots. No?
For the second method, do you use it when repotting plants directly into the pot?
Your plants look amazing!
Thank you! 😊
Great idea! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! this is so simple and easy. I like how you hide the plastic trays inside (I hate how they look)
You are so welcome!
So easy! Thank you!
You're so welcome!
Thank you Ma'am! I have a Bird of Paradise that is getting very large and moving her to the bathtub to water will not be an option much longer. Your tips are great ideas!
Glad I could help. 😊 TFW!
Lub this video! 💓
Glad you enjoyed it!☺️
This will be the 3rd time I'm replanting my plants! lol But I need them to survive so off to home depot I go. Thanks.
How do I bottom water my large zz planted in a ceramic pot? Please help!
Thank you for sharing... I always wondering how to watering indoor plant without making a mess while they put pot cover to make it more beautiful...
My pleasure 😊
That is one gorgeous dieffenbachia.
She's a real beauty 😊. TFW!!!
thank you for this helpful video!! What do you call the hard plastic insert that you bought from Home Depot to put on top of the rocks? The plastic disk that appears to be an orange color with several drainage holes? Is there a name for that disk- do I find it in the gardening aisle? Thank you!
Hi Natalie, The clear plastic insert is called a plant saucer. I don't know what you call the orange insert, but you can't miss it at HD. Both can be found in the gardening section. TFW!
LiveItUpLeslie thank you! Yesterday we found all of the supplies you suggested & successfully reported our monstera! Thanks again!
Any tips on how to keep a Majesty Palm from being over/under watered? Ive tried for years and they just die
Majesty Palms can be so tricky. 😔 And since I don't know where you're located, I would just read up on their care and maintenance requirements. Then, I would err on the side of caution and just check the soil with my finger. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I’m wondering if the moist area will promote fungus gnat growth or fruit fly? We had that problem and we are trying to solve it. Thanks for thelis watering tip.
I've never had a mold, fungus or gnat/fruit fly problem in my home due to watering my plants this way.
Thank you for the video. Are you putting water in the soil or just in the larger pot with the marbles?
Hi A C, I'm putting water in the soil and then it filters down through the rocks which allows it to evaporate back up towards the plant. Hope this helps!
@@LiveItUpLeslie It does help. Thank you for responding.
hi leslie, does this attract mosquito and if so do you have to take it out to clean periodically? i have back problem and cant be taking the massive pot and plant out to clean and clear...
Hi! It doesn't attract mosquitos and I've never take it out the pot because it's HUGE now. I water it directly from my watering can. Look at the video again and you'll see how I set it up so that I don't have to move my plant. Thanks for watching!
Thank you 🌿
You are so welcome
Omg I should of done that pebbles rocks. I drilled two holes on the bottom of my pot & put a drainer on the bottom. But I feel like it is too heavy for drainage.. 🤨
What is the orange container you put on top of the rocks?
I don't know the actual name but it can be found in the garden section at HD near the containers. TFW!
Do i have to use the orange thing or can i just use rocks/pebbles???
You may do as you wish, but I use the orange divider to keep my pot off the rocks so it won't sit in water.
Very good info, I have been into ZZ plants lately and when you showed yours my heart dropped due to how gorgeous she is! it’s so beautiful and I just purchased one very similar and I just love it✨🪴
Would love to see a final picture of how you put the moss in!
Thank you for this video too!!
How do you spell the name of your plant?
Just got a 3ft palm and it came in a nursery pot thats inside a decorative pot. The decorative pot doesnt have any drainage holes or a plate underneath, and the nursery pot fits snug inside so it's not easy to get out to drain the water from the decorative pot. Those large ceramic pots u have are so pretty but SO expensive 😣.
Always check out the clearance section of your local nursery, lowes or home depot AND Homegoods. TFW!

That’s a Texas yard in the winter if I ever saw one.
Wouldn’t this increase chances of root rot?
Not at all.
I think doing this way doesn't since the soil and the plants are not IN the rocks and water. Just above them.
Don't you need to transplant those eventually. They look too big for the pots they are in.
Nope. My plant is super healthy and happy. TFW!
@@LiveItUpLeslie The consensus is not to keep the plant in the plastic container the plant came in. I've always heard you repot it immediately, as that plastic container is meant to be temporary. Thanks for the video and the great advice.
I was wondering about this as well, but her plants look so amazingly healthy! My next thought is that if your plant is needing a bigger pot, but you still want to use this method, just transplant into the same type of plastic nursery pot but BIGGER! I have so many of those I’ve kept from other outdoor plants I have transplanted into the ground. Now they can be reused ♻️
Thank you for all these wonderful ideas! You’re smart, and like others have said your energy is positively infectious. 💞
